We're not displaying the ads any more. I've sent a rather mean letter to RightMedia's support and sales team. They're going to follow-up on Tuesday once everyone is back in their office. Until then, we're not displaying those banners. Only a few from Microsoft's LinkExchange (never had problems with those before, nor rumors of troubles) and the Google AdSense ads. Is it possible that you're seeing spyware trojans which are triggered by the ATS domain? [Edited on 31-5-2004 by SkepticOverlord]

I didnt even notice they werent there...cuz i blocked the images and the iFrame the day you put them up. Ima just put the IPs of those sites into the blacklist so they cant connect.

I was seeing some similar connection attempts at about the same time. Here's a sample to compare:

My system gets a clean bill of health from AdAware 6 and Spybot 1.2 (latest ref. files) and Symantec AV, so my guess was websites checking for tracking cookies. I was going to catch some of the traffic in a packet sniffer but I cannot get the event to repeat. That is a good thing, I guess! It did leave me curious.

Well... the problem appears to be with software you already have on your system, not ATS. Also, if you blocked the advertising (uh, that supports ATS), then even if the ads were still running, the issues you're seeing would not be from the ads as the title of your post implies. It seems as though there are existing spyware/adware trojans on your system that are being triggered by the ATS domain. [Edited on 31-5-2004 by SkepticOverlord]

You guys are going to have to give me more than this if you suspect something on ATS is causing this. Such as the specific URL on which it happens. In the past, we have had avatars of members causing odd problems like this.

I just got the little flurry of attempts only once while on the "recent posts" page. The ad on the bottom was for "www.rollercoaster.com" or something like that. I recall it because the ad suggested I should be on their site and not this one! I still have not been about to get it to happen again. Nothing bad happened, so I chalked it up to tracking cookies and disregarded. DoubleClick & servedby.advertising are, IMO, pretty harmless, a "cost of doing business" for using the Internet.

The only reason I posted was to show that dreamlandmafia wasn't imagining things.

I have peerguardian, is a good utility, if you run media player and is working in the background it may be the one atracting the tracking cookies, as long as the conection is rejected is ok, most of what you show in the post from peerguardian is the same as what I get on my computer, even when the adaware utility and my pestpatrol utility gives me a good clean bill of heath.

I meant intrusive by how they are all up in your face...blinking and distracting you from everything else. Other ways of funding? How bout a few PayPal donation links. Youv seem to have removed the old ones. A friend suggested maybe pay premium service...where if/when you put ads back the people that pay for the "premium" service wont have the ads there, and the regular ppl will have the normal ads.

It is possible to get a credit card "link" from people like Verisign and the like. It costs about 150 to set up and they take a percentage (2% or so) of what you get. It allows you to get donations from almost any credit card.

I think that when members goto discussing whats best for this site, in regards to what brings in needed funding, etc., that it should be left to the decretions and decisions of those who do run this site and know what is best for keeping this site free, functioning, and a great and growing place.

What transpired over the weekend is unfortunate, but as mentioned, has been recitified.
I would suggest that those who are still experiencing problems, download a couple of programs that in reality, they should have some type of anyhow. I experienced the same many here did, but have rectified it myself with just a little time to download.

I had Ad-aware 6.0 already and went on and downloaded Spy-sweeper and STOPzilla and have had NO problems since and all it costed me was a little inconvenience and time....and that happens in real life, so I dealt with it.

All, I'm trying to say is that this was an inconvenience and one that we will have to all deal with, in one way or another, but let admin deal with what brings in needed funding. The admin has done a outstanding job thus far so, as such, lets give them a break and let them deal with this as they see best for the ATS/BTS board community.

I dont know if this has anything to do with the ad's that were on this site but I have been getting constant attempts to my system from various different IP's all trying to connect to port 19948. This just started happening recently and no spyware, adware or virus program detects anything on my end. I also have/had real time protection on for all 3 (spyware/adware/virii) and nothing set off any alarms.

I found another problem with the ads. I just came up on one from bts and it said "Vote it's the best way to be heard" "Election day is nov 2nd"
