This winter storm comes just in time for Super Bowl weekend. My Saints are in it for the first time!!! Hell is surely freezing over, as you can see. Stay warm everyone! Down here in Louisiana we're just getting lots and lots of rain. Sorry if I went off topic, I don't post much and I know that is frowned upon here.

Interesting. They say we here in MA won't see much snow- which is odd in itself. We happen to have only gotten 13 inches total so far, and that's our normal amount for just the month of December.

We here in N(ew)E(ngland) [(hopefully)] are prepared for lots of snow, but I worry- because this winter has been mild, and people seem to forget how to drive after warm spells

cjcord,

I hear ya... I'm in NH, and we have barely anything on the ground. Very unusual for up here this time of year.

We had a few cold nights that produced a lot of ice on the roads, but it seems like people aren't paying attention to the roads once "weather" hits... too busy on the phone, I guess...

Stay warm!

Northern New England has gotten relatyively little this year, which is odd, though Virginia has been slammed pretty much week after week though most of this winter season so far.

Gotta love that El Nino effect.

Sigh ...

This is what happened last month in DC:

They say it will be the same starting tomorrow afternoon.

The earth is pissed!

Those DC pictures look like the greater Seattle-Tacoma area last year. This year we have had one small dusting that melted pretty much immediately. One weatherman last night said something to the effect that Seattle hasn't even had frost in something like 30 days! Highly unusual for us.

edited to add: He actually blogged that Seattle has not had a freezing night in 35 days!

Hmm. Missed again. sigh. No sledding this weekend.

The storm threat for Friday night and Saturday (small as it was) has diminished even more. The maps have gone back and fourth on whether the northern edge of the storm reaches western Massachusetts. The latest data is farther south again and most data keeps the snow from even reaching the New York City area. I will keep it dry except for some possible flurries Saturday morning as the storm makes its closest pass to our south. If traveling south in I-95 this weekend, expect some big problems in the Mid-Atlantic region where over a foot of snow is expected.

It doesn't work like that - despite old wive's tales

Nonetheless, looking increasingly likely we'll see cold weather move in from the east next week, with a good chance of significant snowfall in places

Edit: that's significant by UK standards - so think 1 or 2 inches at low levels. Enough to bring the country to a halt. Again!

Thanks for the 'heads up' about the coming storm! I live in an area of Northern Ontario that should have had several feet of snow by now, but has had only a couple of feet in total for the winter season so far. Our winters are always cold, but this one has been much colder, and for longer periods. Warm weather is forecast for the next two or three days, however, with temperatures climbing all the way up to zero degrees Farenheight. If anyone happens across this global warming crap, please send some up this way.

Last week we had 7 inches that just finished melting today (normal accumulations spots) due to the rain. It has now turned to snow they are calling for 1-2 inches this time around. Last week they started with 1-2 then moved it up to 4-6.

Either way I hope it is enough to get my car out in, it loves the stuff. I have not seen this much snow in years and I am loving it.

I am in Missouri by the way.

Erm, not for nothing but ... it's really really bad over here ...

Thunder snow, blizzard, 2 feet of snow outside, huge power outages, and at least another eight hours of this to go.

Looks (not sure yet) that this might be the worst snow storm in recorded history in the DC area.

AND another storm predicted for Tue/Wed ...

I'm going to try and take some pics in a bit but I'm sure it's on the news anyway ... I have to get a snorkle for the bulldog so she can go out ... kidding but not really.

Well we ended up with less than half an inch.

There is more storms coming Monday and Tuesday, maybe they will drop a bit more for us here.

Two feet might be a bit much; my car would mostly slide across that and act as a plow. Now a foot would not be bad. Sure I would have some plow action going on but not as bad as two feet.

Stay safe and stay warm.

Nice in a way. That much snow would certainly build up in front of my car and cause me to get stuck, at least until I moved it I guess.

Looks like you are in for staying home for a few days, at least it is the weekend. Hopefully by the beginning of the week they will have it where people can get around again.

For some reason, I have been avoiding TV and the news etc. so when I awoke this morning to snow cover I was surprised. It rained all day yesterday, I should have heeded this thread!

Not much of a snow here, unfortunately (I love snow when the shelves are stocked, the beer is laid in and I am laid off, rofl!!).

Pix!!

Out my window, my parking lot and car bumper, bush.

My CAR! Covered, maybe an inch??

Across the way.
