These are all designed to stroke the ego of the members so they contribute more content to the boards. Without user provided content there would be no ATS.

Just forget about the flags, star, points, etc....
Enjoy your time here on the site, contribute what you can, but don't worry about the stats. Your good posts will be rewarded with multiple replies and the opportunity to enter into meaningful discussions with other members.

I've even made a few friends here.

Now THAT is flagworthy! I like your take on things. I will probably never get any blue but I wouldn't contribute enough flagworthy material to warrant it so I'm OK with that. I do enjoy meaningful discussions and hearing people's opinions so I get what I need.

By the way, I wasn't 100% clear on the system either so thanks O.P.!

Yes, so here, have another flag!!!

Just to confirm, my blue bar has gone up a letter. It could be from my other threads but more likely than not it was this thread.

For every fifty flags you get one letter fills up.

The biggest real value is as you go up levels based on flags, you are subjected to less advertising on the site.

This might speed up your page loads a little and keep you from making impulse purchases from advertisers.

This can backfire though if the advertisers are in fact selling something you are looking for and haven't been able to find else where and didn't even know you had a chance to while on ATS because your flag level was so high.

So in reality flags are meant to destroy capitilism!

Flags are meant to destory our economy and slow consumer spending!

Flags are a conspiracy!

While the President, congress, the Federal Reserve, Wall Street and the International monetary fund search in vein for the solution on how to fix our shattered economy little do they know it is the flag system here on ATS that is responsible for the economic downturn!

ATS we don't just discuss the conspiracies we are the conspiracy!

So I think what you're trying to tell me is that I should continue making bad threads so that no one flags me. This way I'll be exposed to the ads of capitalism and help the economy recover. ATS is really a source of all this disinfo about the NWO, economy,etc., but really they're the ones behind it.

Not 3 times but sad nonetheless. Got a little out of hand from the outset.

We can at least get you over the hump. (not sure what the number is)
