Byrd, I truly hope you're right. Though it is a scary prospect to think that all Americans of "Arabic" descent could be rounded up and put into detainment camps. Remember what happened to the Japanese during WW2?

Have you read the Patriot act..? That is exactly why it was written ...so when they announce after marshall law that cash will no longer exist to take money out of the hands of terrorists and everyone will have to take a microchip into there biology ....so if you protest against this heinous policy you can be locked away with no due process or civil rights and labeled a terrorist....

and people think the patriot act is a good thing.....they dont even know the first thing about it.....

Martial law is simply a mechanism that says troops can be sent in if an area is having problems. Such problems could be related to weather, riots, or accidents or terroist incidents.

It isn't maintained because it's not possible to maintain it for long periods of time.

That is true Byrd ....But what if sometihing comes along that makes 9/11 look like a date with little mary sunshine..? Say multiple explosions in multiple cities (nuclear suitcases)....then you will see marshall law applied as it never has been in the past....especially if you start talking deaths in the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands.....

Just to expand slightly on your quote, which is very true. The ones that are involved in passing it look at themselves as above this law....so what if they find the error of their ways and stand on the platform against this after martial law in the extreem has happened.. will they still be above the law or rounded up like the citizens they just earlier gave no regards to?..

Has anyone noticed the recent media blitz to promote the Patriot Act . People are calling those against the Act un patriotic and cowards. Those are some of the words being used in some of the Wisconsin Congress races and people just have no clue what they have signed up for. Everyone knows that or government is so corrupt but they do not think anyone would dare use this against honest Americans!! Would they?

Of course within, that is the best method for the Government to engineer the enemy/problem, in today's age. In the most extreme case is when I think martial law will be placed. A new cycle of a nazi type Government is coming into play, this time they include multi-culturism in the Government. There is better technology, America had trained Nazi scientists.

In the most extreme, martial law will happen, that is only if people go crazy against the Government when the next terror attack happens. If the majority believe what the Government tells them and the people stay calm, they won't need to be put into camps.

Just believe the Government when they say the terror attack was from this terrorist group in this so-and-so country. If everybody doesn't, well, martial law will happen.

The patriot act opened the way for martial law. A police state is just a major terror event away.

The Patriot Act II hasn't been passed yet and Martial Law will not come any time soon, at least in 2004.

Technically, The United States has been under Martial Law since the Civil War but let's pretend otherwise.

Bush is gone, that is it- he's out, it's clear to see.

Bush couldn't open a hot dog stand right now, he's presidency is going down the drain.

It doesn't matter of event happens before the elections, he will not be re-elected.

Say we find Osama bin Laden before the elections, that will raise a lot of eyebrows especially in light of Fahrenheit 9/11.

The same with another "terrorist" attack on American soil. People will just blame Bush for it.

People in America are not dumb.. well some of them aren't.

Martial Law, if enacted by the election, will spiral this country into an economic collapse and perhaps even a Civil War.

John Kerry already won the election, that is why there won't be Martial Law in 2004, maybe 2005.

Fighting back will only get you killed. Why would you fight? Martial law is declared on cities or areas devastated by some event. Like byrd said, it'd be impossible to put the whole country under martial law, the US is WAY to big and has WAY to many people, and doesn't have nearly enough troops. It'd be impossible to control over any sustained period of time.

Martial Law will go into effect if HILLARY (God Forbid) gets into the White House. She's a power crazy loon with an evil agenda. G.W. wouldn't
declare martial law unless an asteroid fell on Manhatten or something, and it was necessary. Hillary would do it just because she could.

martial law is always associated changes that involve the power structure of governence without input of those governed, not good!

Well, here in Canada we live with this sort of question all the time, for the legislative machinery to effect exactly what you are talking about has been in place for at least my lifetime (+/- 30 tee hee).

But we're already so close to a communist, autocratic dictatorship that the election we just had is simply a polite fiction, like all elections.

Anyhoo, the answer is that there are young adults like yourself that are concerned with the issues you raised (pardon the paraphrasing above).

The problem is twofold: young people are distrated easily, and without having had time to develop a context, how are they to know whether the messages thay are receiving from their parents and society are false?

I have been educating myself and trying to learn as much as I can for about eighteen years, and compared to my peers, I am in great shape. I actually know something about what is going on, as near as I can tell. At the very least, I know that there is a question, and that seems to be the hardest part.

You are not alone, just isolated. Isn't that a cheerful thought?

RE: martial law. Several months ago, our local news radio station interviewed the Arizona Homeland Security Head. The host asked him what would occur if we went from say, an Orange Alert, to a Red Alert. I can't find a transcript of what he said, but I do remember and can paraphrase it. He said , "You really don't want to know. Let me put it this way...all people, who do not stay inside their homes, will be considered to be dangerous."
With that, the host kind of let out a big sigh, and said...."GEEZZZ."
So, I assumed that meant RED ALERT would mean martial law.
I can very, very easily picture a scenario as laid out by several OP's. If there were several major terrorist events, particularly a chem/bio/nuke type, the government would clamp down so fast and hard that our heads would be spinning. Of course, it would all be for "our safety". That's a darn scarey scenario and it's very plausible.
For some reason, I have been convinced the govt. is gearing up to declare martial law. It's more a "feeling" than something based totally on facts (although there are plenty of facts to support that feeling).
So, does anyone know exactly what a RED ALERT, nationwide, would actually entail?
