The Definition/ History of being Canadian "Eh"?

I love it as well!!
Its true,its as Canadian as hockey and beer.
To me I never really realized how much its a part of our vocabulary til I sat down and thought of how often I really do hear this word.
Weird eh??

When I was in public school and reading out loud I would say eh before every sentence.
Glad I grew out of that eh.
Oh the naming of Canada started a little bit like this.
C eh n eh d eh, hmmm cehnehdeh. Then the eh was replaced with a giving us the name Canada eh

What I like about the use of 'eh' is that it takes conversation out of the realm of stiff formality and gives it more affable and casual quality -- more in keeping with the generally perceived persona of a typical Canadian.

I'd be curious to know how many immigrants to Canada adopt the use of 'eh' when becoming comfortable in the use of Canadian English as their second language. I'll have to pay more attention to that.
