Judge rebuffs Blagojevich's request for more evidence

The federal judge presiding over the criminal case against former Gov. Rod Blagojevich today declined to order the prosecution to give additional evidence to Blagojevich's lawyers well before the June trial, criticizing a recent defense filing as "oddly detached from the issues."

U.S. District Judge James Zagel said prosecutors already have turned over a great deal of material and have agreed to reasonable deadlines for the rest of its evidence.

Are we not allowed to view all evidence brought against us prior to trial? Why would good old Rod be denied this right? Unless of course "they" are only putting on a show trial since his death would raise obvious doubts, we in Chicago have had a number of public servants commit suicide lately. Oddly enough, part of what is not being turned over are the FBI notes regarding Obama's statements pertaining to Blagojevich.

Edit to add: For those unfamiliar, Blagojevich is accused of trying sell Obama's senate seat.

Haven't you watched enough Law & Order to know that lawyers really do play a game of poker with the opposing side before a trial? Why would the prosecution want to show all of their cards? If the defense knew the extent of the evidence before the trial it would give them ample time to fake an alibi or fake evidence to counter it. Also, not knowing the other person's cards means a greater that you will fold and decide to strike a plea bargain.
