The war in Afghanistan, which will soon involve a hundred thousand American troops, merited barely a paragraph. There was no mention of victory over the enemy, just a reiteration of the president’s pledge to begin a withdrawal in July 2011. Needless to say there was nothing in the speech about the importance of international alliances, and no recognition whatsoever of the sacrifices made by Great Britain and other NATO allies alongside the United States on the battlefields of Afghanistan. For Barack Obama the Special Relationship means nothing, and tonight’s address further confirmed this

The war on terror was hardly mentioned, national security was overlooked, getting tough on terrorists, prosecution not protecting terrorists, naming our enemy was never mentioned!

"Significantly, the global war against al-Qaeda was hardly mentioned, and there were no measures outlined to enhance US security at a time of mounting threats from Islamist terrorists."

Threats have been made by Al Queda to many Western countries and especially the US which the Obama Administration continues to ignore!

Unfortunately Obama doesn't get it!

clearly he left most cheering for him, thinking they had just heard words of encourgement, strength, unity, freedom, health, and jobs are important!!!! It is what he did not say that leaves one with a bad taste.

That's right , it doesn't . And there is no mention of it anymore because it has a brand new name , the Overseas Contingency Operation . These english don't keep up with the times , this whole war endeavour has to have a fluid definition . For when the old excuses run out . They must have thought they were really chasing terrorists all this time ? duh.

No need to worry about what he says anyway , he is like an english version of john bolton , some uk pseudo-neocon dinosaur affiliated with the US heritage foundation.

Look what he says in his next article , titled "I’m glad Bush and Blair liberated Iraq" :

It's because the threat doesn't exist.

The fact is that Al Qaeda and similar factions are indeed alive and well in many ME countries. MOF the cell in Yemen claimed responsibility for the panty bomber and may be training many more.

Thanks to the efforts of the US, England and other Western countries these factions have been largely ineffective since 9/11. It's hard to conduct the business of terrorism under the threat of Hellfire missiles.

Under the policies of the present Administration it is easy to imagine that another major terrorism event is eminent.
