How eventful, or maybe not...
I'm really seeing what he's talking about.
Wal-Mart's prices are LOWER THAN EVER.
I'm totally going to go live in the Islamic nation.

Maybe if they spent the same amount of energy on supporting their own people and their well being, we wouldn't consider them a threat to stability in the region.

Naw, can't take over the world and eliminate all non-believers in preparation for the Last Imam and do that too. Won't work. Gotta cut off some heads, stone some women and other important stuff. Cant have any freedom in Paradise. Won't work. People will start wanting real elections, free speech and a free press; then what ya gonna do?

Gotta get rid of Capitalism too. Can't have ordinary people owning nice stuff and living well. That is reserved for the elite. Gotta make sure there is no real middle class to keep all the power and wealth in hands of the leaders where it belongs. What's a few innocent peoples lives here and there in the scheme of things, anyway?

Only problem with that is pretty much everything needed to make your electric car is made from oil. From the paint, foam seats, dash, to the tires(there's something like 7 gallons of oil in each tire). We couldn't get away from oil no matter how hard we tried. The oil industry has made sure of that. And you will need to change the oil in your electric car. It's like any other mechanical machine with moving parts, they have to be lubricated.

You really don't see the irony of this statement, do you?

You're describing capitalism.

What country do you live in?

I live in a Capitalist country called the United States. We have people here who fail but it's not caused by the system.

I started out dirt poor. I studied, worked hard, started a small business and I'm well into the Middle Class and live quite well. Wonderful part of the United States is that anyone can do it.

I was even a homeless person for a short while. That's when I figured out that the only thing holding me back was me. I sat around whining and acting like a child when I was young or I could have done even better.

I love the fact I live in a country where I could be a homeless person one day and business owner doing well just a couple of years later.

A wise man told me to stop fighting the system and learn to use it the way it was intended. I took his advice and it worked.

I have my doubts that Iranians living in a fake Democracy ran by radical religious nuts and a President put in power with a fake election have these opportunities. They should though, but you have to have Capitalism in a free country to do that.

Oddly enough some people actually defend places like Iran where they still stone women to death and treat them like property. They defend a place where speaking freely results in having you head cut off.

Luckily the vast majority of us know propaganda when we hear it or read it and those who are fooled are a tiny minority. We don't sit in a free country enjoying it's blessings while at the same time criticizing it and pretending other horrible countries ran by tyrants are a better choice. We prefer the truth.

We have our problems with bad leaders who fool us into voting for them, but for the most part our system works. We have glass is half empty people who sit around waiting for gloom and doom to happen but that is OK. People are free to do and say what they wish.

Since no other form of government has ever worked this well and since we live better and more free than those in other systems, this will do for now. We are a smart people who eventually figure things out and fix problems. We have those who throw their hands in the air and whine all the time, but most of us pitch in and do our part and look forward to a better future as we learn by our mistakes.

We do have wanna be dictators and evil men who preach things like Anarchy, Communism and Marxism and dream of dictating to others themselves. They worship other evil men and butchers like Che or Castro and delude themselves. They are blind to history but it is also their right as long as they don't commit acts of violence or try to force their wrong minded views on others. They choose to live in the shadows and pretend they are suffering but we all know they just don't want to work or try. That's OK too. They only hurt themselves.

Occasionally they start destroying other peoples property in one of their temper tantrums, but a night in a cell quiets them down until the next tantrum. Nobody takes them seriously and they don't really do that much harm. Why they destroy innocent peoples property in protest escapes me, but for some twisted reason it makes sense to them. Mad at the government over something so they throw rocks through some innocent small business owners window proving they are not right in the head. Go figure?

Rant over. I feel better. Have great day. Flame away.

i totally agree. the US is founded on great principles and i think those who bash the US and glorify Chavez and Iran's religious leaders need to get out of their bubble and visit or even try to live in those countries for a year or so, making the same wages as a natives and conforming to their rules. i'm sure they'll return to the US as soon as they see how life really is in Iran or Venezuela or N Koreea or any other such place that "sticks it to the man"...

the US is not perfect but you can't be sane and really believe life is better in a dictatorship! remember the USSR used to hold elections too... and just like it happened in Iran, the "dear leader" always wins.

Well said. Our system of democracy may still produce many terrible injustices and inequalities, but it has proven to be so superior to other forms of governance there is no real contention.

We are able to criticize our leader and even force accounting to a judicial system when we discover their transgressions. We may not be operating at 100% efficiency but at an enviable level compared to elsewhere.

Resentment and self-loathing often characterizes the most ardent critics of our system. The same energy might better be focused on improvement and self-improvement rather than maligning those who try to work wit in the given parameters to improve the quality of life for themselves and everyone else.

When I hear harsh critiques of the US or Britain and their interference in world affairs I ask back: "What do you think would happen if the West just looked the other way and let events run their natural course. Would an Iraq and Afghanistan miraculously be filled with happy people and their leaders be sharing their largess equitably. Or would it just mean the Russians, the Chinese, local warlords and aggressive neighbouring states would be exploiting them even less charitably?”

If Iran is truly ushering in the demise of the Capitalist System I hope they can give us a preview of what they will be replacing it with. So far mentioned are some fantasy notions like a return to the Caliphate, a semi-mythical world that existed a thousand years ago. Roughly analogous to us all returning to the days of chivalry with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

A charming fantasy. But exactly what are the means and mechanisms to equitably provide quality of life and security for a few billion people?

Religious Magic?

The only thing that happened today is that Bill Clinton was led to the hospital for heart surgery. Failed assassination attempt, who knows and, probably not. But, if Iran is got insiders taking out U.S. Officials starting today, i suppose its gonna be a really interesting year if they just start dropping one by one. Personally, i would have gone for Bushie first but hey... in times of war, you play the hand you're dealt.

I know its far fetched and most probably not what he meant but, it's the only major thing out in North American news channels.

Or it can also be that he's gotten his Nuclear Arsenal ready to lock and load, seek and destroy. This seems a bit more plausible with the latest chatter on Iranian Nuclear developments.

Sometimes the most obvious thing is the simplest answer...

Let's see what happens tomorrow.

Personally, I'm betting on a joke.

I should at least get a consolation prize, or something.

Mr A incessantly plays to the media - Muslim World and Western.
What other county has ever given progress reports on their weapons acquisitions?

He'd get a lot of stars and flags on ATS, coming up with zinger subject lines that draw attention. His next job could be writing copy for Iranian govt mouthpiece tabloid papers. Don't know if they have any other kind.

Ahma-didn't-do-squat!! He's got an electric go kart and some nuclear sand.

Big whoop.

I think the whole thing is under the direction of the Mossad.
Ahma-dinner-is-on will just read the script written for him in Tel Aviv.
And broadcast it on the telavivzion.
And block Google email.

It was all a big fat joke.

Actually if your truly knew how capitalism functioned you would understand that there must always be people on the bottom just so there can be people on top. I.e. McDonald’s worker, if we didn't have any of these poor bastards there would be no wealthy McDonald's owner. So in theory not everyone can rise above poverty. Then you will probably argue to get another job, well if every poor person got enough jobs to keep themselves above poverty then there would be millions of poor without a job. So basically in capitalism not everyone can succeed.

Touche, welcome to the Capitalist whorehouse, where the only goal in life is to drag everyone and everything into the gutter. Morals, ethics, honour, integrity; goodbye!!!!!!!!! The only thing that matters is how much wealth you have.

Is there a system in which everyone can succeed? I'd be very interested in learning more about it if there is one of which you are aware! Capitalism is far from perfect but there is not a better economic model in existence.

I'm open to hear opposing views on this but please, if I may, can we avoid an endless stream of posts claiming how evil the US is? That would be much appreciated!

It just occured to me that you are assuming that we are a capitolist system. Not quite true anymore. Europe is a far left socialism, and we are a rather conservative socialism. To do this we had to accept govt ignoring the law and the constitution. Getting a Kenyan/Nephalim in the White House is the latest chapter.
