The Federal Government will invest nearly $70 million in biometric checks on visa applicants to combat the threat of terrorism to Australia.
Among the measures to be introduced, overseas visitors from 10 countries will have to apply for a visa in person at special Australian missions, rather than apply electronically. Part of the visa application will involve fingerprinting and facial image scans to be checked against information on known terrorists, criminals or persons of interest.
