In light of recent events I thought it was time for a tsunami thread.

There seem to be a lot of myths and misconceptions about these, sometimes devastating, acts of nature.
Some of the questions asked on the earthquake threads show the lack of understanding in general, so perhaps here we can have those answers and free up the EQ threads.

I'd like to get the ball rolling with a link to a site from Surf Life Saving Australia.

Tsunami Education and Awareness

Site includes how they work, the causes and some history, with pictures and some animations,
there is also a quiz at the end if you want to test your knowledge
