When would aliens show themselves? Not now for sure!

If an alien race was visiting our planet, assuming they are advanced enough to either travel faster than the speed of light, or through worm holes in space to reach us they probably even have the ability to travel through time using such methods. Lets assume all the above to be true, then why would this advanced alien race show themselves to the human race on Earth now? We are definitely not ready as a species, not yet at least. Wouldn't this alien race travel through time to find a better time to make themselves know to us? I would think that they would look for a time where we have evolved to a level that we respect ourselves and our planet before showing themselves to us. Now is certaily not the time to come "visit" and expose themselve to us as a society as a whole.
