MLK knew FULL WELL that he might be killed for saying those words, but said them anyway, and the fact that he died to do so, should NOT negate his words, but only add more urgency to them.

Your logic is really screwed up. I mean, by that logic, no one should listen to anything Christ said either, because he was killed for it....

I'm not black, but I recognize hope for racial harmony. I'm not Christian, but I recognize love and compassion.

From my viewpoint and the culture in which I was raised. A man stands his ground win or loose. There is no shame in defeat only in cowardice. I have no guilt for my views or upbringing. Where did that idea come from? I am sorry you have no respect for me. A wise man learns to respect his enemies so that he will not be conquered by them.

I have seen many people of color[an obnoxious term as I am not included in that group] that stood their ground. Rosa Parks is to be envied as well as the good Dr. King. They did not lick the hand that feed them and beg for more. Many of your people are proud warriors, alas they have been brought down by those that have no courage to stand on their own feet.

Why do so many of your culture look down on those that have become successful? My people are learning to use there laws against the very government that set us aside. We have learned to cater to to greed of the populace by running casinos on "tribal" land.

The native culture has learned to pick itself up from a defeat and battle again. We have learned to adapt to the ways of another world without loosing our heritage. Our culture has garnered the respect of others through our values. We have, through hard work, start to again prosper on our own. We do not dwell on past failure, we look to new opportunities to increase our own.

Why does a culture cry foul when it makes no effort on its' own to rise up and be strong. Without a doubt your people were given a poor start. But they were also given a great opportunity that has been squandered. In all your bitterness to the white man. You must also remember that a white man fought his own brother to free you. A white man gave you the right to vote, to own property, to receive a good education, to be treated fairly and equally. What have you given back to the white man that has given you so much opportunity?

To truly defeat your enemy you must first become his closest friend. This is a very profound thought that has many twists. I suggest you ponder them.

still respectfully

I do believe in MLKs words. I do desire that we live in a society where individuals are not judged by their skin color but rather by their entire person.

We went to great lengths to raise our children to believe that you don't judge a person by their skin color but rather by the things that they do.

However, I continue to see things like this that are just plain pandering.

No, this is a double standard, plain and simple. Some blacks don't want the unfairly advantaged whites playing in their sentimental sandbox of heritage that they could barely claim by blood relation to begin with. You might as well advocate a "feel good" competition for every race, each by stereotype!

In my opinion, if anyone should be upset by the results it should be the girls from Indiana for being handed a prize only because the color of their skin.
That's where the real outrage should be!

Now THAT is a well thought out, intelligent answer! We need more of these types of responses!

What defines our color? Is it the current shade of our skin? Or the combined shade of skin of all our ancestors? How far back do we have to go in our ancestry to find our true color? If your great-great-great grandfather was black, and the family tree after him to you was all white, what color would you be? If your great-great-great grandfather was white and the family tree after him to you was all black, what color would you be? If somewhere in between a grandmother or grandfather were native american or asian or latino or pacific islander, what color would you be?

If you play basketball, what color do you need to be? If you like bluegrass music, what color do you need to be? If you swim, paint, write, hike, rap, sing, act, politic, cook, build, teach, navigate, enlist, protect/defend, vote, volunteer, donate, compete, heal, etc... what color do you need to be?

What color do you need to be to love? To hate?

Okay for the second time I will post it. You know a lot about STEP. By saying that white people should have no part in it totally negates your knowing of it because you said you where white. Now. Are you ready? Why do you know so much about it if you believe whites should not take part in it?

That is all I asked. You can say for knowledge, but then why have knowledge of something you feel so strongly you should not participate in?

It makes no sense, thereby the trolling for a longer thread comes into effect.

Sure seems silly to even try and define any of the above. You are who YOU decide you are. Color doesn't define a dang thing.

Yes. I agree. Very powerful. If it is a contest on true injustices it would be the native americans hands down. But the respect and pride that they would not succumb to slavery under any circumstances says it all. A very valiant people. And the way they lived with nature would truly be a paradise in which to live.

We need to show coca cola that we will not stand for this.

If you buy coca cola products you are supporting racism.
