When I graduated from HS in 1972, the Vietnam war was still waging and the national draft was still in effect. I was as nervous as a russian looking for his lost vodka bottle at the prospect of being drafted on my 18th BD. Many of my friends already drafted were writing me of the nightmare associated with of my closest friends did not make it back alive.

Two weeks from my BD, the draft ended. At the time I couldn't have been more elated. I saw myself as one of the lucky ones.

Being happy about the draft coming to an end did not take away from the fact that I would have done my part, if requested, to serve my country and possibly die for a war that was frought with political madness and needless confrontation. Me being afraid to die was irrelevant.

America is certainly not without political fault, but I would today, if requested, take a stand against any enemy of my country even if it meant taking a defensive position in my backyard. Why? Simply to defend what my country has given me in my freedom.

Needless drivel, Ill..... What I wanna know is, how did we go from draft dodgers to your foolish racist talks? Didn't happen till you posted, and even then, people are still trying to get through with JM's original topic. To those people, I salute. Very good "stay-on-topic" skills*applauds*

As for you, I wonder why you even changed the subject? Do you have such a need to express your anti-racist talks that you go and change the topic of a thread? Or is it that you are so stupid that you can't keep your mind on one thing at a time? Either way.... Please Ill, listen to people when they say "Shaddap and stay on the subject."

If you have such a desire to say "racists suck", then be a good boy and just post an anti-racist thread. Jesus...

how did we get from a draft subject to a racial subject?

I'll tell you it wasn't me.

It was those ignorant people like Thomas saying something about Islamic freedoms, and of course someone like TC has no idea what he's talking about when he goes off talking about Islam so me being me I defended Islam.

That's how we got to this, so don't blame it me.

Dragon rider, don't ever talk to me about personal responbilities because you have NO idea what I've been through and the responsibilities I hold.

No it was you. Your comments caused us to go into a fight over racism.

Please do tell....

And, I have to agree, the subject of racism didn't come up until your post....

Illmatic, just one more question, and I'll leave it alone... I noticed that someone finally ponied up and voted to be a coward and avoid the draft.... There has certainly been others who expressed similar, albeit more restrained points of view to yours, therefore I will not make assumptions, but ask straighforwardly: How did you vote?

posted on Mar, 2 2003 @ 06:43 PM
No, I didn't vote . I didn't vote because I'm not a "coward" avoiding a draft.. If I avoid I draft it's because I have my own beliefs and I'm no coward, that's why I didnt vote.

I'm not going to spread my personal life on the internet, sorry.

Do you think a coward knows he is a coward? He usually has some pathetic excuse, an excuse similar to yours Illm.

It's nice to see such a lopsided response, I just hope they stick to their guns(no pun intented) when and if it is crunch time.

ill, just to let you know, the proper authorities have been notified of your comments. That is all, have a nice day.

I'm English, and have health issues that mean I couldn't be drafted, so I'm not going to have to make that decision.

I have to say the language in which the poll is phrased is very biased. Not going to war does not make one a coward. During the Blitz in England many conscientious objectors were assigned to rescue work and fire crews- not safe or cushy by any means, and not coward's work.

If I had to make that decision now, I'd be conscientiously objecting, because I will not take part in a war I believe is wrong. This doesn't mean I'm a coward. Propose a war to get the occupying Chinese out of Tibet, and I'll volunteer. I don't agree with this war and won't fight it.

I would fight if I felt my wife or I in direct danger. I'm a dual citizen, dad german, mom american. While I've lived a good portion of my life in the US and here as well it's hard to say. I dont think they'd take me if the Draft were re-enstated. With prior how should I a medical impairment and terrible vision, they wouldnt take me. I love the US and it's people, but again I wouldnt fight unless I felt I or my wife, or our future children were in direct and immediate danger.

I would have to put other...I was inlisted as an automated logistical specialist. (They said I was too tall to be a fighter pilot
). However I probably have the shortest enlistment ever. 3 weeks before I was to ship off to basic I was sparring in a karate tourney and took a round kick to the back of my neck (Kick that is banned in most sparring competitions). Fractured my vertebre (Number 7). It healed and I am fine but I wasn't allowed in with that type of injury. So I guess I have one of the shortest stints you can have and still get an honorable discharge.
However if a war did break out and it made it to American soil, Army or not I'd fight to the death to save my family and friends.
Be Cool

yay finally. Took long enough for someone to realize he's a racist pig.

Oh, Ill, if you haven't been banned yet, please don't try to say "I'm a racist? You fool, you're a racist." Cause a) I have no problem with blacks or Muslims or whatever, it's the fools like you in those races that make 'em look bad, and b) anyone who doesn't like you is automatically branded racist for some strange reason, so just shut your mouth and keep to your "other guns" as was put.

uhh went i said proper authorities i didnt mean moderators. I meant government agencies who would like to know if somone is making comments about killing US soldiers etc. Ill, have fun when the gov is knocking at your door. You shouldnt have made those comments my man, you will pay dearly now.

dude, the proper authorities should regulate everyone who is even posting on this kind of website the name itself is anti-governmental in its own way.

I'm not going to say it more- I am not a racist.

I have asian, hispanic, black and white friends

if you think I'm racist, that's your opinion and your entitled to it.

I will be like Muhammad Ali. Believe in your faith. And my faith tells me NOT to fight against any being. So yes, as you put it I'm a "draft dodger".

very good point cata

I don't believe in the killing of any man who has done nothing to me

those people, even though some people dont like them, are fathers to little children and those little children have fathers

I don't believe you have the right to kill anyone, even in the military... they're not my enemy because they havent hurt me or my familiy in the physical.

from Ill67:
how could you say that?? you think the black man's problem in America was just brought upon us from out of air? poof, it's there by some genie? how do we plague this country? indeed your right when some blacks do turn everything to a race war and I like you wish they would shut the hell up... but in MOST of the cases it is indeed a race war.. we're not living in the 60's but sometimes it does feel that way. you wanna talk about a plague? let's talk about the plague you and your white brethen still has their confederacy flags in government places such as courts in the deep south, because that's a grade one plague here in America.

jedi, I know whites are not the only racists here in the country... but indeed the worst types of racists are the white people, and you CANNOT deny that... how many cases have you heard in american history of a black, hispanic, or asian lynching a white man? not that many right? and who were this ancestors of yours who were enslaved?

I'm a whitey... because I told you to grow up and face the real world without racial divisiveness?

I'm actually of mixed race if that actually matters at all!!
My late mother was American Indian from Kansas and my father is a black man from Missouri. African American, Negro, Bro, whatever silly moniker you'd like to label him with, but if you ask him he'll respond the same way everytime... "I'm an American".

As for me I refer to myself as an American as well, I took no preferential treatment for schooling, or obtaining work, or in the census. Due to my straight hair from my Mom I pass as just about anything I want but I've never tried to hide my identity either. Thats one of the reasons I like Vin Diesel, for his own desire to keep them all guessing too!!

But one thing I can say is that everything I have, I've earned myself, and of all the things I've done in my life, that is what I'm most proud of.

All my black friends question my alligence but my loyalties can only be earned not given via birth color.
That and I married a white blonde woman. You should have seen the look on her dads family from Kentucky when I showed up with her for the family reunion in Lexington!! What a friggin' hoot man!!! She made me promise not to go ghetto on em, but damn it was tempting!!!

Move on, have fun, enjoy life. It's far to short to stoop to the level of small minded people!!
