its the high number, unfortunatly.

We should probably observe a moment of silence and then pray.

You don't know that and saying it will just scare the crapola out of people. Get the facts first then post a link.

Never actually felt scared like that before...

I think it is going to be ok. Nothing i see says 40 metres.

Will get the word out anyway, but am going to relax until i see reason for anything else.

Thank god for ATS in moments like these....

The BBC report on the earthquake has a quote from President Michelle Bachelet in which she states that a "wave of large proportion" has effected the Juan Fernandez island group, reaching halfway into one populated area.
The BBC carries no clarification on the size or speed of the wave, and concentrates on the immediate damage caused by the quake.
That said....

SURFS UP SUCKAAAAS !

I very much doubt there are waves that high... it was a biggie though... it's a good job it wasn't in a more populated area not that it makes it any easier for those effected!!

TSUNAMI IS ON ITS WAY TO EASTER ISLAND IS THE LATEST NEWS... TO HIT IN AROUND AN HOUR OR SO

Here is a meter to feet conversion chart from the internet.

www.metric-conversions.org...

For example, .45 meters is about one and a half feet. Prayers to people affected by this event.

Are you looking for tsunami information for the United Kingdom? This is in the Pacific, not the Atlantic.

Well to all those who say it's a hoax, MY SOURCE IS CNN. If you want to call hoax, call CNN and tell them.

Local police says 40 meter waves hit the Juan Fernandez island. Police helicopter on the way to confirm.

So far not confirmed.

Ok ok. You're right. That was bloody uncalled for , and I apologise. I am slightly confused as to how the BEEB hasnt been all over this news though. I mean normaly when the BBC find out theres a major incident they get as close as they can get to it without serious risk to thier person and record it . No real detail in thier report... wonder why not?

According to this source, the highest waves expected are about 8 feet high.
