That may be the single most idiotic thing I have ever read. To quote a movie:

"We are all now dumber for having heard that. I award you no points, and my god have mercy on your soul."

Hi, nice thread. I've done a lot of thinking about this kind of stuff.

You can take it much further than that.

You could say that out entire physical reality is based on our perception, and one could say we even materialize physical reality out of a wave of potential, based on our expectations and experiences.

There's been a lot of discussion here on ATS about Quantum Physics and it's implications on our understanding of reality.

For instance the Double Slit experiment, or more important the Quantum Eraser exp., wich shows that human consciousness has an influence on physical reality.

I know many don't agree with that, but it's an inescapable conclusion, imo.

Let's say were all playing Call of Duty online. Our computer only materializes the part of the game that we are looking at.

What's behind us in the game, is just code, it doesn't materialize until we look at it.

We are all playing the same game, or program, and have somewhat similar experiences.

If I come across you in the game, our computers render the same piece of reality, wich overlaps.

I think this applies more to the people that read your post, than the ones that read the OP.

Just because you are not able to grasp the speculative concept the OP talked about, doesn't mean others aren't interested.

Please, talk for yourself, or better yet, don't talk at all.

You may think that you're sitting in a brightly lit room but the reality is that you're in fact sitting in and completely surrounded by, pitch darkness ... with the illusion of light being created only INSIDE YOUR MIND by the few photons entering your eyes.

In reality, between your eyes and your hand in front of your face is nothing but darkness ... with only photons carrying information about your hand making the actual crossing.

As far as I am concerned your 'theory' falls flat. You cannot state there is darkness all around you since the very concept of darkness can only exist if you have a concept of light. Without the sensory equipment that we have developed to enable us to 'see' in our environment there is no light or dark and therefore in my opinion your argument is void, and you cannot state that all around you is total darkness because that is a term that depends on the concept of light. My perception of the effect of the photons is irrelevant as neither the perception nor the concept exist in reality.

Absolutely! The same idea can be applied to all 5 senses... The brain models the world for itself based on various electrical impulses recieved from the sensors, eyes, nose, etc. But what is really out there?

We model the world to the best of our abilities, but what if something like a quantom physics type paradox is observed. Now we have to face the fact that what we observed really happened, the the reason we see a paradox is because of how we see or how we interpret our inputs.

I think the "problem" is on our end - the event "is what it is". We simply may lack the sensor ability in sensing or interpreting that would allow us to see or understand exactly what is going on. We see and interpret a reduced version which seems to be impossible.

But for the vast majority of daily needs, our senses are more than adequate - which is why we may sometimes think they are all there is. That the model of the world our brain constructs from the impuses recieved from our limited sensors (and the artificial ones we build with them) - is complete.
