Actually you brought in some interesting information. It is believed that Jupiter's gravity has screened out a lot of material preventing the Earth from being bombarded by incoming debris that would have wiped out life on Earth.

Here is a study in which the Jupiter as protector role is questioned. I'm sure it will take a long time to work this issue out. It's a complex situation.

Jupiter is getting hit more often than conventional wisdom would suggest, leading many researchers to call for a global network of telescopes to monitor Jupiter 24/7 and measure the impact rate.

So... we left off with Jupiter getting hit "more often than conventional wisdom would suggest". Takers?

It certainly is interesting. I find it quite interesting in view of the fact that the impacts have been mostly seen by amateur astronomers. It's great to see that the "average person" can contribute to knowledge of the world about us.
