Spain busts botnet masterminds

Spain has smashed one of the world's biggest networks of virus-infected computers, a data vacuum that stole credit cards and online banking credentials from as many as 12.7 million poisoned PCs.

The "botnet" of infected computers included PCs inside more than half of the Fortune 1,000 companies and more than 40 major banks, according to investigators.

This story goes on to say that the programmers responsible for this crime did not fit the typical profile, whatever that is. One should say, these people did not fit the expected profile, rather. Also, the Spanish government pointed out that these types of crimes are rarely solved, so that is unusual.

Further, the originators were "well-connected" with underground sources, the article said.
