I suffered my entire life from heartburn(even as a little kid), eventually in my late teens I started cutting out anything that caused me problems. A few months ago I was doing some research and found that every thing that caused me digestive problems contained MSG. Recently I haven't been able to eat anything over a dollar because of money problems (I'm leaching the bandwidth for this post). To no surprise every thing I can a ford contains MSG, and I have heartburn none stop. I'm not looking to make a big post, I just want to suggest to any one with digestion problems to try cutting out MSG for a month.

I had an order of chicken mole (pronounced Mo-leh, or moe-lay if yer from the South).
Well later that night I honestly thought I was having a heart attack.
Scared the living mole out of me!
Come to find later, that stuff was packed with massive amounts of MSG, so I agree with the premise of this thread.
Whew, never again.

Funny thing is i eat spicy acidic foods all the time with no problem, I down 24oz of coke with some spicy pasta, no problem at all. The worst thing for me is possessed chicken, it destroys my stomach. Mexican and Asian food is the worse. For along time I though I was allergic to beans and rice. I'm not, I just cant tolerate the massive amount of MSG that they put in these side dishes.

MSG is probably one of your causes, but there might be others. First for heartburn you can take some Apple Cider Vinegar in some water and sip it while you eat. It should help a great deal. I use 2 tablespoons to about 8 to 12 oz of water and sip about half the jar (I mix it in a small mayonaisse jar) per meal. Get the Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother" in it. It will say that on it. It means it is full of all the enzymes.
Next, if you've had the hearburn since childhood, you might have a hiatal hernia. That's where the stomach gets stuck up into the diaphragm a little. Try this exercise to pull it out.
Lay on your left side (on your left side of your bed also), then take your right leg and drop it over the side of the bed (it acts as an anchor to keep your lower half on your side), then turn your upper body towards the right and lay it as flat against the bed as you can. Stay this way and relax for several minutes. It could take awhile so be patient. You might start to hear some gurgling as your stomach pulls out of the diaphragm and you might feel it pull also. Anyway, stay this way for a while, and you will probably have to do this often for awhile until the diaphragm closes up some.
Eventually, if it is a hiatal hernia causing your problem, this exercise should really help - which will help your heartburn as the stomach will be able to close properly to keep the acids down since its not pulled funny into the diaphragm.
This link goes to a Dr. Theodore Baroody who has a book there called Hiatal Hernia Syndrome - and it's full of helpful information.
Blessings.

If MSG is poison, than that bottle of wine I drank is poison too. Since they are products of fermentation.

"According to some MSG opponents the glutamate added to foods is "bad" and the natural glutamate in our bodies is "good". MSG sellers argue that MSG is exactly like the glutamate in the human body, therefore it must always be "good". It is not so simple. There are contaminants in processed MSG. An anology that can be used is that there are right-handed amino acids and left handed ones. They are like mirror images of each other. Processed MSG contains not only the kind of amino acids the body is used to handling, but mirror image ones too."

In my honest opinion, MSG looks like the nicer/safer of "food additives" out there right now. Probably because it is close to natural.
Compare this one to all of this other junk that is highly artificial (synthesized).
When you eat 1 thing you are probably ingesting dozens of additives. Which any of them could make you sick or harm you, and then in the countless various combinations any weird type of chemical reactions could occur and create even more complex byproducts.
What I am saying is that just going after MSG appears to be a mistake. There are bigger culprits and far more dangerous additives found in just about everything.
No I am being serious, click on this link.

Take a glance at a list of some of the additives that are in virtually all of our food.
I don't think there is any way to avoid all of this stuff, unless you have your own farm.
I also have no clue how many of you are "so sure" it was MSG in the first place. It could have been a combination of all kinds of things. None of you did a actual scientific study to prove it was for sure the cause, did you? I am skeptical.
