You mean after all that trouble they went through to help orphans, they high tail it out of there as soon as the judge lets them free? What a surprise. Too bad Laura and her live in nanny have to stick behind.

"The group was in the Dominican Republic to remodel a hotel as an orphanage before entering Haiti, correct?

"Yes, we were there two days. I don't think she (group leader Laura Silsby) had ever seen it. Through the help of somebody there they located the facility for her. She knew what it was supposed to be but never laid eyes on it. We saw it for the first time, assessed it and got it ready."

This is an interview with Mr Allen, one of the freed Haitian Ten. He comments above on the DR orphanage. I guess it did exist.

"What did the group do at that point?

"They told us you need to stay here tonight. Park the bus up here. It's secure and in the morning we'll take you where you need to go. And that's exactly what happened. They opened the gate. We pulled the bus up there. Everybody got off, and we ate. We laid the children out on the ground because they were all exhausted. The adults, some of us slept, some of us cared for the little ones."

Something bad obviously happened the next morning?

"The next morning just as we expected we all got back on the bus, and we were escorted back into Port-au-Prince to the place we assumed to get the documentation we needed. They told us to get off, and put us into a hallway and a little bitty room in the back. They said for us to stay right there.

"It was some kind of government building because there were reporters out there and government officials were meeting. The kids were crying. Then they took Laura Silsby into a room where she was questioned and we assumed we were getting paperwork. This went on for hours and hours. It was a tough time with the kids. Basically, it was. 'How long does this take?'

That must have been a shocking wake up call when they all got hauled off to jail.

Parents: All Haitian 'orphans' had relatives
Updated: Feb 21, 2010 2:04 AM EST

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (AP) - Not one of the 33 children a U.S. Baptist group tried to remove from Haiti is an orphan, The Associated Press has learned.

During a visit Saturday to a rubble-riddled slum where 13 of the children lived, residents told the AP that each one of the youngsters was given away by a parent or close relative.

Their testimony echoes that of residents in the mountain town of Callabas, outside the capital of Port-au-Prince.

Parents there told the AP on Feb. 3 that desperation and blind faith led them to hand over 20 children to the religious Americans who promised them a better life.

That contradicts statements from the missionaries' jailed leader, Laura Silsby, who has said all of the children were orphans or came from distant relatives.

Looks like Laura Silsby is the only one of the Haitian Ten left in Haiti in prison. The article says the judge is having her claims of the Dom Rep orphanage vetted before Laura gets out.

www.cnn.com...

"Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Charisa Coulter, one of two American missionaries detained for more than a month in Haiti on suspicion of kidnapping 33 children after January 12's devastating earthquake, was released Monday."

"Saint-Vil said that he has some additional questions that he needs answered but that he expects to make a decision about Silsby's detention by the end of the week.

Silsby originally claimed that the children were orphaned or abandoned, but CNN determined that more than 20 of them had at least one living parent. Some parents said they placed their children in Silsby's care because that was the only way they knew to ensure a better quality of life for them.

The group said it was going to house the children in a converted hotel in the Dominican Republic and later move them to an orphanage.

After he released eight members of the group last month, Saint-Vil traveled to the Dominican Republic to see where Silsby said she intended to open the orphanage."

I wonder how long Laura Silsby will have to stay in jail.

I knew all of these people would head home as soon as they were released verses staying and helping.

Yes and we now know more about Hillary Clinton's connection to this woman, and of course her connection with Haiti.

A scapegoat for what/whom exactly ?

Thanks for laying out the details of the story .

This was a very pertinent question back in 2010. Six years later we may be getting an answer.
