People who are in favor of gay rights are saying that we should all have the equal ability to marry a consenting adult we love, regardless of that person's gender, and be able to enjoy the benefits that marriage entails regardless of our sexual orientation.

In other words, the same rights for everyone, gay or straight.

That's all there is to it.

You are comparing apples to oranges there .

Some gays have no interest in the opposite sex period so they do not have a choice marry someone of the opposite sex or you cant get married .

It wast that long ago a white could not marry a black . there were all sorts of objections to it it was not moral , it was like bestiality or like dogs and cats mating . Some where along the line we grew up and realized it wasn't that bad and the government was interfering with their civil rights .

Today we need to grow up again and realize our treatment of them is wrong .

Believe me here I was very antigay a while back . And after seeing first hand with coworkers friends and relatives were going threw to live with the person they loved . And to see who they were taken advantage of by people quoting the law made me sick . life insurance going to a parent instead of the significant other named on the policy to enforcing the anti cohabitation laws that are never used with married couples ( some states 2 people can not engage in cohabitation a house as husband and wife unless they are married ) .

I may not believe it is right but the way the gays are treated is morally wrong . I believe it is a mass civil rights violation.

IMO it's been the marriage of the GOP and the most socially conservative (or rather reactionary) elements of society that is one of the reasons for its present downfall. On social issues, it has been the opposite of progressive -- it's been regressive.

Young people today just don't accept the denial of basic individual freedoms such as the right to marry a person of your own choice. I noticed it was young people who seem to be the mainstay of GOProud at CPAC. They may be fiscally conservative, but they are strongly in favor of civil rights. It was the young people who rallied in great numbers to the Obama campaign in 08. If it is wise, the Republicans will realize that the young people are the future of their party too. It's been too long the party of rich old white men.

I am personally not in favor of Ron Paul's belief in totally laissez faire capitalism, but I do understand his appeal to young people.

If the GOP wants to keep the young in the fold, they need to resist becoming socially and ethically stagnant.
