Think this will impact the markets? The ships will arrive in the Persian Gulf around Thursday. Odd, I thought the nations would gather in the valley of Megiddo...

Two Israeli missile boats reportedly passed through the Suez Canal Thursday morning, according to Arab media reports over the weekend.

Egyptian authorities reportedly adopted strict security measures to ensure the ships' safety. According to the reports, the two Navy ships traveled through the canal en route to the Red Sea.

The sources did not provide the exact ultimate destination of the missile boats. However, Egyptian maritime sources quoted in the Arab media estimated that both ships were headed to the Persian Gulf and may reach it within four days. The veracity of these estimates is unclear.

The sail through the Suez Canal was coordinated with Egyptian authorities, which reportedly adopted strict security arrangements to ensure the safe passage of the two Israeli ships. According to Arab media, Egyptian forces prevented any vessels from passing through the Canal and also stopped the vehicular traffic on the road leading to it.

According to the reports, one Israeli missile boat already passed through the Suez Canal in June and July of last year. In one case, the Israeli ship was said to have been accompanied by an Israeli submarine.

Last week, Egyptian newspaper al-Shuruq reported that the US has been holding extensive maneuvers in the Persian Gulf, including some across Iran's shores. The report was based on information provided by senior Egyptian sources.

In addition, the newspaper reported that Israeli vessels have been mapping the Persian Gulf's waters in the past six months in cooperation with American forces belonging to the Fifth Fleet. However, it appears the report regarding Israel was baseless, and that it was leaked in an attempt to gauge Jerusalem's response.

The ships (if they do link up with the US ships) will not affect the markets... but it might be worth talking openly at the economic effects of a war with Iran.. differing scenarios depending on how far this escalates.

Which markets will suffer, which will boom and how those factors will filter down to us.. e.g. higher energy prices, more restrictions in travel etc..

It might be worth talking about those in relation to the current set of economic circumstances we find ourselves dealing with. Unless that was what you meant and the point flew over my head

Those warships there are armed with missiles. Their purpose there is to prevent the disruption of oil trade and supply caused by the iranian warmonger El Mad who is attempting to do a re-run of the movie 'wag the dog' to stifle internal dissent and direct hate to outsiders.

If the mad dog fires the first nuke, a volley of missiles will respond covering the entire land area of Iran, or at least their known nuke and missiles sites. Millions will die, thanks to El Mad.

Petrol may rise, but as economies are still sluggish in terms of trade and manufacturing, that rise will not be spectacular.

Stocks may tumble, but in any case, the stock market is nothing more than a Casino, fully manipulated by SWFs and Hedge funds to con suckers, nothing to do with actual economies.

Actual economies are dependent on needs and meeting those needs does a company prosper, thereby the nation. Stock market rise or fall, people still need to eat, drink and find shelter. No nation is self reliant thus trade in meeting those needs will ALWAYS continue on - druing wars or recessions.

The sooner we realize this truth, the less we will be frighten, lose our confidence and starve ourselves to death.

Humans still need to live. Iran fiasco will be a localized war, not a global one. China and Russia may make noises, but they have more problems to solve than to risk another total war for El Mad. Terrorists will attempt to strike, but there is only so many they can kill, and can never kill us mankind all.

I think along the time lines that Iran has had years to develop it's strategy.. at the moment it is the one calling the shots and playing a game, not that other way around.

I think you are under estimating Iran, since they have had time on their sides and are making the current moves per their schedule.. I beleive what ever move Iran might make, it will not be one we will expect.

Under estimating Iran would open the door to repeating the same mistake made with pre-WW2 Germany

Caveat: I am not calling Iranians Nazi's, but the comparison of Iran and Germany is there, Sanctions, being surrounded, facing a defence system (Maginot line) Economic turmoil, a militarised society yet the Germans produced some innovative militaristic solutions that caught everyone off guard.

The game is brinkmanship.. except this is brinkmanship in front of a cliff edge.. and it is all to easy to fall off!

And I feel you are wrong with the Neville Chamberlain, he represented the will of the people.. the will of the people was neither peace or war, hence the confused, hypocritical polices that ruled the day, which I feel is replicated in today's politics, The people where behind Chamberlain as they are Obama in seeking neither peace or war.

The Political, Economic and Militaristic landscape now is very similar to the pre war era... and if you where in Iran's place would you not have spent the last decade thinking paranoid thoughts that you are next.. would you not have spent the time investing in something to keep up your sleeve just in case.. I know I would. Hence why I would not under estimate their capability... You might be right and I might be over estimating the threat, but I would rather be over prepared than under prepared.

lets just hope that no one falls off the cliff edge with this game of brinkmanship as it might get very messy.. Not because of Russia but because it will open the door to the other opportunist nations that might suddenly want to sort out any long standing issues they might have with their neighbours, which will really mess the global markets up.

As you say.. I hope the Iranian people sort this out before it get to the stage of patriotism obscuring reason.
