Universities across the globe mark Israeli Apartheid Week

www.haaretz.com

LONDON - A filmmaker, anthropologist and economic researcher are among those headlining events marking what pro-Palestinian organizers have declared as "Israeli Apartheid Week" - and all three speakers are Israeli.

University campuses in more than 40 cities around the world are marking the week with lectures, films, multimedia events, cultural performances and demonstrations.

The aim of this group which started in 2005 as stated on their website is

The aim of IAW is to contribute to this chorus of international opposition to Israeli apartheid and to bolster support for the BDS campaign in accordance with the demands outlined in the July 2005 Statement: full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, an end to the occupation and colonization of all Arab lands – including the Golan Heights, the Occupied West Bank with East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip – and dismantling the Wall, and the protection of Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in U.N. resolution 194.

Several well educated & influential Israeli's participated in Israeli Apartheid Week which starts today

Though many of the details about those events were not being promoted on the Apartheid Week Web site, it did list several events being offered by Israelis.

Among them is Shir Hever, an economic researcher at the Alternative Information Center in Jerusalem, who is scheduled to give a series of lectures at the University of Amsterdam entitled "Could the Economic Policies of Israel be Considered a Form of Apartheid?"

In addition, Israeli activist and filmmaker Shai Carmeli-Pollak is screening his 2006 documentary "Bil'in Habibti," about Israel Defense Forces violence, at Boston-area universities.

Jeff Halper, the Israel-based professor of anthropology who is co-founder and coordinator of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, was scheduled to speak on "Israeli Apartheid: The Case For BDS" at Glasgow University.

However many were not happy with Israeli taking part in the boycott movement as noted in the article

The participation of several Israelis in the anti-Zionist events is "atrocious," said David Katz, a member of Britain's Jewish Board of Deputies who grew up in South Africa and has long fought the comparison between that country's racial segregation and Israel's ethnic divisions.

Even events are being planned discreetly and not so discreetly by few "organisations" to counter the movement:

As part of efforts to counter the Apartheid Week events, one Jewish charity brought over Benjamin Pogrund, a South African immigrant to Israel who is the former deputy editor of the Johannesburg-based Rand Daily Mail, to speak to British university students about why Israel is not an apartheid state.

Here is the official trailer 2010 and their website - IAW

The movement is taking place in but not limited to these cities as per the website

Abu Dis * Atlanta * Berkeley * Beirut * Bethlehem * Birzeit * Boston * Caracas * Chicago * Copenhagen * Edmonton * Fredericton * Halifax * Hamilton * Hebron * Jenin * Jericho * Johannesburg * Kingston * London (UK) * Montréal * Nablus * New York City * Oakland * Ottawa * Oxford * Peterborough * Pisa * Qalqilya * Salfit * San Francisco * Toronto * Tulkarem * Vancouver * Waterloo

Thing to keep in mind is as Israel is growing wary of the BDS movement, will it employ different tactics using other govts. or intimidation/ coercion or liquidate these people ?
For eg. French Prime Minister Francois Fillon during his speech at the annual dinner of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF), 3 February 2010 reportedly said

"We must remain clear-sighted about the incredible ease with which the most heinous conflations come about and are expressed. I'm thinking, for example of the scandalous movements to boycott Kosher or Israeli products. I am astounded by the silence, let alone the connivance, of certain political leaders in the face of these revolting actions."

The target of this assault was BNC a movement similar to IAW. The BNC replied

For the record, the BNC and all our partners worldwide have never made any such call for boycotting kosher products. This is simply false. The boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign has consistently advocated a boycott of Israeli products due to Israel's persistent violation of international law and Palestinian rights. BDS is based on unambiguous respect for international law and universal human rights; as such, it is categorically opposed to all forms of racism and racial discrimination, including Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

Mr. Fillon's remarks came in the context of expressing commitment to fighting anti-Semitism, implying that the boycott against Israeli products may somehow be anti-Semitic. This baseless claim not only reflects ignorance of the BDS movement; it is clearly a politically-motivated attempt to stigmatize and smear the struggle to hold Israel accountable to international law for its ongoing occupation, apartheid and war crimes, especially in light of the Goldstone report adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council and, later, by an overwhelming majority at the General Assembly.

The fact that the BDS movement has experienced impressive growth in France and several other Western countries in the aftermath of Israel's massacre against the Palestinians in Gaza is causing Israel and its apologists in the West to panic and resort to intellectual terror, vilification, bullying and fabrication in their desperate attempts to hinder the movement's spread and increasing influence on international civil society. Mr. Fillon's remarks can only be understood in this context.

While Western governments have deepened their collusion with Israel's grave violations of international law, extending to it massive political, economic, diplomatic, academic and other forms of aid, world public opinion is steadily shifting against Israel's impunity and exceptionalism. The BDS movement is inspiring and empowering many around the world to contribute to the struggle to end Israel's colonization, occupation and apartheid; no fabrications or unfounded claims can thwart or deter this popular international quest for just peace.

*Mods this event is related to several Universities in US & UK that's why it was not posted in Middle East Section.

Well finally I think people might be getting the message. While I am completely against holocaust II, I do believe the Zionists have overstepped their bounds in a huge way and deserve a pimpslap to set them in their place.

Here now the Politicians have started working overtime against the movement and are sending veiled threats of arrests in Canada:

On February 25, a group of Ontario Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP) voted unanimously on a motion to “denounce” this year's Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW). Claiming to send a message of so-called “moral suasion” to all “fair-minded Ontarians,” Peter Shurman, the MPP who tabled the motion, argued that the mere application of the phrase 'Israeli apartheid' is “about as close to hate speech as one can get without being arrested.” In what seemed a veiled threat of possible arrests in the future of those accusing Israel with the crime of apartheid, Shurman moved on to state that he was “not certain” that its use “doesn't actually cross over that line.”

source: Ontario MPPs Ignore International Denounciations of Israeli Apartheid

What is curious to note that this same MPP Peter Shurman tried too interfere in a college campus election in 2009 when a more Pro Palestine candidate was voted in against a more pro- Israel candidate. The story can be found here:

In this latest fracas, the York Federation of Students is accusing two Conservative politicians – federal MP Peter Kent and provincial MPP Peter Shurman – of interfering with York's turbulent student politics.

Through a Freedom of Information request, the student federation obtained 50 pages of email exchanges in which assistants for the two politicians, who represent student-heavy ridings north of the campus, repeatedly question university executives about the results of a student council vote this spring.

That election saw a more left-wing, pro-labour, pro-Palestinian slate of candidates beat a more conservative, pro-Israeli roster.

Stop meddling, students tell Tories

Interesting the above one is a edited article...the original article is still available here in which it says:

Emails secured through a recent Freedom of Information request revealed that Conservative MP Peter Kent, MPP Peter Shurman, and senior York University administrators were interfering in this year's general elections of the York Federation of Students (YFS). During the elections, Robert Tiffin, York University's Vice-President Students, warned the students' union not to disqualify candidates who were caught violating the elections rules because the University and members of Parliament "were watching the election closely." MP Peter Kent was later found to have assigned a key staff member to intervene in the election on behalf of a team of candidates. Both politicians appeared to ask if York would throw out the results, despite no evidence of wrongdoing or any authority to do so.

Despite the objection from MPP's two Universities are hosting the IAW

Two Ottawa universities are going ahead next week with a controversial campaign that links Israel's treatment of Palestinians to the treatment of blacks in apartheid South Africa, despite facing objections by the province's MPPs.

Beginning March 1, both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa will host Israel Apartheid Week (IAW), an international event held annually in cities and campuses around the world. Other Canadian cities hosting IAW this year include Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal and Edmonton.

After reading about the manipulations of the Rothschilds over the last four hundred years or so, I'm gonna have to say that I agree with the OP. Judaism has been taken away from the Hebrews, and is being used as a blunt instrument in their name.
