Yeah, this clown managed to get dubbed one of the worst five senators in Time Magazine and has had a hilarious train of downright offensive verbal gaffs... thank God he isn't running for re-election.

I don't know if it's something in the water here or all the bourbon but we really push it with our poorly elected officials, ranging from Jim "I Make Quips about Pancreatic Cancer" Bunning to Mitch "I'm in Bed with the Heritage Foundation and other Neo-Con groups' McConnell" to our local favorite here in Louisville, Mayor Jerry "I'm going to give huge monetary handouts to corporate chains while the money and effort could help a languishing local business scene, but who cares about that" Abramson.

Well I am certainly no fan of anyone elected here from Nevada in Congress or the Senate, so no offense to anyone in Kentucky. I hate Harry Reid and John Ensign and Rep. Dean Heller is an F*$king outright idiot, saying the unemployed are like HOBOS living in Railcars. Really Mr. HELLer, oh so jobs going over seas and double digit nationwide near DEPRESSION LEVEL unemployment dont play into this at all, it is all the unemployed peoples fault they can't find a job that does not seem to exist? What planet is this guy from because it is not from the one I live on. This country has gone down the tubes.

This is a fabulous move! Three cheers for this man!

This is just what is needed to get the sheep off their butts and start threatening tro lynch the lazy sheepdog.

The shutting down of EI and other programmes will focus public anger on the economy and hopefully focus public policy. It's time for Obama and others to face the music for what they have done.

most republicans and a lot of democrats are pro-business and would do anything to screw the real wealth creators - those who work all their lives just to pay the bills.

first outsourcing and offshoring. now this. next comes medicare and social security cutoff (not because it's bankrupt but because it was raided for wars and other programs). after all they are just wasteful govt spending just like unemployment is! and it's encouraging people to be lazy (unemployment) and hope for a longer life - which is much more expensive to the system than cremation!

remember corporations are now persons. good luck to our grandchildren who'll have to sign their lives off to corporations from age 3 if they want to keep living. and they'll be terminated (and cremated) at age 50 or whenever they would become costly. sick leave? want a raise? 40 hour work week? minimum wage?.... how about termination instead?

don't forget to vote out your incumbents unless their record shows they actually did something while they spent your tax money on trips with the mistresses...

I wouldn't , but most will.

I'm afraid if you want to survive in what is now a world economy that is exactly what you'll have to do. You cannot compete against third world nations without your workers being paid third world wages ... It's a rosey future that lies before us is it not!

Bunning is just another globalist and a lame duck one at that. He is not going to care one iota what any of the serfs think about him. That said, I agree that if the majority wanted to get this extension passed, it would be easy to cut 10 billion from some other worthless program(s). I wonder if any of the other elitists in congress suggested cutting 10 billion from the banksters? Perhaps recalling 10,000 or so Backwater mercenaries (at a $100K apiece) from the fake wars in Iraq or Afganistan? Or now the CIA boondoggle in pakistan?

Perhaps just dispatch Ben "Helicopter" Bernanke to print up another 10 billion? Hell, that is probably the "floor sweepings" from around his super charged "Hemi" of a printing press.
Oh, right. He just had this amazing epiphany that he "wasn't going to monetize America's debt anymore." What a great idea. Of course, the rat-bastard parasite knows all too well that he has to keep the "old girl" alive if he and his exsanguinating bankster criminal buddies are going to continue their shakedown of "Old Glory."

In any case, it is too bad that people were not this enthusiastic in their complaining when these diabolical globalists were laying the foundations for all of this eco-social mayham. Were were you people when they were shoving SHAFTA down our throats? GATT? PNTR for RED CHINA? Eliminating the Glass-Steegal protections? WTO? Acquiescing while 2 million foreigner aliens were invading our country year after year?

What we are witnessing now is the culmination of a two decades-long period of FAT APATHETIC SHEEP wallowing in their own delusions of prosperity because that is what the air head on television told you to do. This is what we get for abdicating civic responsibility to NWO globalists. Enjoy your "Mad Max" dystopia because it only gets worse from here.

And just to stave off any personal attacts on me of hyprocrisy, etc., yes, i am unemployed. Yes, I think it sucks. No, I have NOT set foot inside a CHINESE WALMART or equivilent since 1993. I buy locally from small proprietors and pay more but feel better. I DO NOT buy anything from China, India, Mexico, et al. even now while I squeak-out a marginal living from side work and unemployment. If I cannot afford it, I don't buy it! So right, I am not "SAVING MORE, LIVING BETTER" like their silly slogan says to do.

And NO, this depression is not for MY lack of participation! For more than 15 yrs I have called, wrote (yes, that's right, actually put pen to paper-we used to use these crazy things called stamps and envelopes), emailed, screamed at, and visited every worthless politician and bureaucrat to rail against what I have long known to be a downward slide into 2nd-3rd world serfdom and servitude. Sheeple wanted "diversity," "multi-culturalism," "political correctness" this is what you got! Immigration, free trade, social "justice??" You are now "enjoying" the "benefits" of all of that nonsense.

Finally, while I feel terrible for our once great nation, I cannot help to feel nothing but anger and contempt for the retarded herd animals who have got us to this point. During the coming days of abject squalor and unmitigated hardships, I can only hope that the masses of this country take time out and appreciate the results of their political/social leanings of days gone by.

This is partially true, the problem is that there are no jobs.

Check that, there are no jobs that would make someone a profit.

Currently, our economic system and capitalism is running into modern technology and automation. Capitalism is running out of gas and will be broke down like socialism and communism.

The reason why manufacturing left the U.S. isn't just because of cheap Chinese workers but because of automated factories and robots. Production in the U.S. is actually up from decades ago. The difference is that workers aren't needed as much.

Machines, robots, and computers don't need wages, benefits, pensions, and can't sue. They don't get uppity and only need maintenance. This trend will happen in China and other cheap worker places.

We are in the first few decades of an age where people are starting to become useless and even burdensome to our current economic system.

That is why there are billions of dollars on computer screens or in the pockets of a select few. Institutional investors (who have all the money) will only invest if they see a profit. Hiring is close to the point of not being profitable, hence the pooling of money.

Money can't just be handed out for non-profitable work or else the system will collapse as we are seeing with massive government spending.

The reasons why there are some that oppose unemployment benefits is because it feels like free money to lazies. The problem is that our economic design can't support jobs because most jobs that were available in the past are now unprofitable. No one save for the government will hire someone just to support them, but even the government can do this only in a limited way before inflating and collapsing the system.

There is lots of work to be done but none of that work makes anyone any money. Our economic system is screwed, outdated, and worst of all, there are no existing replacements.

On a personal level I am unsure about were I stand on unemployment benefits. I was self employed for years and now there is no money in what I do. I don't get government checks like all the "normal" unemployed do. Luckily my wife is a nurse (and more luckily I supported her through school so I am not viewed as lazy) so I can get by right now. On the flip side people do have to eat and this country is RICH in resources and there is no excuse for anyone to starve.

"I think the worst idea is to piss off the unemployed. They have nothing else to do, so why not start a revolution? There are about 30,000,000 unemployed in America(this is including the actual unemployment rate)."

Hmm so the number of officially umemployed people in the US is about the same as the population of Canada. So in reality you have more unemployed people then in the US then we have in our whole country.

I agree with this. I think the number one news story that is not being printed is why the so-called stimulus money was NOT used to pay temporary unemployment benefits to those who have lost their job due to the economy. I would gladly have my tax dollars go to those who need some help until they can find another job. Instead, the money went to people and places that should have lost their job. That is a travesty.

Im not even shocked anymore David. DC has gone off the rails and its just mind numbing to me. So what about Sen. Bunning? Well to start his a big supporter of the continued increase on our $500 billion military industrial complex. Supported the Iraq war, Israel... yep this guy is a piece of work, but you know what? His the tip of the iceberg. The other representitives, senators who opposed this getting through, the voters who kept people like Bunnings in their seat for the last decade, they are the rest of the issue at hand here.

There are 1.4 million americans out there. Over the last 10 years we increased our military spending by $1 trillion on top of the $550 billion we spend annually. We send $3 billion worth of aid to Israel annually. But for americans in desperate times, the vast majority who would work if they were given the chance again this guy doesnt give a damn. That aid itself to Israel would give each of those 1.4 million folks over $2,100 each. Thats enough to get fuel so you can drive to job interviews, to drive looking for work. That money could go towards assisting in good work clothes, feeding your kids during these hard times. Thats enough money to keep you afloat for atleast two weeks.

I was reading another article on this and this comment caught my eye:

To Bunning I say this…I am a single female 56 years old. I have worked consistently since I was 15 years old. That is 41 years. This is my first time on unemployment. The company I worked for went out of business. I have applied everywhere. Even Burger King turned me down because they told me I was over qualified and she felt I would leave at the first good job offer. Without unemployment I will loose my home and car and be homeless. I have lowered my pay expectations to applying at Burger King, and McDonalds…any job. I know your world is safe but we are sending billions of dollars to other countrys when I have faithfully paid my taxes for 41 years. And now my country…because of you has turned on me. Shame on you Bunning.

thehill.com...

For all I know this person could be lying, but nobody can tell me here such a story doesnt exist among those 1.4 million folks.

People say Bunning does not have a choice, that the goverment is spending too much already. Well heres a solution, cut the military budget in half, end our aid to Israel.

I believe it is a stall tactic just like last November. I have been following it closely because I have been on for a while now... I am suprised they have even allowed as many as we have gotten so far I really can not complain.

Well, I was reading about this bill early this week. This bill has added pork in it. This biggest portion is extra highway funds for Illinois and California; It very large amount . They are arguing that those funds could be better spent on benefits . Hence’ it’s a job bill not a transportation highway bill. This is what has many representatives very upset. Being that this was all covered in the first stimulus package. This bill has way too much pork . Now there are quite few representatives do not agree on this on both side of the isle on this bill. Just remember that this bill has the Whitehouse all over it. It is to be 15 billion, but some democrats want it back to the barney frank amount of 85 billion. That is also another reason some are rejecting it.

Good for Senator Bunning.

Its about time to force Obama and the democrats to come up with a real job bill to put EVERYONE back to work instead of just there union buddies.

If things kept going as they were and the democrats added cap and trade and other job killing laws it would take years before any recovery to even begin to make new jobs.

As it is we may have to wait till the next election and vote the bums out and put in new people that WILL create new jobs for everyone that wants to work.

For turning his back on 1.4 million americans under circumstances beyond their control? Good on him for supporting military spending hikes? Billions of aid to Israel? Yet refusing to support the american tax payer? You need to review what you believe my friend.

Its about time to force Obama and the democrats

Because at the end of the day this is about partisanship and showing those "Dems" right? Who cares about the real issues. It didnt matter whether this country was heading to the toilet! One point for the Republicans!

to come up with a real job bill to put EVERYONE back to work

And hows that? But cutting taxes for the rich? Because that seems to be the only solution coming out of the mouths of Republicans.

the democrats.

It is well evident it isnt about the deep problem this nation is facing. Its about your political ego and it is down right pathetic.

Keep on laughing. People like you are quick to change your tune once you find yourself in the same situation. Its all partisan blinders now.

Things are looking like a conspiracy, first Senior law enforcement officials quit in droves then Wall St finance types write articles about buying remote properties and fortifying. Now your congress may as well be standing on a powder keg holding a lit match.
Who will make money from the chaos that will erupt if one point something million people can’t feed themselves. ( and given it is America half them are probably armed )

Any chance this could be planed or are politicians just plain stupid or both.

Hope I’m wrong and wish you all well

I guess what really irks me about this guy is the fact that he has to cuss and say tough &*#&!!! Wow. What kind of adult that is in a political status talks like that, and talks like that TO us?!?!

It's time for us to start breaking bad.

It's about time unemployment extensions were stopped! In many cases people laid off at the beginning of the depression are still on the same claim .. why even try and get a job if the State sends you money?

Good job mr. Bunnings!

Planned, oh ya. The plan is unemployment folks. Chaos and misery and control and dependency on the govt.
And complete transformation of the country.
What they couldn't gain suport for otherwise.
Never let an opportunity go to waste.
The President doesn't care about unemployment. His priority is control. First health care. Next cap and trade that will put more millions out of work. After this comes
IMMIGRATION REFORM, which means amnesty for 20 million illegals.
Down go the wages.
