Can a white person ever have indigenous rights anywhere?
I've landed on some websights that are too "right" for comfort. On the other hand, they pose a really good question: take the British descendants in their own country, shouldn't they also be protected by the UN Charter of Indigenous Peoples, shouldn't they also be granted exclusive land rights?
Are white people "indigenous" nowhere?
Isn't that racism, conspiracy and albi-phobia?

I would say it's just another double standard, as always...I wouldn't put it past the UN to grant all kinds of rights even though they are often ok with genociding the indigenous. I say, live your life, educate yourself until you die, and don't let race hold you back.

No, I don't think so. If you follow it ALL the way back...seeing as how we all originated in Africa....hence we were all darker at some point in time.

I guess white people could claim some parts of Europe, if they were the "first" to get there...Norway? Sweden?

We really need to get past the indigenous argument though and try to get along with everyone who's here now.

I don't know about other countries, but the "indigenous" white people in England have very limited rights, if any at all. For a start the EU has "regionalised" England, with the agreement of Parliament. You don't even get the option to put "English" on any official form, it is "white British"

How about lets stop blaming whitey for everything? how about that?

Not entirely true. The whole regionalisation thing has more or less died a death, no one wants the regional quangos the Government proposed.

The EU regional map is purely an administrative thing and you'll find they have done the same to all countries over a certain size, as you can't lump huge regions together that have different needs. It's how they allocate money.

As for the forms, just tick "other" and put English. It's what I do. You can do that on most offical forms and certainly can do it on the Census.

So modern indigenous rights should depend on one theory that everyone was equally dark at a stage? Thats a commonality which actually furthers the argument that we should all have the same rights.
Especially in Finland and parts of Scandinavia there are issues with the reindeer-herding tribes, who are considered "indigenous". But these are small minorities, and I'm not sure on their current status.
But you're saying that some Europeans do deserve "indigenous" status? Sure we must all get along, but then "forgetting" indigenous status should count for everybody, everywehre by that argument.

Perhaps there should be a timeframe stamped onto it...aka, if you were here 500 years ago, your the indiginous people of the area...or 20 years...or erm...hmm...damn good question.

It is commonly accepted that western europe and russia = white people land (until you hit the equator anyhow)...but a philosophical case can be made for anything, to include white people can rightfully claim Africa if you go back far enough.

My question is what is 'indigenous' and by what percent? I'm at least 12.5 % Wampanoag...and that's verifiable. Does it count for anything by your definition?

I was born here in my country... my father is British, my mother is a first generation New Zealander whos parents came from Britain and Germany. This country is my home, I dont know Britain or Germany as anything other than just a part of my family history.

Im just as indigenous to my country as the Maori next door who was born here too... whos ancestors arrived in our country from their previous homeland across the ocean about 900 years ago.

Im white and im an Indigenous New Zealander (regardless of what some individuals would argue), along with being an Indigenous earthling. Your indigenous to what ever country you where born in and made from its soil, its got jack all to do with skin color or who was where ever 'first'.

As other have said if you take that to heart... we're all indigenous to everywhere anyway, so why even think about. Unfortunately some people see opportunities to gain from lumping some people into groups with different rights to their own group. Hardly conductive to a civil society.

Heck, some Maori here currently are trying to gain indigenous rights to the airwaves since they claim the medium the radio waves travel through belongs to them... the world is screwed i tell ya, 5 thousand years or so and we're still for the most part thinking like cavemen on some issues.

Edit:- heres the real crux... if I aint 'indigenous' and am someday forced to go back to my ancestors homelands because of it thanks to extremists... what does that make me to the people of my ancestral homelands?.. im nothing but a foreigner to them effectively, so basically id be home-landless in that situation like every other 'invading' white that gets kicked out for not being a 'first people' simply based on my skin color and ancestory.

another thing.... what IS 'indiginous' ?? .. I think it's not what people think it is.. because it cannot be proven concretely without a time machine and video camera.

so if it's the first people there....
then ... since the first people from Earth (we know of) to go to the moon were white does that make white people indigenous to the moon????
