What would help those that have no jobs? What would help the poor?

No sales tax. Sales tax needs to be taken away completely. What say you? Besides, what does sales tax go toward that the other taxes don't? Tell me about it. What other good would eliminating sales tax do?

Last eliminating he sales tax was up for vote in MA. The gov spread all sorts of threats like "if we eliminate this tax we'll fire all the teachers and cops and release all the rapists from jail" so the morons voted to keep it.

I lived in CT when they passed their sales tax. The promise was the sales tax would bring in so much revenue that other taxes like gas and property and income would be cut. Morons believed it. Now there's a sales tax on top of all the other highest in the country taxes.

Here in NH groups keep trying to sell the same bull. They say we need a sales tax to ease the other tax burdens. So far the voters haven't been stupid enough to fall for it. Having living examples of the lie all around us like MA and CT help but even when the truth of it is in peoples faces they still eventually succumb to stupidity and vote for more servitude.

History has proven the sales tax is a lie in it's intended purpose and that the gov never cuts or gets rid of the other taxes when it institutes a new tax but history has also proved voters are stupid as hell and love their chains.

Unfortunately with the way things go in my home region, they fund a lot of thing through use of the sales tax since they're only allowed to do so much on a local scale of government.
Along with that, the local city government of my hometown is still underfunded regardless of whether they have significant taxes or not.

Taxes are taxing, a burden on whatever it's applied to. Want to kill off cigarettes? Tax them. Want to kill off guns and ammo sales? Tax them. Want to kill off sales? Tax them. Want to kill off business? Tax it.

Taxes are evil. Government was supposed to be able to support itself on the minting of currency.

That said, if the government had to tax, sales tax is what to tax, not our labor. We're double, triple-taxed by federal income tax, then state income tax, then sales tax, and property tax, and all the other registrations and fees we're forced to pay up.

I'm sick of it.

While getting rid of sales taxes are something nobody likes, I don't see how eliminating them at this point would have much effect. If someone can afford a $3000 plasma screen to begin with, the tax isn't really going to kill their budget. Where I live, most food items (except soda, candy, few other items) and clothing are not taxed, so I probably have it a little easier than most.

I don't disgaree with doing away with the sales tax. It has the effect of stifling economic activity. I would rather heavily tax income that is not spent. The best solution though is to do away with taxes all together and make our goverment's print money (not borrow) in order to fund operations. If the government does indeed provide value for the money they spend then you will find it has no effect on inflation. When they borrow it it gets leveraged 10X + which is the real cause of inflation.

Move to Delaware. It's a state. Here we have no sales tax. The penny pinchers across state lines in jersey PA and Maryland are always bringin their buiness here. Actually don't move here its horrible. We have the highest cancer rate in the country i hear. Dupont likes to dump its # in our water. Everyone smokes cigarettes, including me.

Ahhhh....just dawned on me why someone would float suspending sales tax, to boost consumer spending and GDP.

Fed Income tax receipts are down 25% and state income tax receipts are down 16.5%.

Consumer spending is 71% of GDP. If consumer spending revs up, then the government keeps the national GDP from contracting again in 2010.

I'm pretty sure they have suspended sales tax before like around back to school time? Does that make sense? I think I can remember that from living in Iowa, but I am pretty sure something like this has been done in the past, but not totally cutting it altogether.
