Islamabad (AsiaNews) - Because of the threats posed by the powerful Lahore Bar Association – an umbrella organization of city lawyers - no Christian or Muslim lawyer is ready to take on the defence in the murder of 12 year-old Shazia Bashir, it was reported yesterday by The Pakistani Christian association that deals with legal assistance.

The girl, of Christian faith, died on Jan. 23 as a result of violence - even sexual – at the hands of her employer, a wealthy and powerful Muslim lawyer in Lahore. The alleged murderess, Chaudhry Mohammad Naeem, is a former president of the Lahore Hi

This is pure insanity. The lawyers of the accused are enraged by whoever defends the victim. Something's wrong here, right? Judging from the picture in the news, the lawyers of the accused are enraged at the defenders of the murdered child.

Why are the lawyers using threats to defend the accused? Why aren't they in the courtroom? Is it simply due to the child's Christian faith or are they going to get a piece of the pie from the accused. Heck, everything in this scenario is so sick and wrong that it's borderline ludicrous.

There's something absurdly wrong here.

It's incredibly wrong but all too common that people use their religion as a validation of their wicked actions. After all, once you believe your god is on your side anything goes. How incredibly sad.

This is the sort of news that makes me happy to live in the U.S. if this is true. Our justice system might not be perfect and there might be some corruption from time to time, but nothing like this.

Surely this cannot be true. What justice system would allow that to go on? If this is true it makes me wonder that even if there was a trial how much of a chance the girls side would have.

Before everyone starts Islam bashing they should realise that this has got nothing to do with religion.It's corruption at the core of the system.

The lawyers have all their pockets lined up along the accused.We still don't know the details.

Just another example that someone on here will agree with. I'm sure the islam ain't bad folks will be all over this one. It'll start out with it being taken out of context, and end up with we don't understand them. These men are scum, deserve death, or worse, and yet......someone here will defend them. These sob's will get their way......a fear inducing religion of peace that deals in death, what a joke!

So exactly who is to blame and why?

I suggest it is the teachings of Islam which demands that Muslims must defend fellow Muslims at all costs and that this takes priority when dealing with Kaffirs, regardless of right of wrong.

No, it has a lot to do with religion. It also has much to do with corruption. I'm certainly not going to "bash Islam" but I'm not going to pretend that religion isn't a component in this travesty.

You win the prize. Radical anything, be it religion or any belief, can be a whole lot of crazy, that's crazy spelled d...a...n...g...e...r...o...u...s. Now whether or not plain old fashioned corruption played a roll as well is a question to be answered.

Religious bigotry, combined with greed and corruption is a horrible combination.

I would ask those of you who are condemning this...and it should be...to recall, if you can, that not all Muslims are doing this, or any of the other acts of atrocity that occur under the banner of Islam.
