Sometime when I get a burger, I'll get two and give one away to a bum;

You are so narrow minded it is beyond belief.

HOMELESS does not equal BUM.

I know that. I've been both homeless and a bum. I know the difference!!

topic.............compassion to those less fortunate than yourself is one of the things that places humans above the beasts.

Please don't rake offense to this, because I don't want to offend you at a personal level, but that idea is about the most idiotic thing I've ever heard suggested on this website. Work camps? I can see that being a slippery slope toward creating a slave underclass.

let me set the record straight here.

When I say homeless I am referring to those who do not have jobs. Not a poor guy who simply lost is house and is out of luck but has steady employment.

The candidates for work camps would be determined by the three strikes rule.

1st strike: not having a Job
2nd Strike: being Homeless
3rd Strike: cant provide for themself

The work camp is a terrible name. Rebranding would be needed, Im sure a think tank could do a good job, but Ill give it a shot even though im not getting payed for it. They should be called Care centers.

Not only would care centers be a place where the homeless are given work duties they would also be a part of social repatriation everyday through the use of videos, presentations and lectures that give them the tools to survive in the world while teaching them how to live and more importantly how to think as an american. Stressing our roots as a free country, that though we are free you cant sit around and destroy the world around you that we have built just because the homeless hate Americans. 10 out of 12 homeless in philadelphia are war vets who express their disdain for the american way of way of life by tearing down what other brave soldiers have fought for and bled for and DIED FOR!

Now dont let it come off harsh, this is something that is like a rehab. homeless people are broken either in spirit or their confidence to name a few factors. If people care about them then help them by giving them the tools to help themselves through these "Care Centers". Since I care about others so Im shocked the rest of you feel better watching them rot in the streets!!!!

They have every right to be an american and live the american dream!

Hitler had similar ideas. Many of these people are buried in unmarked mass graves to this day. Homelessness is not a crime, joblessness is not a crime, and you're essentially advocating the creation of a slave class. You will find your ideas being shared only by tyrants. It is a good thing you don't have any power.

I completely agree with you. That is slavery. Might as well just auction them off to rich people. I'm sure no harm was meant by the idea but it is a pretty ridiculous one. As for the whole thread, the whole idea is ridiculous. How many people have the time to take these classes, and better yet who is going to take the time for them? Fining somebody $300 dollars for feeding the homeless is like fining a person helping an old lady with her groceries. What is wrong with this country?! Since when do we punish people for doing good deeds? I really hope this is a joke.

why cant they jsut put the homeless in work camps?
I read all those threads about how we have these camps. those would be perfect places for the homeless. They would get a roof over their head and could go out and clean the streets during the day or work in a mine. I mean at least they would be doing something.

I'm going to let south park explain what's wrong with this one.

I have been homeless three times in my life, and never because I was too lazy to work or because I was broken or drugged up or anything like that. I was homeless because there was no work.

The first time homeless, I moved a very long distance to find work shrimping. The second time I moved a long distance again, and the third time my brother and I invented a better giant bubblemaker and made enough for me to sell in the park to get enough to get off the streets. Nearly got busted for selling without a permit, though.

Just because someone's homeless doesn't mean they're a bum, a druggie, an alcholic, or worthless, especially in these times. I knew a lot of homeless people who were once prosperous middle class types wiped out in the S&L frauds and globalization.

I believe in reciprocity, so you can be as heartless as you like, but when it's your turn in the barrel expect no sympathy from me.
