Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele plans to sit down with about 50 Tea Party leaders Tuesday in the first such meeting of two wings of the conservative movement that could be either vital partners or bitter rivals. The meeting is part of a broader effort by national Republicans to reach out to Tea Party activists rather than risk their hand-picked candidates being run over by the movement.

"The chairman believes it extremely important to listen to this significant grassroots movement and work to find common ground in order to elect officials that will protect these principles," RNC spokeswoman Katie Wright said. But one Tea Party activist who traveled hundreds of miles to attend the meeting at RNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., said sparks could fly.

"Steele wants to try to co-opt us, but we're coming to tell him he doesn't get it. We want to return the Republican Party to its roots. We're expecting some fireworks," the activist said.

Haha. This is actually funny. On my drive home from work last night as I listened to the radio...Mr. Sean Hannity was PLEADING with tea party supporters to VOTE GOP in 2010....claiming that he didn't want what happened to Bush Sr. with Ross Perot happen in the coming election....and split GOP votes.

Then I find this beautiful article...from Fox News nonetheless!!!!! The Tea Party vote....if it still EXISTS on election day...could in reality change everything. It won't mean a clean slate of new Republicans....which currently only have the answer of cutting CORPORATE TAXES.

I hope people don't fall into the trap and vote out of spite like they did in the last election and vote all R's or D's across the board.

The Tea party looks like it has died, I thought they may have done something, at our local tea party meetings there was always bickering on what to do, there wasnt a real strong central leadership even though some have begun to emrge and distnace themselves from the one party two branches GOP and Dems

I still don't understand what the tea party people want. Do they like Ron Paul? Why is Sarah Palin with them now? To ruin it?

I believe if the movement was still pure as it was before Obama was elected...it would be Rand Paul. He's actually probably the real leader is their is one...it's definitely not Sarah Palin although she has been appointed it by the media.

Rand Paul is going to win a senate seat in Kentucky as he's doing well in the polls there. This could set him up for a Presidential run....quite similar to how Obama was elected as he didn't serve long in the Senate either before running for Pres.

I agree with many of his stances...although not all...but that's' to be expected with anyone as I'll never totally agree with anyone.....but he is for CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM...which to me is vital to democracy and any resemblance of it.

His stance of war/defense though is rather lacking on this site which bothers me as well. Can't stop the deficit without ending the war.

Well I've heard that many in the TPM won't even attend the meeting as they want nothing to do with it or the GOP.

One thing is for sure...Sean Hannity seems concerned...and I LOVE that. I just hope people aren't stupid enough to vote the same (insert expletive here) that we just got rid of.

I know people are angry at the current politicians...but voting in the same type of people that were in there before them certainly isn't a good alternative either.

No more voting for the lesser of two evils.

Thanks. I'm glad they might still have a chance with Rand Paul. The TPM just never seemed like a real movement to me. I wish they would get more information out to the general public somehow; I also think they should tell Palin to go have her own party somewhere else.
