I have been reading the ATS website since I first was told about it back in 2004 when I resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have always enjoyed the ideas presented on the site as they are, to say the least, thought provoking.

The ATS mission statement to Deny Ignorance surely has been front and center so far as the ATS community is concerned with many well educated persons posting ideas that allow the standard individual to open up to new ideas as well as new technology.

For certain one idea has been on ATS since I have first started reading the site. This idea being that the USA has been painted as a oppressor rather than being painted as a beacon of freedom. I challenge this idea.

The tree is known by its fruit would be a saying that American's and Canadian's hear every Sunday morning.

It would seem that the US has a long history of bringing liberty to all rather then oppression.

A brief history shows this fact.

We conquered both Europe and the Pacific after WW2. Russia did the same.

All countries under the thumb of the US prospered. Japan became a economic power house with the Japanese people largely given freedom even after they ruthlessly killed millions of American and Canadian boys.

West Germany prospered as well becoming a European economic powerhouse. And then with the help of the CIA and the American Goverment Germany was united less then a generation after President John F. Kennedy said that we are all Berliner's.

China was given trading status with the US after Kissinger laid out negotiations with Chairman Mau.

The US and Canada have given the world the gift of flight, the gifts of computing, telecommunications, Nuclear energy, space travel, rock and roll, blues, jazz and the film industry.

The US and Canada adopted far reaching human rights fighting slavery, child labor, oppression of women, oppression of gay persons, oppression of those who have radical ideas (free speech) and the list goes on and on.

Farm and agriculture production was developed here and the technology has been exported throughout the world.

Even though the west has made many errors the end results are generally good if the NATO countries and the United States of America are allowed to prevail.

True we have made errors but overall the US and NATO champion freedom as well as the spread of knowledge and technology.

The ATS community needs to continue to Deny Ignorance and rightfully acknowledge that both the US and Canada (NATO) have been a force for good in this world bringing hope to the oppressed.

I for one believe in the general principals held by the west. That is justice, freedom and the right of the individual.

History shows that even though we have made many mistakes as a society still export the idea of justice, freedom and the right to pursue happiness.

What do you say ATS members?

Star and flagged whiteraven. A refreshing reminder of what America is all about. Innovation and freedom. I'm sure we could go on about the ills of any country but you are right, America seems to take the brunt of negativity on ATS. That's because we have so much going on. Don't take anything to heart.

Reminds me of this-
(Team America)WARNING- EXPLICIT LYRICS

(will learn how to embed)(mission accomplished).

Edit To add-
I think America has done more than it is appreciated for sure.
That in and of itself however; will not cloud my judgement when it comes to anything ill mannered concerning this country.
I agree with most of what you have to say,its sad that I dont get to hear these types of things that often.

Made me laugh...belly laugh.

I would agree with you to a degree except that the United States have more people abroad then any other country in the world.

These persons then they come home to North American soil then educate the rest through film, music, one on one, through the press, radio and televison and they freely convey that the world is not what many of us think it is.

For example.

I have a friend who fought in Viet Nam. He fought for freedom and yet when he came back not only did he say we made some horrible mistakes years later he adopted a orphan Viet Namese baby girl.

He educated his friends concerning American involvment in Viet Nam, he protested and then he reached out and brought a child who was orphaned and gave her a beatiful home in California, a great education and she now has a great career in the medical field.

American's and Canadian's historically reach out and help the poor, oppressed and the uneducated.

Even if our government screws up the people still have good hearts.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation
NATO is comprised of 28 States, not just the US and Canada.

Every country in the world has its good and bad points. Every single one.

Making boastful claims about one, or two countries, just comes across as arrogance.

You have to acknowledge the world. We're a global community now.

Spoken like a true NWO advocate. I don't think there is anything wrong with expressing your love of country.

Edited to add: What elitist or elitist organization has told you that we are a global community now? Or are you referring to this site?

See whether you like it or not, we are a global community now. No country can act alone, Global terrorism, global financial meltdown, global trade. All global, that require global institutions. We may not like the way these organisations work, but they exist.

I think JK Rowling put it quite well when explaining to harvard graduates how the US is in the world:
Youtube Link
Your nationality sets you apart. ... You belong to the world’s only remaining superpower. The way you vote, the way you live, the way you protest, the pressure you bring to bear on your government, has an impact way beyond your borders. That is your privilege, and your burden.

If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of people whose reality you have helped change.

This is why many people find it infuriating if Americans don't know much of the world. We are all within the US's power and influence, the successful and the oppressed.

We conquered both Europe and the Pacific after WW2. Russia did the same.

Wha? Then why in the hell aren't they paying taxes to us since we and Russia lord over them. Damn Europeans *shakes fist*

All countries under the thumb of the US prospered. Japan became a economic power house with the Japanese people largely given freedom even after they ruthlessly killed millions of American and Canadian boys.

Hate to say it again but...what? Japan wasn't hurtin at the start of WW2, what makes you think they wouldn't bounce back? That country was already on the comeup. They never killed millions of Americans, even the Germans didn't kill that many. We couldn't take the island without heavy casualties so Truman nuked them all. Men, women, children, dogs, cats, it didn't matter. They were the enemy and all should die!!...how's that for love and war?

Haiti prospered to eh? And the Domician Republic, as well as Cuba. We've been bitchin Cuba around since the missle crisis. Those countries are in our backyard, within our sphere of influence so...

West Germany prospered as well becoming a European economic powerhouse. And then with the help of the CIA and the American Goverment Germany was united less then a generation after President John F. Kennedy said that we are all Berliner's.

The wall came down because of weapons, particularly The Persian missile system. I'm getting this info from an american that was assigned to it and was in Germany when the wall came down. It was great. It's surprising at how fast a country "come out" when it's allowed too.

China was given trading status with the US after Kissinger laid out negotiations with Chairman Mau.

That was going to happen regardless. After their ill fated cultural revolution the chinese looked at the world stage with a unified voice. Say what you want, but the Chinese work the book on warfare. The Art of War is relevant today.

The US and Canada have given the world the gift of flight, the gifts of computing, telecommunications, Nuclear energy, space travel, rock and roll, blues, jazz and the film industry.

I agree..but it's mostly americans that listen to the american types of music.

The US and Canada adopted far reaching human rights fighting slavery, child labor, oppression of women, oppression of gay persons, oppression of those who have radical ideas (free speech) and the list goes on and on

Huh? So womens suffrage and civil rights protests was greeted was open arms. Hell there are STILL discrepancies going on between men and women pay. Yea, were so tolerant of homesexuals that we have to ask straight people if gay people can get married. And they still say NO!

Farm and agriculture production was developed here and the technology has been exported throughout the world.

I need examples for that one, goin off the top of my dome i disagree. Yea we make kickass farming equipment but that's as far as it goes. I think the dust bowl disqualifies us for that.

The ATS community needs to continue to Deny Ignorance and rightfully acknowledge that both the US and Canada (NATO) have been a force for good in this world bringing hope to the oppressed.

HELL no..NATO is one the many troubles wrong with this world. Go ask them africans what they think of NATO and their blue helmets.

I get where your coming from...and i feel ya...but your saying the US and Canada are responsible for so much, what about Mexico?

I am merely pointing out an agenda that has been on going for a long time. We will keep hearing about Global this and Global that until we've accepted what the main goal is. Globalization and a one world government. Our national identity is being slowly but surely phased out to make way for a Global community.

You don't believe me? That's ok. Every successful national awareness campaign that has made a difference has always been long in achieving its goal. Look at Global warming. How long have we been hearing about it and seeing the polar bears floating on a tiny piece of ice? They play our emotions toward their goals. Would anyone argue the gay agenda? How long has that one been crammed down our throats?

These are just examples and not an attempt to derail the thread. I am staying on topic with how I feel about the whole mess.

Thats is the best map ever!!!!!

I know you yanks like to think you "conquered" Europe, but in reality it was the allies. Sure, you provided much needed assistance, but it wasnt just Americans fighting in case you didnt know.

The brits, us Australians, New Zealand, the Russians and the French resistance all played critical parts in pushing back Hitlers armies. Also, in the south pacific, you guys would havent had as much success if our guys werent there as well.

To suggest that "you" won the war, shows a total lack of respect for other countries in my opinion

I just have one query for the American members regarding the war, do you think you would you have become involved if Japan hadnt attacked?

On the topic of rights, the USA is still one iof the countries far behind almost the entire European continent. You still have the Ku Klux Klan and other racists and religious zealots (just like any other country for that matter)

Farming and agriculture production was not developed in the USA. I dont know where you got that idea? Egypt, India, China and the middle east were producing and selling crops far before America was even discovered. In fact it was something around 21,000 years before.

Also, before I get labelled as a "yank hater", I think you guys have given the world some great things....I just dont think you guys are the centre of the universe as some of you might think.

I really hope this thread is because you have too much pride in your country and not ignorance to the entire history of the rest of the world. I respect America, and the people of America, (for the good stuff they have brought us) but to suggest that the US is the only country doing all this stuff is kind of arrogant.

Apologies if I offended, but thats how I see it

Wow such a mess of responses. So I'm gonna have to correct a few things. Just let me adjust my tin-hat

1. After WWII Japan was in trouble. Two atomic bombs and months of fire bombing, somehow I think Japan was not going to rebuild without help.

2. Haiti was a French issue not a US one. They pretty much screwed the Haitian's over not the US.

3. I agree with your assessment of China. They are the next up and coming Nation.

4. Why is it in many countries American music is popular? {even if it is twenty years back}

5. Yea the US may be a tad a arrogant about woman's rights and civil rights, but considering how the rest of the world dealt with both issues we were one of the first. Gay rights to marriage is a joke since marriage was a religious creation. I mean they are so open to homosexuality in the middle east fight?

6. The farming was the same methods used "back home" in Europe and we had to learn a bitter lesson to try and not let that happen again. So far so good on that. Plus I might add we used to make good farming equipment now we hardly make anything in the states.

7. Now the blue helmets are the UN not NATO. The UN is the biggest farce going. Just look at the last administration Koffi Annon{?} oil far food scandal ring any bells? Just look at what countries have been in charge of human rights!
