No Medicaid does suck, but I guess we are stuck with it because no politician in ther right mind can go against an entitlement and get elected. Once you hand the sorriest of society free stuff they never want to give it back.

I actually love this statement here. Sunchine was defending the idea that Sarah Palin's grandson was on socialized medicine and favors it, sees nothing wrong with it. As a matter of fact, the same thing is going on with Palin's husband who's tribe is eligible for the same benefits. So in essence, Sunchine is a Palin supporter.

So, Sunchine continues his effort by downgrading socialized medicine (The very thing that Palin is against) in the process by saying, "Once you hand the sorriest of society free stuff, they never want to give it back."

Wait...back up. Did anyone catch that??? Who are the people that Sunchine is describing or referring to as the sorriest??? I'll answer that for you...It would have to be Sarah Palin's Grandson, and her Husband because they are the one's who are on "Socialized Healthcare." He literally just called the Palin's the "sorriest of society."

Well Sunchine...that's where you and I are in total agreement. Ouch.

Does anyone else see the irony in that???

that is incorrect and not quite right. your logic is flawed due to missing some elements of truth in your assumptive extrapolation:

it isn't socialized medicine. it is a program paid for by money's owed to the tribe, each and every member, in reparations for what was taken for them. it was set up as a "trust" so that tribemembers would be able to gain maximum benefit out of WHAT WAS OWED TO THEM.

It isn't socialized anything. It is what was owed to them, fair and square. It isn't a handout, it is damages levied for theft of property.

you cannot keep blurring the line on that fact.

While I agree with most of your post ( Native issues), it is still socialized medicine. People too easily mix up the political ideology of socialism with the idea of socialized.

Socialized medicine Merriam-Webster

Main Entry: socialized medicine
Function: noun
Date: 1937
: medical and hospital services for the members of a class or population administered by an organized group (as a state agency) and paid for from funds obtained usually by assessments, philanthropy, or taxation

Also, IHS is not a funded by a "trust" , it receives an annual budget( huge difference....). It is directly funded and run by the HHS of the U.S. Federal Government.

HHS.gov

Indian Health Services Overview:

The Indian Health Service (IHS) makes comprehensive health care services available to nearly 2 million American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) who are members of 562 federally recognized Tribes. Direct health care services are administered through a nation-wide system of 12 Area offices and 161 IHS and tribally managed service units. Overall, over 50% of the IHS budget authority appropriation is administered by Tribes, primarily through Self-Determination contracts or Self-Governance compacts.

By pure definition, it is a socialized medicine. Any argument about Natives, land issues, reparations is irrelevant and a separate topic.

BTW, Everyone one of you, are someway involved, with some form of group socialism. Whether you can identify it or not. It's not just a political ideology.

Very well. YOu can have a win in a semantic debate. Just know that what you are calling "socialized medicine" is not what is being referred to by those who criticize such things.

That's the frustrating point. Socialized groups/organizations doesn't = handouts to lazy people. Which, those mostly of the far right, claim it does. Socialism is basically a group of people banding together for their common good in some form or another. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Federal Government. Everyone of us is currently enjoying some form of socialism in our lives. It's human nature. The old..."a group is stronger than the individual".

I have no argument there.

If the government could prove themselves capable of executing any program effectively and efficiently, I would consider things like socialized medicine.

But they don't. People are crooks by nature, and cannot be trusted. Therefore, if you want my vote, i want control and choice. I am not willing to let anyone decide on my behalf unless i am not given a choice in the matter.

Much agreed. It makes you wonder how someone can think with such a shallow mind.
