Defence officials' insulting remarks about the public had to be blanked out of government UFO files before they were made public, a memo has revealed.

The Ministry of Defence had agreed to publish its full archive of reported sightings in response to a deluge of Freedom of Information Act requests.

But the once-secret memo, published on its website, reveals "uncomplimentary comments" were edited out.

Comments on international relations and defence technology were also deleted.

Thousands of pages from the department's UFO files have been released through the National Archives since 2008, revealing details of reported flying objects and encounters with aliens.

The newly released memo to ministers and defence chiefs, dated September 2007, discusses how to make the largely "low security classification" information public. The files are considerably less exciting than the 'industry' surrounding the UFO phenomena would like to believe

What i find weird about this, or maybe its just the way that the article is worded, is that how the M.O.D. Will mention the UFO reports e.t.c. And dont mind the presence (similar to the, if we ignore it, it'll go away stance) as long as their not a threat to the UK.

Also, Mr Howard should maybe have hypnotic regresshion. Maybe he was at home when they were parked above his house?
Or if it is goverment tech, maybe one of our British fly boys was cocky enougth to give the future secretary a lift home?

It means they dont belive they were craft of somekind. They think ufos are either 1. misidentifications of manmade objects 2. Known atmospheric phenomenon (ball lighting etc) 3. Astronomical phenomenon 4. Unknown natural phenomenon.

None of these are of defense significance. Also interesting how he calls it the "industry" of ufology. That MoD man knows his stuff.

It means their words were carefully crafted to reflect whatever disinfo they wanted convey. The really good cases are never declassified, but kept secret. The cases that do show a clear defense significance are not revealed. The MoD are releasing these files just like bluebook did, and not using any of the good cases for any release.

It's important to point out that anyone can make a UFO sighting report..anyone at all and for any reason. Not all of the witnesses are sane and sober. Pranks happen, hoaxes! There are people with real mental illnesses and they also can make reports.

Maybe the MOD shouldn't have written comments? I don't know. Bear in mind that these reports were passed on. I'd be likely to jot a comment too if I thought it would save a guy down the line from wasting his time on a duff report.
