Yeah I've noticed that, I am a regular lucid dreamer myself and yes it does indeed knock your sleeping patterns out of whack. The way I see it, it's a matter of your spirit/soul dictating when it needs to do it's chores, rather than the body saying it needs to wake up and sleep.

Interesting thought, but it sure messes with my ability function properly on some days.

My goodness... I have been waiting for some time to participate in a highbrow discussion concerning my favourite subject... the wondrous Pineal Gland.

Please, to anyone that is interested in this subject take your time and educate yourself as best you can on this phenomenon.

I believe unlocking the secrets of the Pineal Gland will be the breakthrough that takes mankind on to the next phase in evolution.

It is late for me tonight, and I find myself in a panic to share with you what I know as a non medical person about the medical facts I have discovered concerning this wonderful, wondrous subject.

I believe mankind has neglected the Pineal Gland for way too long now, whether through choice or because of a conceited plan from the so called "elite".

Why it is that religion and science has failed for so long now to educate us firmly in this major player? The implications are quite profound for those with religious beliefs and for those without.

I believe the abuse of the pineal gland is the cause of many of man’s (and woman’s) modern ills... addiction, behavioural defects, sleep defects, depression and many, many more problems we face as humans I believe are directly related to the maintenance of the pineal gland.

I will try to post some links tonight with regards to subjects I believe are key to -understanding the importance behind this thread. I pray we are the start of the revolution which has been waiting to happen for some time.

I apologise if my next few posts seem somewhat un-personalised but I do look forward to participating in a wider discussion in the following days, weeks and years.

I hope the OP will find some of my links interesting and I hope as a team we can connect the dots to this intriguing yet constant element in our life.

To everyone… Peace.

Yes, I do think it is a very long over due thread that needs to be here on ATS right now.
The pineal gland really is at the crux of the elites plan to completely close down humanities spiritual side. There is a battle going on, subtle it may seem to some, why do you think Tibet has been closed off to the rest of the world, they were going to be the leaders of the coming spiritual revolution. But now it's got even bigger than the elites could have ever expected, we have all become the leaders of our own spiritual awakening, there has been some great force that has been helping this along... just look at the amount of people questioning their reality daily! We live in very exciting times and it us, the people who will be the masters of our reality... we hold the key to the door and we shall unlock it and create our own path.

and then you read what it actually is and it isnt all that much fun as the OP's drug addled perspective:

Hormones

The pineal gland contains a number of peptides, including GnRH, TRH, and vasotocin, along with a number of important neurotransmitters such as somatostatin, norepinephrine, serotonin, and histamine. The major pineal hormone, however, is melatonin, a derivative of the amino acid tryptophan. Melatonin was first discovered because it lightens amphibian skin, an effect opposite to that of melanocyte-stimulating hormone of the anterior pituitary. Secretion of melatonin is enhanced whenever the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated. Of greater interest, however, is the fact that secretion increases soon after an animal is placed in the dark; the opposite effect takes place immediately upon exposure to light. Its major action, well documented in animals, is to block the secretion of GnRH by the hypothalamus and of gonadotropins by the pituitary. While it was long thought that a decrease in melatonin secretion heralded the onset of puberty, this hypothesis cannot be supported by studies in humans. It is possible that the pineal contains an as yet unidentified hormone that serves that function.

Melotonin is the only hormone secreted by the pineal gland. (The pineal gland is a tiny endocrine gland situated at the centre of the brain.) Melatonin was discovered in 1958 by Aaron B. Lerner and other researchers working at Yale University. Melatonin is produced in humans, other mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. It is present in very small amounts in the human body.

Melatonin was previously known to cause the skins of amphibians to blanch, but its functions in mammals remained uncertain until research discoveries in the 1970s and '80s suggested that it regulates both sleeping cycles and the hormonal changes that usher in sexual maturity during adolescence. The pineal gland's production of melatonin varies both with the time of day and with age; production of melatonin is dramatically increased during the nighttime hours and falls off during the day, and melatonin levels are much higher in children under age seven than in adolescents and are lower still in adults. Melatonin apparently acts to keep a child's body from undergoing sexual maturation, since sex hormones such as luteotropin, which play a role in the development of sexual organs, emerge only after melatonin levels have declined. This hypothesis is supported by the fact that children with tumors of the pineal gland often reach sexual maturity unusually early in life, presumably because the pineal's production of melatonin has been hampered. Melatonin also seems to play an important role in regulating sleeping cycles; test subjects injected with the hormone become sleepy, suggesting that the increased production of melatonin coincident with nightfall acts as a fundamental mechanism for making people sleepy. With dawn the pineal gland stops producing melatonin, and wakefulness and alertness ensue. The high level of melatonin production in young children may explain their tendency to sleep longer than adults.

In mammals other than humans melatonin possibly acts as a breeding and mating cue, since it is produced in greater amounts in response to the longer nights of winter and less so during summer. Animals who time their mating or breeding to coincide with favorable seasons (such as spring) may depend on melatonin production as a kind of biological clock that regulates their reproductive cycles on the basis of the length of the solar day.

BLAH BLAH BLAH it goes on and on into a miasma of BORING medical literature.....been watchin too much Re-Animator guy? I love HP Lovecraft as much a sthe next guy...but come on

yawn...more misinformation wrapped into a cute little film of new age BS.

I was told that all psychologists and scientists are sure of is that it has to do with sleep cycles, and possibly extra-sensory experiences; besides that, they have no idea what it's real use and importance is.

Another interesting fact about the pineal gland; it is actually, physically your third eye! It has some structures that are extremely similar to the cones and rods in your eyes that let you see; so much so that some studies have shown that the pineal gland is actually light-sensitive; some vertebrae even had alterations to their cardiac rhythms when their pineal gland was exposed to light.

In my experience as a lucid dreamer of many years, it is during my sleep cycles that I get most of my spiritual work done. I've even given various lessons to others in my lucid dreams, aswell as receiving many! Now from a psychological point of view it would be said that it is the mind that is creating such experiences, however I think it is a mix of both the mind crearting experiences aswell as external stimulus coming in and helping the mind along.

With regards to lower vertibrates they do indeed have pineal glands and guess what some even use their pineal gland as their main sensory organ! In us humans we would have originally used our third eye for our main visual stimulus (in my opinion) and it is through our evolution throught the eons that were have developed more brain matter, an optic nerver and eyes as we became more dependant on physical stimulai (touch etc) and we gradually lost our pineal gland as our way of seeing the world. Having said this many ancient cultures accessed our higher faculties and it is modern man and our modern world of materialism that has made it a forgotten part pf ourselves. People are seeing that there is more to us than flesh and blood and our pineal gland is kicking back in as a result.
