Hackers may have done this, but it could also be an inside job. The Gore gangster crowd who are of course in the carbon trading credit business, get
someone to steal the credits. The stolen credits then become used by those that would use such credits as those who would use money to influence or
pay for various products. In the underground these credits can then be used to bribe, influence or pay for various things.
It is the basis of a good money laundry service for large amounts of illegal money or a new system for paying for drugs or arms.
What no one has grasped is that carbon credits are made up and have a value once created or stolen as in this case. The ability to use millions or
billions in credits implies a serious need and a insider understanding of what those credits could do once obtained.
Carbon credits I believe will be the new manner in which to launder illicit funds for the elite that understand that a collapse of the financial
system would have no bearing on a carbon credit because they would have value all over the world.

Like the article states, credit cards are boring now. One of the new frontiers for hackers is cashing in on climate change opportunities. The techniques are old (phishing) but still obviously very lucrative. I would think this would be a difficult item to sell off as the credits must have some type of ownership attached to them, perhaps not. With billions being dumped into the panic and uncertainty that is climate change, it was only a matter of time. Should credits just be removed outright? This gives new meaning to going green

Credit card numbers are so passe. Today’s hackers know the real powerhouse data to steal is emission certificates.
That’s exactly what hackers went after last week when they obtained unauthorized access to online accounts where companies maintain their carbon credits, according to the German newspaper Der Spiegel.
The hackers launched a targeted phishing attack against employees of numerous companies in Europe, New Zealand and Japan, which appeared to come from the German Emissions Trading Authority. The workers were told that their companies needed to re-register their accounts with the Authority, where carbon credits and transactions are recorded.
When workers entered their credentials into a bogus web page linked in the e-mail, the hackers were able to hi-jack the credentials to access the companies’ Trading Authority accounts and transfer their carbon credits to two other accounts controlled by the hackers.
