Atheists offer porn for bibles

www.kens5.com

Emotions ran high last week when an atheist group asked UTSA students to trade in their Bibles for pornographic magazines.

On Monday afternoon, the group set up a table on campus for their "Smut for Smut" trade offer. The group featured a sign at their table that read, "Trade in Holy Text 4 Porn."

I am finding this way too amusing. This is crazy. I personally would not put the Bible to the same category as porn, but really - I am still chuckling.

Is this really the message they want to send? How exactly is an intelligent person, religious or non-religious supposed to react? At least they made their message clear.

Wow, humorous and creative, but disgusting considering my addiction to porn. I know how damaging it can be to the soul. I am no bible thumper, but this just reeks of death...can't put it any other way.

This example is going to be used against atheism for a long time. It was a terrible idea and it's only going to further divide people on the subject. I guess that's all I have to say about it.

Sorry about the double post here. Computer was freezing up and apparently sent the message twice.

I'm an atheist.

I think a lot of pornography is wrong...

I also think a lot of religion is wrong.

Where does this lead me?

I'm Christian, and you know what? I'm not even going to touch this with a 1,000,000,000,000,000 foot pole.

I will say this though.

It seems to me that Atheism has become the worlds newest organized religion. I am so sick of the "look at me I don't believe in anything so I'm going to push my believing in nothing on everyone else and desecrate everything sacred that they hold just because I think it is crap" mentality. Why is it such a big deal to Atheists? You'd figure since they believe in nothing they wouldn't care so much about what others believe.. I mean why do you give a crap less? What is the point? Why give a flying fart in space what I believe?

They go out of the way to pick fights just for the sake of it!

Why won't these people just let us believe in God in peace? Is that so hard? Just let us believe whatever the [snip] we want to and we will do the same for you....

It seems like just a way to get attention..... What are these people? Toddlers?

Grow up already!

Obviously doing this for attention - and apparently it seems to be working.

Wonder how many motel/hotels in the area will come up short on bibles in the near future...

But, what if they tried this with the Koran..? I bet they would get beat down quickly...

Perhaps the sign should have read: "Oh come all ye faithful."

@ Damod. Perhaps we just don't believe in fairytales. Of all the are nutjobs knocking on my door and harrassing me at the airport hawking various brands of religion, none that I recall were atheists.

We are under the assumption it was actual athiests that designed this concept to begin with.
The best way to win over someone is to make the other side look horrible in comparison.

I am agnostic myself, I find the concept a bit dumb and clearly meant to bring out anger. Who is this movement targetted at?

Now, if it was bibles for biology...where you get some schoolbooks for turning in a bible...that would make sense and drive home a point (go to school, abandon mythology)...but ya...the porn thing, highly suspicious

I see your point, however:
-Atheists have been ostricized for centuries-they have every right to speak up
-Often times, atheists are challenged into a debate, and then labeled as someone who is trying to bash christianity. It seem many have a problem with an atheist defending his point of view at all.
-Atheists are forced to be bombarded with religious propaganda and reference everywhere they go-doesnt seem that out of line for them to speak their beliefs back.

Now, all that being said, I personally think most atheists are not even atheists. Most are agnostic, but dont realize that there is a difference between not being sure what you believe, and not believing anything at all.

I don't care what you do or don't believe, I would like the same courtesy. Is that too much to ask?

I was going to point out this very thing, but figured that it wasnt worth the berating that would follow...

That would be fine if it was just speaking beliefs. Bashing others is a totally different story.

BTW, I don't challenge people to religious debates. In fact most of my friends are atheists. That's cool they can think what they want, but 99% of the time I am the one that is challenged.

Those challenges come up actually when someone asks me, "what do you believe?" Then they start bickering with me because they don't agree when all they did was ask me to state my belief system. It's almost as if they asked the question just to put down the answer.

Most people would call that childish.

hey,if the bible was illustrated it would be xxx snuff porn.
not sure what type of porn it was but i bet it didn't have baby killing in it.

no such thing as 'porn addiction' unless psychological addictions count and they don't.

try claiming porn addiction in a room full of junkies and see how fast you get smacked down.
you are simply horny or weak minded, maybe both.

The Bible is actually a great historical document. Remember, it was one of the first printed works...in a time when only the Elite could read and write.

The atheists in this case are missing a pretty major extrapolation here, in my opinion.

Hmm I think both sides should shut the f*ck up. Why not live and let live? If it is not infringing on you why do you care? It comes down to ideology and the atheists are just as guilty in my eyes. But both of them will fight this battle for each others minds forever. It is pointless babble and will never solve anything.
