You are more than welcome. If they took the warning down, it must have been awfully quick because CNN was just discussing it ON TV. I'm glad for those people.

Well I'm watching live upstream in Spanish from Chile itself, and they were already cleared by the NOAA...so there!

Nothing on the NOAA Tsunami warning site.

Must be local paranioa following a shock, rather than an actual warning.

I can only understand the language just enough to get the gist, but people are on high ground getting a good spot to watch. It's sorta comical if it weren't so devastating. Keep checking watches too...

your spanish is obviously better than mine- which is the equivalent of growing up in AC, NJ and taking Italian

still interesting to watch everyone hanging out watching the water. These poor people.

Everyone is extremely nervous, and understandably so. They have had constant BIG aftershocks through this, which had been subsiding in both frequency and magnitude. So when this hit, the very first report came from the NOAA, because the initial magnitude had the potential to cause a tsunami.

So erring on the side of caution, they initially issued a tsunami alert, which was quickly revoked once more information came in on the quake.

One thing people should understand, is that the closest station the USGS is working with down there is like 575 Km away from the action. This makes it extremely difficult to deduce information quickly, as it has to be triangulated and processed from among stations even farther away than that. So yeah, this is a very tough situation all the way around.

Hopefully in the future after this, Chile will consider some serious investing in modern seismology equipment, well distributed around their country.

Nothing at all on the UK Networks.

Praying all is well.

The aftershocks are very big and seem to be increasing!

So I would be very very twitchy if I was in Chile.

Kind Regards,

Elf

It was on sky news not long ago??

I just checked it now though and it's no longer being shown.

So hopfully there is no tsunami but big aftershock still.

I couldn't say exactly, but it seems there is a problem of some magnitude.

Meanwhile, breaking news....

'Huge waves kill two on Mediterranean cruise ship'

news.bbc.co.uk...

The waves near the French port of Marseilles were reported to be 8 m high.

I would like to post this as a new thread but I can't as I don't have enough posts yet, so if anybody else would like to volunteer please go ahead. Sounds pretty freaky to me.

Also reported on sky news:

news.sky.com... 003115566656?lpos=World_News_Carousel_Region_3&lid=ARTICLE_15566656_Cruise_Liner_Hit_By_26ft_High_Wave_Killing_Two_And_Injuring_Six_Passengers_Off_Coa st_Of_France

(apologies sky news link not working, perhaps because the URL is so long?)
