never thought I'd call 1990's the good ol' days...lol
- still had Comaros and Firebirds
- Art Bell still hosted C2C am
- Loaf Bread was still a dollar a loaf
- Gas at 1.27 was considered expensive
- First Gulf War...which pushed gas to 1.27 a gallon
- Could still get 2 hotdogs all the way for 1.00
- Van Halen wasn't considered Classic Rock
- Guns and Roses and Black Crows were still strong
- Sling Blade and Forrest Gump were about to be released
- Budweiser still made a 36oz bottle beer
- There was still hope that Led Zepplin and the Beatles might reunite
- Dodge redesigned their pick-up with the Big Rig look
- T-Bone Steaks still came with the little tail of fat that crunched up when
cooked on the grill
- I wasn't married yet and had 3 girl friends..that all liked Skynyrd
- I didn't have to worry that when I woke up the next morning, it would be
in a Socialist nation with a Commie for President
- The USA still kicked butt...worldwide

I remember when the weather man on tv wrote the temps, on a map, in black magic marker - AND would stick the lit'l suns or clouds on the state wherever the clouds or sunshine would be for the day.

Back then, they could accurately give a 30 day forecast, too.


Sigh.



Then Doppler Radar came down the pipe - now it's all digital and hi tech - and they can't even get a three day forecast accurately.

And 'The Exorcist' was 'blood and gore' to us - lolololol

And didnt' the 90's bring Paxil, Zoloft, and all of the other "help me get by" drugs?

We had maybe 10 - 15 different kinds of cereal - you could smoke while you shopped for groceries - then put it out on the floor.

The early "mobile phones" looked like a suitcase - you opened it up and plugged it in your cig lighter - and the receiver was just like a regular rotary phone, complete with the spirally cord.
Now we can fit a cell phone in a shirt pocket.

LOL.......... egads I miss those days.

I hoped the human genome project would rank a bit higher than emo kids...

* Landing on Mars (if we truly did)
* Sending out that satelite to take pictures way out into space (can't think of it's name)
* Silent Railroad Crossings (Who would ever think that a train could go through a crossing guard without blowing it's horn!)
* Flight Simulators
* Train Simulators
* Cell phones used to not give you cancer.. now they do or do they?
* Mass quanities of recalled products (Meats, Cars, Cribs (who would make those unsafe!), Vegetables, Fruits)
* You could camp in a state park for a few dollars a night. Now it's almost $20 a night in some places!
* People dressed up to go places.. now they don't care what they look like so long they are comfortable.
* People stay indoors... you find empty parks these days
* You can easily make a multi-million dollar movie with a green tarp and a few actors.
* Movies today are not near as good as they were back in the 90's. We were always anticipating what they could do next in movie technology.
* The digitizing of Star Wars and the remakes.
* All children must have a car seat. In most states (US)
* Credit card interest rates ^
* Debit Cards
* Can't buy a movie on VHS anymore
* The Trade in Game Stores no longer take the original Nintendo as trade.
* Christmas seems to be less magical.
* The Tooth Fairy went up on the market value of a tooth! (this is good news.. everyone pull all your teeth out and place under your pillow for a bigger reward than when you were a kid!)
* Blockbuster "ONLINE" and NetFlix (movies mailed to your door BRILLIANT!!!)
* Contracts on most everything you own. IE: Two year cell phone contract, 2 year contract on land line phone services, 2 year contract on home security (seems everyone wants security in thier financial business these days)
* Less shopping malls and more strip malls
* Wind Turbines

I was born in 1986 and I think my generation is the last "Hybrid" generation for a lot of things.

If you grew up in the 90's you were a part of a generation who was the "last" for a lot of things... for instance.

Paper money being the main source of transactions,Pay telephones, a world without internet, trick or treating (probably depends on where you live), A world without e-mail, a world with true arcades, 2D video games, a classroom without a computer, "bunny ear" antennas, radio being the main source of music, and probably a lot more

Point being, the 90's was a huge social and technological shift for modern society and my generation will be the last to see a lot of how things were for a long time before the 90's

Think about telephones and how basically since its invention, went almost completely unchanged until the 90's, or TV, or radio.

And being born in the mid 80's to early 90's you will be the last to remember any of those things listed.

Its really marvelous.

I think it's comparable to the shift in technology from 1890 to 1910. Think of the breakthrough inventions around that time. What we can expect in the coming decades is anybody's guess, but I'm sure these will all be just as 'game changing'.
