Newspaper report describing UFOs witnessed by American pilots during Korean war over US Air Force base in Japan, 9th January 1953:

“U.S. Planes Chase Objects - ‘Flying Clusters’ Seen Over Japan Territory”

21 January 1953 (Rome News-Tribune, Georgia)

Colonel Donald J. M. Blakeslee, Commander of an escort fighter wing, extinguished all the lights on his aircraft and began to chase one of the UFOs, but the UFO increased its speed and vanished in thirty seconds.

Blakeslee made a second approach with all the lights on. This time the UFO disappeared in five seconds.

Another relevant article sourced by Realtvufos discussing Korean war UFO reports and an incident which occurred on the 9th January, 1953:

Flying Saucers Not Joke To Newsman Back From Korea”,

30 January 1953 (The Evening Citizen, Ottawa, Canada)

The Evening Citizen presents an interview with Bill Boss, a Canadian Press war correspondent:

Boss recounts the story of the 9 January 1953 UFO incident that occurred near a U.S. Air Force Base in Northern Honshu, Japan.

In addition to the 9 January 1953 incident – the U.S. Air Force revealed that a disk shaped UFO made a controlled, sweeping pass at an American Thunder jet on 29 March 1952 and that it was observed at close range by another pilot.

Professor Michael Swords describes UFO incident from the Korean War theatre in November of 1952 near Wonson.

While puzzling over whether there was anything anywhere to be seen to shoot at or bomb, a "white light" suddenly showed up 150 feet to the rear of the plane. This light simply stuck in there following them. It was shaped like a thin pear or a fat upright bowling ten-pin. Our reporter, as Captain/pilot, decided to make a 270-degree turn and "attack" the intruder. As he was doing so, the "Ten-pin" began to move away to the south [they had been both flying due east]. The captain decided not only to chase, but ordered his gunners to get ready to fire. These guns were not able to be controlled by the pilot's position, and could be operated only by the radio operator, who served as the gunner. In a pinch, the navigator/bombadier could also fire the guns.

The Ten-pin changed form into a narrow strip of redlight, and began to pull away [the pilot thought that in the glare of this red light he could just make out a discoid form surrounding the strip]. He ordered the gunner to fire. Nothing happened. He said that this was not mechanical malfunction, because when he looked at the gunner and the navigator, they "were blanked out in such a way that they could neither talk nor respond in any way". They stayed in this blank frozen state for about two minutes, during which time the UFO successfully outdistanced the possibility of successful firing of the guns. When they clicked back in to reality, the pilot got them to fire several rounds, but without apparent effect.

Very good thread OP!

There´s some investigation work!
One interesting aspect of the UFO phenomena is that they seem "to know" the capabilities of our aircraft and weapons systems pretty well.

No matter the time (World War 2 or jet age) those UFO´s can approach and get very near of our aircraft, scramble their instruments and weapons systems (like the Theeran case) and get away with evasive and astounding manoeuvres at an incredible speed.

Back in the early fifties the USAF did not had (at least known or in operational service) an aircraft capable of those reported accelerations and capable of reaching such a maximum speed.

Balloon with flair?
That is faster than a 600mph F94 Starrfire?

And to think there are still people on ATS who refuse to accept that the military is lying to them.

After reading J/Vallee's analysis and the NICAP excellent case documents , i would categorize them into the usual suspect lineup (fairie / BoL / Trickster / Paranormal). The UFO Attacking US Infantry sounds like the COLARES episode (UFO become aggresive and attack humans after being shot).

One thing missing from NICAP Case documents is that they never documented the high strangeness that almost (always) accompany UFO sightings. D/Keyhoe's personal belief is that these are extra terrestrial, pretty much a wild hypothesis since none of the NICAP case points to a nuts-n-bolt physical UFO existence and absolutely nothing that can be used for ET Hypothesis.

Thanks for the replies and in the vid below Richard Dolan describes some of the more bizarre military UFO cases involved in the Korean conflict.

UFOs certainly have been recorded during wartime, and the Korean War (1950-1953) had its share. Many of these were reported after the fact, but they are no less believable for that reason. The details match up and the stories are chilling, in some cases dangerous, and always astonishing.

There's also a spare link for the Haine's book here (in public domain).

Frank josephs books "the real war of the worlds" has many cases related to korea.follows a snippet of a hostile? encounter

"For most of World War II, Japanese encounters with foo fighters were nonviolent. That would change, however, on April 24, 1945, at the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Genzan Air Group Base in Wonsan, a port city located on the eastern side of the Korean peninsula, facing the Sea of Japan. Around 3:00 p.m., ground observers sounded their alarm at the approach of unidentifiable aircraft approaching at one thousand feet. A trio of Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero fighters was scrambled and soon after closed with two unmarked silver disks, each an estimated one hundred feet in diameter.

With their twin wing-mounted cannons, the Japanese pilots immediately commenced firing on the strange vehicles, one of which was repeatedly struck by 20-millimeter rounds but remained airborne, though it was apparently somewhat damaged. Its companion then shone a bright beam of light on the nearest Zero, which spun out of control into the sea. With this parting shot, the intruders rapidly ascended beyond the capabilities of their piston-driven pursuers and disappeared at high altitude"

Emphasis mine,im starting to take 99% of ufo books neither with a grain of salt nor with a boulder of salt, rather with a quarry of salt as most books have some false info which makes me wonder about the rest of the research in said books, this is not for the particular book im quoting, but a general statement about most ufo books.

That said its not the first hostile encounter between ufos and man.And it makes me wonder if i was in an abrams tank in the middle of zulu country, and those zulians throwed their javelins at me,would i shoot at them with my .50 calibre gun?Dont think so

It's obvious to me... that the bluish-white power phase of a foo fighter in our atmosphere --- is a hi-power phase --- especially for high speed (approx. 17,000 mph?) evasive maneuvers.

Much like first of two foo fighter sightings that I had one night in November of 1976, approximately 40 miles west of Washington D.C..

“and unusual separation into two objects

Opened as 2 contacts 5 to 12 miles apart."

We hear about this a lot, one light splitting into two. My guess is that this always comes down to two objects flying in close formation, so close that from far away they seem to be only one object. Until they separate and go their own way.
