Senate takes up jobs bill, page

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Senate voted Monday to push forward a $15 billion jobs creation bill that would give businesses a tax break for hiring the unemployed.

Five Republicans -- including newly elected Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass. -- reached across the aisle to approve the procedural measure, which passed by a 62-30 vote. One Democrat did not support it. A final vote on the bill should take place in a few days.

Well looks as if Mr. Brown voted to get this moving along with 4 other Republicans.

I can hear it now. This will doom the country to a socialist cabal, this will lead America to utter failure and hopelessness beyond anything comparable to Armageddon, our freedoms will be destroyed and we will all be sold as slaves to China, yada yada yada.

Personally I think it's a good step in the right direction, giving businesses tax breaks for hiring the unemployed, and helping people get jobs. It's also a nice little campaign year bill that both sides can agree to thus looking like they are in the middle instead of sticking to the extreme sides of their political polarity.

See, now if it passes, the GOP can say they weren't completely obstructionists, and the Democrats can say they were willing to work across the aisle with Republicans on a bill.

But the government really can't create long term jobs. It just doesn't work that way. They could give everyone unemployed a job working road crews, but frankly the tax burden for that would be much higher than if businesses made jobs on their own.

The thing is, businesses are the key to recovery not the government. Businesses have to see this as an investment in the future of the economy. Yes they may hire one or two people and that would be difficult in the short term, but if a lot of businesses did this, over the long term those employees who are getting a paycheck would spend money in other businesses and thus recovery for the entire economy.

Gee, and some people here on ATS said the GOP would never vote on any legislation created by Democrats. And yet 5 GOP Senators voted "Aye" on this measure.

Well, Wuk, that will last about three days, as fast as Congress wastes money.

Oh, sorry, I mean spends money, or is it creates money?

The way I see it Congress and Bush should have passed a Stimulus Package, that assisted the American public, the working class citizens, first.

What I mean to say is by their wasting money by shoring up Government, they guaranteed that we as citizens will not survive, financially speaking.

Yes, I realize Government employees are paid employees too, but it galls me that this is the way that Government thinks of things, of itself first.

I do understand the complexity of managing a country, trust me.

And I fully comprehend that as a Government they have to ensure order.

But, if it were not for half of the crap that Government does, when it manipulates our system, through many different avenues, the citizens would not need to have the constant dynamic of control, which to some seems tyranny.

I am not saying that it is tyranny, necessarily, although I can see it sometimes, what I am instead saying is the levels of corruption, and constant cover-ups leads to a lack of trust in Government, by the citizens of America.

My personal opinion is when J.F.K. was killed, and covered-up, America lost faith, in the protection of our country via Goverment, because this is one of those events where our citizens were left standing in the dark shadow of conspiracy.

And it is the belief of many that this is where the Shadow Government first reared its ugly, corrupt, and megalomaniacal head.

#1. Obviously creates jobs.

#2. Funding these programs helps keep existing jobs and funds new ones.

#3. Buying equipment starts the ball rolling on the economy, businesses who buy equipment are helping other companies keep the doors open and hopefully will also keeps jobs.

#4. Funding capital construction obviously helps create short term jobs. (construction projects are short term things that only last a few years, but a few years of a paycheck, is better than a few years of sitting on unemployment.)
