“I've met God across his long walnut desk with his diplomas hanging on the wall behind him, and God asks me, "Why?" Why did I cause so much pain? Didn't I realize that each of us is a sacred, unique snowflake of special unique specialness? Can't I see how we're all manifestations of love? I look at God behind his desk, taking notes on a pad, but God's got this all wrong. We are not special. We are not crap or trash, either. We just are. We just are, and what happens just happens. And God says, "No, that's not right." Yeah. Well. Whatever. You can't teach God anything.” - Chuck Palahniuk

"Confine yourself to the present."

"Too much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product ... if we should judge America by that - counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for those who break them. It counts the destruction of our redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and the cost of a nuclear warhead, and armored cars for police who fight riots in our streets. It counts Whitman's rifle and Speck's knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

"Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans."

Robert F. Kennedy

I really like those a lot, thanks for sharing them.

I specifically liked the Nikola Tesla one, never heard it before but I feel the synchronicity between that quote and myself.

Hi I plan on comming back and reading all the posts ..I have this one that speaks volumes
Sogoyewapha, "Red Jacket" - Senaca

Brother, you say there is but one way to worship and serve the Great Spirit. If there is but one religion, why do you white people differ so much about it? Why not all agreed, as you can all read the Book?

^^I think the problem is (just replying to your quote here) is perception; since we all view things differently we can each read the same thing, every single person in the world could, and odds are a percentage will agree on this and that and some will be undecided or confused... it's just how things work, and it's what makes us human - that ability to think, and reason. But above all, our ability to differ from other human beings is what makes us, us.

Anyway good Oscar Wilde quote (well I like all of them so I'll keep sharing them)...

"Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday."

The trite saying that honesty is the best policy has met with the just criticism that honesty is not policy. The real honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy.

The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.

The fight for justice against corruption is never easy. It never has been and never will be. It exacts a toll on our self, our families, our friends, and especially our children. In the end, I believe, as in my case, the price we pay is well worth holding on to our dignity.

I've found this largely true. Of course, this means that the internet must be the pinnacle of civilization.

Been a while since I posted in my own thread... but here are some good quotes I wanted to share

"When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That's my religion.? ~Abraham Lincoln

"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." ~James D. Miles

"Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give life a meaning." ~ Jean-Paul Sartre

"A person will not change until the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of change."

I hope to see you all keep this thread alive even if I'm busy and not bumping it up & posting more quotes. I promise I will if you all keep it afloat as well

The reason I started this thread was because it worked out so well on another site, and that site has to archive the first thread because it hit 1000 posts and is now well into the 2nd thread -- I wouldn't mind seeing the same happen here, and I'd like to upload the other thread in text format for you all sometime soon when I get a chance to reconfigure it for uploading purposes.

If anyone is interested in such a thing please let me know that way I'll see there is some people interested in having a down-loadable thread full of quotes
