Wow, that really sucks...20k for a one room cell?

I could rent some heavy equiptment and for 20k, have all but a fallout 3 style vault (minus materials to enforce the walls, make levels, etc...but still a impressive cavern network)

Thats interesting Chukka,How long did you have to spend in the bunkers?Days/weeks?

Must have got very boring very quickly.

Reminds of the days of Fallout Shelter signs everywhere when I was a kid. The access to ours was in the boiler room of my elementary school.

Here is a fun website with great pictures and virtual tours of shelters throughout the US. That whole era seems likes just a dream nowadays.

They were only meant to be manned in the lead up to, and during a Nuclear exchange. A three person crew would have been expected to have spent approximately three to four weeks down there in the event of a nuclear exchange.

We did man them during exercises, and the longest I spent down one was 24hrs. You don't really have time to get bored as you have lots to do.

5 minute fallout/radiation readings, reporting meteorological conditions, checking other monitors in the Post and popping up top from time to time to take other various readings and complete other tasks.

Interesting times!

Wow,only 3-4 weeks in the event of a nuclear exchange...not much time for the radiation to die down,but better than being above ground for the event I expect.

In those days I bet you were allowed to smoke in there too...Ah the good ol days of M.A.D and zero smoking regulations.

There is an identical ROC bunker in my local town in North Wales,but I was told that it had long since flooded unfortunatley(Although that was by the landowner,who may get asked to show people around alot,so not sure if it was true.)

The E Bay auction is flying along BTW,its up to £24 000 now,and still 5 days left...way out of my league sadly(although its too darned small to convert to house anyhow).

hi - 50 feet by 50 feet - i suspect is the size of the land parcel that it sits in

the actuall dimensions of the ROC post are , IIRC

17 feet by 7 feet by 7 feet - not including the toilete cubicle or entry shaft
