The Taliban cause casualties by indiscriminate fire during attacks

Good post!

I'll expand on what you mean by "indiscriminate fire". It has cultural significance and interest.

The Taliban are poorly funded (they use the income from the local poppy fields to fund their operations) and are mostly only locally organized. They have limited munitions so you'd think they would use something like the "one enemy one bullet" concept but that isn't true. Often they use the "spray and prey" method.

Us forces first saw this technique used in Northern Afghanistan in the beginning operations. They saw enemy combatants, Taliban, shooting their AK47 on automatic above their heads in a sort of sweeping style. Obviously not a very accurate way of shooting a rifle!

When Taliban prisoners were asked why they shot this way they responded that if they shot accurately to kill a man they would then be forever responsible for that man's sole (a great burden, apparently). So if they used the spray and prey method if they killed someone, it would be only by chance, not intention and the shooter not responsible!

I'm going to guess that this boy's wound came from an AK47!

This is so disgusting.

I'm a veteran, spent 2 years in Iraq. It's common to help someone if the situation permits, regardless. It doesn't excuse the fact that the whole ordeal is just a big cluster# anyway.

Keep at it though, I'm sure all those soldiers overseas appreciate it that you're using them for political points and petty black & white slander.

Right.

You mean like when the 82nd moved into New Orleans, along with mercenaries.. oops I mean "private security", and shot the whole place up?

Yeah, thank God they got in there and killed as many people as they could, racking up kills on folks "looting" to survive.

How come if this article was titled, "US troops shoot civilians", some posters here on ATS would be saddling up their high horse and adding their two cents on how bad US/NATO forces are?

But here's a story where those same forces are saving the life of a kid, no questions asked. Yet on ATS, you only hear crickets.

NATO is evil, i am sure you havent heard what they have done in the past, dawhat they did in serbia, which of coruse they bomed them for 70 days night and day, school childern got killed, gassed and other problems, NATO showed no mercy to them.

Well the pro wars supported the NATO RIGHT to bomb them.

As for the war in that country its a drug war really.

We have no real enemy, the only enemy is the enemy we create.

As for that story, its only a media propaganda hit piece, just to gather up some war supporters.

I dont blame the troops, but the military complex, and americas presidents whom have sent the troops in harms way.

From the posts you have made you seem to be a fine war supporter.

Really? I'd like to see some sources about the 82nd shooting up New Orleans and just killing people without thought?

Oh, and was this before or after the citizens of New Orleans were taking pot shots at my friends helicopter when they were rescuing people off rooftops? Just curious.

Regardless of politics and agendas and the who-shot-who's, one thing I am fairly certain of and that is that the little boy and his family are very glad that he was able to get the help he needed and will live.

For all those calling this a politically motivated report, just consider the boy's life a bonus.

Seriously, can we not accept the good news of a life saved? It could easily have been a tragedy for all concerned.

I dont care what your feelings for the wars are... Rainfall you have made your point hundreds of times, and If my memory serves me correct you were the one who passed off an Atzlan article as proof that US troops Raped Iraqis, when in fact is was only Porn Actors. But Besides that its about the warrior they are willing to engage and destroy an enemy thousands of miles away on the enemies own turf and keep civilain casulties to a minumal.

You think the war is illegal thats your right, you dont like the war again that is your right, However I am tired of your crazy lefty ideas, not ever soldier is a brutal cold blooded killer. Hopefully when Johnny comes marching home again, they will take care of our corrupt goverment for us.

The Taliban are accused of using civilians as "human shields" as they battle against a joint Afghan-Nato offensive in Helmand.

Interesting Article.
Marines still looking over shoulder for Taliban

MARJAH, Afghanistan (Reuters) - It's only been six days since NATO launched a major assault against the Taliban and some Afghans are already asking Marines when they can reopen their shops.

Afghanistan: If the enemy vanishes -- kill civilians

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/54891b4a68bc.jpg[/atsimg]

NATO'S CURRENT offensive in the Afghan town of Marjah is being portrayed as a low casualty mission in the "good war" to get rid of the Taliban.

If you were to believe the news broadcasts, it's already a success.

Since the assault was always intended to be as much a publicity stunt as serving any military objective, Barack Obama and Gordon Brown will certainly be pleased at how the media has snapped into line and acted as stenographers for Nato press releases.

But, with very few enemy to engage, it wasn't long -- two days in fact-- before tragedy struck when a missile attack looking for Taliban to kill managed to slaughter 12 civilians, five of them children -- the very people this war was supposedly tailored to keep out of harm's way.

The civilian deaths in Kandahar and Marjah are a brutal reminder of the heavy price many Afghans will pay in the months and years to come to save the face of those responsible for prosecuting a futile and unjustifiable war.

You and your fake news sources are a Joke, We get it you hate the Military, thats your right, But I will not stand by and watch you spin lies and propaganda.... IF any soldier commits a crime he will be punished, just like an American citizen you murders another. THEY WILL BE PUNISHED... Now if you dont like living here in America feel free to leave this country, I am sure that the French or China would except you... Hell you could move to Iran or Saudi Arabia... Well see how soon you scream to come back.... Ill help you pack, Ill buy your ticket...

whois.domaintools.com...

Do you know anything about the man who runs this site? How does a guy in Italy get this information?

I am all for peace, I want all American Troops out of Afghan and Iraq and the rest of the world, I wont them home on the borders keeping the Illegals out and the Drugs out..... But I will not spread lies about it from the comfort of my armchair. Nor will I second guess them unless there is clear cut evidence that US Troops commited this act.... You are always willing to attack, attack, attack, without verifing.

A picture speaks a thousand words, but it doesn't show who fired the bullet that killed the child.

Nice try but yet another EPIC FAIL!

this is a garbage deflection.

Human shields are not a new tactic, have been used by nearly every country on earth, and dont explain the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Iraqi civilians killed.

So, since they have been used in the past, it's OK to use them now? Get a grip!!

Google "LOAC" and read up on it. This is what's being followed by US troops, and NOT by the Taliban.

"Hundreds of thousands" of Iraqis. Well, at least it's not the three million some rocket scientist said in another thread.
You do realize, tho, that the insurgents kill more civilians by setting off car bombs, etc, in crowded markets?

Glad to see you missed the point here too.

It is not okay to do this.

My point is that this is purely being used as propaganda. Why don't you cry for all the other times they are used?

Because you are a victim of pro-western propaganda.

I love how out of one side of your mouth you use the 'so if they did it that doesnt make it okay' argument, then, 2 paragraphs later you argue that, since insurgents kill civilians, its perfectly okay that troops do.

Iraqi and Afghan casualties have regularly been flown to the UK for treatment - I don't know if this happens in the US so I can't comment.

Iraqi and Afghan casualties have regularly been treated for wounds received in battle or as part of "collateral" damage.

Is this down to the humanity of the ordinary troops, or does a little something called the Hippocratic Oath come into play?

Personally, I'd like to think it's a little of both.

No, you didn't. You just lied and think that everyone is to believe it. Get your act together before you post your lies next time, and maybe you won't get caught so easy.

You are a no-go at this station.

We can play this Tit for Tat game all night long. Some die in the crossfire, others die as Taliban Human shields while still others are deliberately TARGETED!

14 Children Die In Afghan School Bombing

A suicide bomber tried to attack a meeting of tribal elders and blew himself up near an Afghan primary school on Sunday, killing 14 children and wounding 58 people

Taliban blamed for bombing five schools

PESHAWAR, Pakistan | Suspected Taliban militants bombed five schools in the Swat Valley in their growing campaign against girls' education as militant attacks killed a Pakistani soldier near the crucial supply route to U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan on Monday.
