No.

I'm thinking that it'd probably be a good idea to replace the batteries in my flashlight and the energy bars stashed in my earthquake go bag, though.

Earthquakes happen. they suck, but they're natural, like poisonous snakes and wildfires and the clap. Just because they're natural, doesn't mean they're good for you. And just because they're not good for you, doesn't mean that the gods are angry, or that the end of the world is nigh.

But hey, if you feel like rounding up virgins to sacrifice to the angry gods, don't let me stop you. Reasonable way to spend a weekend.

Are there really volcanoes erupting? That has be scary to see down there then. This could be a cause of ocean plate activity.

There are several volcanos listed as status:errupting on the map of South America and Central America... I dont know this map very well but I imagine this doesent mean what we think it does...

As I posted on page 2, here, at least one volcano began to erupt just after the first quake hit. So i wouldn't be surprised if others in the area are responding in kind.

Check the history of each volcano by name. Even things like Wikipedia will tell you how active it has/hasn't been in recent years. The one I mentioned above has apparently been dormant since 1937 but has just started up again today after the quake.

Not at all, a lot of users are referencing 2012 though.

Yeah, but I can't get myself into buying the whole 2012 thing. I mean we honestly dont know haha. But this is really tragic. I sure hope things will be alright. I have a friend that lives in Hawaii so I text him telling him to be safe. Just in case the Tsunami goes down that way.

It's probably due then. I'm don't surprised that a volcano would be erupting after that long period of time.

Surely they're mixing up their scaling - even 40 feet would be colossal. 40 meters is 131.233 feet high...

Yeah, exactly. But due to the nature of the rupture, the tsunami may be moving away from the coast, in which case it could be headed in a big way for the east coasts of everything like New Zealand, Australia, New Guinee and the Phillipines. Japan could even be at risk. If that is true then the epicenter occurred between the Juan Fernandez islands and the Chilean coast, and that is why I suspect this- again, if true.

Yeah it def could happen there. and for years they've been saying UT is due for one. So it could happen here as well. They keep predicting maybe a 7.0 here. but YOU never know!!!!

Well I am here on the east coast of Australia, right next to the ocean. I'm looking at it right now actually. So if we get any warnings of anything headed this way through the night you guys will be the first to know. I don't think I'll be able to sleep anyway. I get fairly messed up by large-scale things like this, it really hits home. It sounded funny when I was first told it, but the reference is solid, that I am to tragedy as Obi Wan was to Alderaan exploding.

looks like a 2.3 in greece... i wouldn't get too worried... greece is a hotbed for earthquakes, right at the meeting point of three major plates. small ones like this happen regularly. i lived there for two years and felt two very small ones. but if a large one struck it would be devastating due to the poor structure stability of most buildings.

very cool website thanks for linking!

Cali is going through hard times now. Everyone I know is on the verge. Couldn't imagine an 8.8 hitting this place. I went through the Northridge quake and that felt like the end of the world, and it was only a 6.9 or something.

8.8 is unimaginable.
