I just got home from seeing this movie with my girlfriend...all i can say is wow. The entire movie makes you identify with Leo Dicaprios character who turns out to be the crazy one. He created an entire false life because he did not want to deal with the fact that his wife killed drowned his 3 kids and he killed her.

The messed up part is that you are so identified with the character, when you find out he is crazy, you actually feel crazy. Like maybe your whole life isnt what you think it is. Almost like the truman show. Like everything you think you know about this world has just been a blanket pulled over your eyes. You are living in an alternate reality looking through a glass window at yourself.

After it ended I stood up and felt very anxious which is not normal for me at all. My girlfriend who has had one panic attack in her life, went into a full blown state of anxiety. By the time we got to the car she was having trouble breathing. I have never had a panic attack but I had a slight feeling about what its like to have one. It must be earth shattering for people when this feeling completely takes you over. It is like another dimension.

I am just wondering if anyone else who saw this movie felt anything similar.

I saw the movie tonight. Although I didn't have any reaction like yours or your girlfriends, I can say that other than a few applause, the theatre was very quiet... and it was packed too. There wasn't an empty seat in there. Everyone was silent as they left....that was strange to me.

I actually had it figured out pretty quick.
Down to where I knew his wife killed the kids.

I thought it was definitely a good movie. I always appreciate a scary movie that is really scary. Not cheap and jumpy.

1) I figured out he was crazy and an actual inmate "thinking he wasn't" from the commercial. It is kinda "in your face".

2) Do NOT watch Fightclub with your girlfriend or alone. I am warning you.

3) Breath...relax...just remember you are no Leo Dicaprio!

Please just hang in there buddy. I know how hard it can be seeing one of these Hollywood mind-weapons known as "movies".

PS- Spoiler alert- Bruce Willus is actually a ghost in Six Sense. The kid sees him because he sees dead people...get it? FRICKEN CRAAAAAAAAZY! Almost dropped my meds when I found that one out.

I can't wait to see it! I love thrillers like this!

I hope that it will be as good as it seems it will be, and leaves me with all kinds of thoughts and intrigue!

I feel like I'm crazy a lot of times. Once I thought that I had retardation and that everyone around me was just trying to be nice about it by keeping it a secret, but I really had some form of major mental illness. I was just completely in denial for the entirety of my life intill this moment. All my friends weren't my friends, just pittying me. My family just put up with me and let me live the lie because it made me feel better. Basicaly my entire life was a lie and the truth was my worst nightmare.

Thankfully this only lasted for about 30 minutes, but it was pretty interesting.

Wow sounds like a good movie indeed. Make me believe Leo!!! Make me BELIEVE!!!

Honestly, now... some of you couldn't figure out he crazy was just from the trailer? The whole trailer is a dead giveaway.

I refuse to see any movie where they give me the whole plot and climax in the stupid trailer. I mean, why see it? You're just giving your money away.

Plus that movie advertised ages ago, and when they don't come out on time, I know its a turkey.

Rules are if they promote the movie for an unusally long time, put a lot of money into promoting everywhere, and give away the plot in the trailer, then its usually a loser film and they're trying to make their money back as fast as they can before it goes straight to video.

Judging by the responses here, they made some money.

I first want to say thank God your girlfriend is okay. I just came from seeing Shutter Island and I must say Ive experienced my first panic in that theater. When I came home I felt compelled to see if this has happened to any one else so I searched Google with "shutter island panic attack" and that's how I found your post. It was also funny that it came during the "climax" part of the film when everything was unwinding. At first I didn't know what was happening I thought I needed to call an ambulance, but I was able to calm my self down. It was the weirdest thing ever and I'm still shaking but I'm glad I'm not "crazy", and not the only one who experienced this. No more psychological thrillers for a while!

sorry to be mean or rude if you take it the wrong way...But if you have a panic attack just from watching a movie, then you probably shouldn't be in there in the first place.Its a movie, its not real.

sorry to be straight forward but...But if you just come on threads to criticize people maybe you should find something better to do with your time.

Fact is it was extremely gory and had an effect on a lot of people and I was interested in other peoples reactions, not judgments about my girlfriends medical condition.

I saw it and found it to be somewhere between a B grade movie and a cinamatic masterpiece. I had the plot figured out early on and the way they used the oldstyle I'm awake, I'm not awake , I'm awake, thing was pretty obvious. Plus there we're some pretty unbelievable premises being thrown around. I wasn't that impressed. Acting was good.

I would get a new girlfriend, but that is just me. Any girl that would feel threatened by Leo in a movie would probably have a hard time with reality and things like her own bills. It was not like that movie was anything close to good.

I read the book a year or so ago, and the author didn't foreshadow a damn thing, and then just lumped all that the-guy-is-crazy-and-the-doctors-are-staging-all-this-for-therapy crap in the last chapter. Apparently, the movie actually bothers to do a little craftwork on the story, and is a lot better, but I was really insulted by the book. It read like one of those stupid made-for-TV-movies where the guy wakes up at the end and it was all a dream.
