Lol it makes me laugh when people claim we are over populated, look at the eco system of this planet, everything believe it or not is perfectly balanced, we couldn't over populate this planet if we tried, The more land we occupy the more we endanger other species.

Example:
if we wiped out alot of the forests and grass lands to make room for cities, where would the flowers grow?, with limited flowers the bee population would fall and as a result crops wouldn't be pollenated, then our food supply weakens, then we weaken.

You see albeit a poor example no matter how powerful we get the ecosystem will always balance even if it means wiping out generations of species to do so.

There is no way we can overpopulate this planet.

Over population is nothing to do with the amount of space people need to live in, it is about the requirements to feed those people.

Personally, i think as soon as you are unable to sustain a population using natural methods, overpopulation is occurring. If you take that into account, overpopulation has been existing significantly since the 50's after the beginning of the Green Revolution in agriculture. We are relying entirely on our own technologies for producing food, technologies which are in-turn entirely governed by the oil industry for mechanization, petrochemicals and electricity.

We cant keep staving off the inevitable forever, sooner or later demand will overtake supply and the system will collapse. That is without even considering the energy crisis of the near future, or de-fertilization of land.

Besides, if we cram everyone into mega-cities, imagine the rates of crime, the levels of poverty and the massive amount of power needed to maintain them in the first place and the pollution that will be created. That and the mental health of those living in them of cause.

i believe the key is in decentralisation, and taking life directly back into our own hands, and our own power.

a ´new´method of agriculture known as permaculture is proving that for milennia we have been approaching farming the completely wrong way round, wasting vast amounts of work on forcing nature to produce single crop monocultures. permaculture uses the natural balance of the ecosystem to eliminate pesticides, fertilisation, and maximises vertical space. it is a sustainable method that could allow each and every family to provide for itself. which would eliminate ´supercities´and the gross overproduction associated with them. as well as the mountain of nasties required for 'modern' agriculture.
excuse the wikipedia link, there is tons and tons more on the subject. sepp holzer is a nice guy to look up.

time to evole people!

This is funny. That is exactly what I consider overpopulation to be - the ecosystem will balance itself by wiping out us.

The planet is already overpopulated in many places, because what you described is already happening.

Good day everyone.

Let it be clear that overpopulation only exists in the eyes of society. The current systems of government and trade are not able to feed the populace so you could say we are overpopulated, but.

The options and choices are their to change everything. The only reason why those changes are not occurring is human ignorance.

Knowing this I find it offensive to talk about over population. It is unfair towards all the people that do not have any food because the have to endure the whims of corruption and greed. They having many children is not a problem or a threat it is even necessary for when TSHTF and finally realise that our population is going to drop like a brick.

Since the advent of humanity man has had to deal with famine. The numbers are bigger now then before because the technological revolutions sent the population growth in to overdrive.

Ironically those same revolutions could have provided the solutions if people were more understanding towards the plea of every human. Even more ironic is that the welfare that came with the technology will get our population declining again.

For those who say that the resources are not their to support this many people. I believe you are misinformed. Saying that their is overpopulation is a stones throw away from saying it would be wise to exterminate a portion of the populace just to be safe. Congrats you have just become the NNWO

I am a advocate for permaculture and I believe that if everybody would have a garden and we would all live in a decentralised state everything would be fine. The act of everyone gardening for themselves will gain great respect for nature and for themselves. Man will be so happy to have saved themselves that over the top live styles will dwindle and consumerism will come to a halt.

MEANINGFUL EDIT

The destruction of the eco system has nothing to do with overpopulation and everything to do with mismanagement on all conceivable levels. Never looking further than ones nose is long.

Farming is a great way to start. People are hungry now so the best way to fix it is farming IMHO.

The world population only seems over-populated because certain steps aren't being taken to help human beings grow.

Life Style is a big part of it too. You have to have poor people to do all the crappy jobs you don't want to do.

The biggest obstacle to having an adequate food supply is energy. You can grow a great amount food in floors of a tall building but the energy required is extensive. If we can solve the eenrgy problem the food problem will take care of itself.

As for the crappiest jobs paying the worst wages you are absolutely correct. It is ass backwards. Those who do the crappiest, hardest labor deserve to be paid the most and not the other way around. We have protected people against survival of the fittest type physical threats, it is due time to protect them intellectual threats as well. Buyer beware only goes so far when the buyer doesn't have the faculties to be properly beware. It is up to society to offer that protection and instead we exploit that weakness for our own greed.

Well for one people around the world do not have complex building structures like in America, U.K., China, and etc.

Crops can be grown the old fashioned way, which should be embraced immediately. Although interior methods of growing food is always a great choice as well, as long as you know what you are doing.

Inside methods are trickier, so having a good energy source say, solar power with a mix of hydrogen energy, the energy problem may be solved. You then recycle and cool the emissions and then reuse them. Its a closed loop system of creating energy.

There are other ways of doing energy also.

The thing about energy though is that once energy is free, the people become free, and the elite controlling everyone do not want the people to be free, so energy creating machines will remain buried.

Nickolai Tesla had it.

Growing food inside like vertical hydroponics is one of the best ways of using space and reaping the most food.

Also look into Dome homes.
