I could only describe his speech as flippant, rude, and scathing. He still managed to lay the blame at the feet of George W, despite implementing his economic plan one year ago.

Like every president in the last thirty years, he's an empty shell. A smiling joker with no real substance. He pandered to both sides of the aisle, but maintained his liberal core by continuing to push ideas that most of America do not want!

Although I hope he is not, I can conceive Obama being the last president of the United States of America. This is a Nation without a rudder. A ship adrift in an ocean of lies and deceit.

God, who or whatever you are, help us!

The REAL?
State of the Union?

There is nothing real about it and judging by the responses to the OP including the OP it looks as if you all are still trapped in a LIE that you think is real.
Representative form of Government
Of the people for the people
Election process
2 party system with a precarious libetarian 3rd party
Laws designed to protect us all
Liberals vs Conservatives
Al Qaida is a real Islamic terrorist group that hates the west. Oh wait....its the Taliban now isnt it?
We have the best nation in the whole wide world.
My president is better than yours///damn liberals...liberal that, liberal this, liberal that..and on and on and on
The President is the highest office in the land and he really does make the decisions. Funny little lies we continue to play yet wonder why it wont change for the better.

The one thing that really disturbed me about his State of the Union Address tonight on TV was seeing the Faces of those in attendence that were close to the podium in the first few rows of seats . I got this very odd impression that they were all playing a part in a choregraphed play , and their sheepish like looks on some of their faces reminded me of some kind of Cult Members listening to the " Word " of their Savior with baited breath . Another odd sight was the Republicans seated towards the back of the Hall sometimes Snickering at him with this very Evil look in some of their eyes . These are the people we elected to Rule us ? No wonder this Country is in such a Mess right now .............Sigh . ........

I noticed this also. I totally agree with you. I could also see right through Obama's facade. I think most of his speech was a lie like when he said “To close that credibility gap we must take action on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to end the outsized influence of lobbyists; to do our work openly; and to give our people the government they deserve.

“That’s what I came to Washington to do. That’s why – for the first time in history – my Administration posts our White House visitors online. And that’s why we’ve excluded lobbyists from policy-making jobs or seats on federal boards and commissions.”

He has nothing but loobyists working for him! Here is the list
www.redstate.com...

Does he think the American people are to stupid to realize this? And his job bill is only an extension of his stimulis bill as shown in this link.
hotair.com...

I actually was nauseated sitting here and listening to him. It made me sick to watch mostly the Democrats cheer at almost everything he said. They are all so brainwashed! They should have been happy since I bet they all have good jobs and aren't wondering where their next meal is coming from. I am out of work and have been since 2007. I built new homes for twenty years until then, for the white collar upper class. Nothing he said last night will help me and I really doubt if he wants to. He just wants everybody to believe that he wants to help us. He's a liar and things are going to get even worse before he gets out of office in my opinion!!

The fact that he stated the number 300 million suggests that this was either intentional or just a random number. But when I remember the fact that there is a culling limit to the Bilderbergs of fewer than 500 million people around the world I find through my best forensics in decrypting coded fallacies that he was indeed not addressing the nation as a hole but instead only addressing a population of elitist

There are 300 million people in the US. It's just a number. People say this every day. No one will be culled.

Presidents should go back to the tradition (Broken by Woodrow Wilson) of delivering the State of the Union in written form to the Joint Session of Congress so it can be placed into the Journal. Today, these are nothing but stump speeches. (Today meaning last 50 or more years.)

Overall the speech had little to do about the State of the Union and much ado about agenda. The speech was too long. I enjoy vision, but vision without substance or attainable goals is just a dream.

How about this...instead of picking apart the speech I will muster up my own State of the Union....

REVISED TEXT

What Obama would have said if honest...

Madame Speaker, Vice President Biden, Members of Congress, distinguished guests, and fellow Americans:

It's tempting to look back on these moments and assume that filling our pockets was inevitable - that America was always destined to turn to greed. But when the Union was turned back at Bull Run and the Allies first landed at Omaha Beach, a big invoice was very much in doubt. When civil rights marchers crashed the market and Black Tuesday was beaten by Bloody Sunday, a fat profit was anything but certain. These were times that tested the courage of our convictions, and the strength of our union, and we flunked it. And despite all our divisions and disagreements; our hesitations and our fears prevailed, because America chose to move forward into another one nation called Iraq.

Again, we are tested. And again, we must answer booty's call.

One year ago, I took office and two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt followed. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted and immediately and aggressively depression sure enough followed. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed and we now look forward to the hurricane to follow.

But the devastation remains. One in ten Americans still cannot count and nor can the other 95%. shuttered. Moral values have declined. Small towns and rural communities have shuttered. Many Wall Street bonuses have been hit especially hard. For those who had already known poverty, I have brought that much worse.

My election has also compounded the burdens that America's families have been dealing with for decades - the burden of working harder and longer for higher taxes to pay for the retirement bonuses of bankers and to help their kids with college.

So I know the anxieties that are out there right now. They're not new. These struggles are the reason I ran for President, so my family can live well at your expense. These struggles are what I've witnessed for years in places like Wall Street. I hear about them in the letters from Banks CEO’s that I read each night. The toughest to read are those written by children - asking why they can’t go to Disney World, or when their mom or dad will be able to go back to rehab.

For these Americans and so many others, change has not come fast enough and so I shall seek to accelerate the pain as much as possible. Some are frustrated; some are angry. They don't understand why it seems like bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded but hard work on Main Street isn't; or why Washington has been unable or unwilling to solve any of our problems. Well, in a simple few words, you elected me – that’s why. They are tired of the partisanship and the shouting and the pettiness – so I have, today, instructed the Attorney General to gag all such folk. We know we can't afford it, but we’ll stick them the bill anyhow.

So we face big and difficult challenges. And what the American people hope - what they deserve – is my impeachment – well, tough tittie on that one folks. For all of us, Democrats and Republicans, we’re on the gravy train and we ain’t getting’ off. To work through our differences; to overcome the numbing weight of our politics is nothing but a pipedream of the infantile. For while the people who sent us here have different backgrounds, different stories and different beliefs, the tax bill they face are the same, just as bit bigger. The aspirations they hold can’t be shared as they are the copyright material of News International. A job that pays the bills. A chance to get ahead. Most of all, the ability to give their children a better life – dream on, suckers..

You know what else they share? They share the experience of a stubborn operator in the face of achievement whenever they call the bank. After one of the most difficult years in hstory, our kids can look forward to worse as your parents resort to starting a prison term and going back to loan sharks. They're coaching little sneaks amongst your neighbors. As one woman from Goldman Sachs wrote me, "We are stained but filth rich, struggling to pay for the new ranch but encouraged by big bonuses."

And our agreement with the liquor industry? It is because of this spirit - this great decent drop of gin and great and strong - that I have never been more happy in the bathtub playing Mr.One-Eye hides his helmet. About America's future” Who cares tonight. Despite our hardships, it’s going to get worse. We do not give up. We do not quit - because we already have. We do not allow fear or division – just break me open another case of hard spirits. In this new decade, it's time the American people get a government that matches their decency; that embodies their strength, but, I’m afraid – fat chance!

And tonight, I'd like to talk about how together, we can deliver on that promise to the bin at the corner of my desk.

It begins with our economy…and pretty much ends there too.

Our most urgent task upon taking office was to shoot up with some stuff the banks sent round, the same stuff they were sniffing when they organised the subprime fiasco. It was not easy to do. And if there's one thing that has unified Democrats and Republicans, it's that we all hated being called to account. I hated it. You hated it. And now I am I am about as popular as a root canal.

But when I ran for President, I promised I wouldn't just do what was popular - I would do what was necessary. And wow, did you all fall for it! And if we had allowed the meltdown of the financial system, unemployment in Wall Street might be double what it is today. More scam artists would certainly have closed.

So I supported the last administration's efforts to create the financial rescue program, a nicely scripted one that has now been serialized on Fox. And when you look at the program, we all make fat royalties says my accountant.

As a result, the markets are now bloated, and we have recovered most of the money you spent on the banks.

To recover the rest, I have proposed a $10 fee on the biggest banks. I know Wall Street isn't keen on this idea, but if these firms can afford to hand out big bonuses again, they can afford a modest $10 fee to pay back the taxpayers who rescued them over the next 327,000,000 years.

REVISED TEXT (Part two)

As we stabilized the financial system, we also took steps to get our spin growing again, save as many banking jobs as possible, billed to Americans who had become unemployed.

Let me repeat: we cut taxes by borrowing from China. We cut taxes for 95% of working families by borrowing from China. We cut taxes for small businesses by borrowing from China. We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers by borrowing from China. We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children by borrowing from China. We cut taxes for 280 million Americans still paying for college by borrowing from China. As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on porn, and other trivia, all of which helped businesses hire more illegal immigrants. And we haven't raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person. Not a single dime as the debt mountain spirals.

Because of the steps I took, there are about two million Americans working right now alongside about 60 million illegal immigrants who would otherwise be unemployed. 200,000 work in construction and clean energy and 300,000 are in demolition and dirt energy.. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, and tax men, all snatching for your hard earned wage packet.. And we are on track to add another one and a half million jobs to this total by the end of the year.

The plan that has made all of this possible, from the tax cuts for bankers, also known as the Stimulus Bill. Economists on the far left and the far right say that this bill has helped saved the jobs of many a congressman. But you don't have to take their word for it.

Talk to the debt collector in Phoenix that will triple its workforce because of the Recovery Act.

Talk to the Bank CEO in Philadelphia who said he used to be skeptical about the Recovery Act, until he had to add two more bonus cheques to his account just because of the phony assets it created.

Talk to the single tax man raising two court writs an hour who was told by her principal in the last week that because of the Recovery Act, she wouldn't be laid off after all.

Obama just tells people what they want to hear, Tony Blair was a master of this and unfortunately people think this is what makes a good politician. But actions speak louder than words. I'm not sure what their strategy is because they seem to have done a quick U-turn right at the point when the stock markets may do a U-turn and start trending down again. Are they trying to cover their backs so when it comes crashing down they can say well we did what you wanted us to do and now look at it.

Meh, I don't like it when people quote so damn much.

I don't like it at all.

We need to stop useless threads that simply reiterates articles and videos.

My opinion:

I see a stunning correlation between the "behavior" of the people at the SoU and the people at speeches by single party rulers.

10 secs of speech, clap clap clap, 10 secs speech, clap clap, 10 secs speech, pelosi gets teary.

Another thing I noticed was how Pelosi and others around Obama nodded everytime Obama finishes a sentence. It seems almost as if they were thinking "good, good, you got it right, nice work Obama, good job, you are a good and convincing speaker."

You are correct, in part. If I choose not to purchase Health Care Insurance, I will be subject to a penalty equal to 2.5% of my income. In other words, the legislation mandates that I buy a specific product from a private company against my will, or I will be penalized. Second, if I refuse to pay the 2.5% penalty on income, I will be subject to fines of up to $250,000 and 5 years in prison. While the penalty for non-compliance to the 2.5% tax hit is not eluded to directly in the legislation, it is in fact accurate when applied to tax laws.

This is "forced capitalism". I ask you, if we can be forced to buy a product from a private company through legislation as it concerns insurance, what products will we be forced to buy against our will from other private companies through future legislation.

My apologies for jumping into the thread a bit late. Kudos for posting the REAL words of the speech, instead of an interpretation.

Here of some of my issues from last night's speech: (not in any particular order)

1. Spending Freeze
Forgetting the actual ramifications of such a freeze, my biggest issues were that it won't start until 2011 -- which means it was thrown in there to sound good, but should have been included in NEXT year's speech since it does nothing for this year whatsoever. Also, the mere fact that this freeze won't take place until then means we are in for even more spending. Some of which has come to light today. Lastly, he is not freezing anything of substance. The truth is that freezing staffers' pay is not going to fix the deficit. It's a mere penny comparatively -- so this whole bit about freezing meant nothing but sound bites that would be received well.

2. Supreme Court Ruling
I personally don't agree with the ruling, HOWEVER, for a President to say that he is going to send a bill to Congress in order to override the court's ruling is not how the US works. While some may have found it refreshing to have such a candid response of discontent for a President, I find it down right scary. When we have a President that is going to try to find ways to reverse the ruling -- or override by means of bill passage or executive order -- we have some serious beginnings to NOT adhering to the Constitution. As soon as we begin to erode the very structure of checks and balances in our judicial system, we get farther and farther away from democracy and closer to "the court's ruling stands so long as the President agrees."

3. Bi-partisanship
I thought he handled this aspect of the speech fairly well. It's true that if Republicans are just going to vote "NO" on anything brought forth by the Democrats -- and vice-versa -- we will be paying them to do nothing and accomplish nothing for at least another year and so long as no party holds the Senate majority. I thought he spoke directly to Republicans -- finally acknowledging that they exist within his government -- and perhaps that might be enough to grow some support.

4. Blame Game
He is now President. What has been spent, passed, started, expanded, lost, and unaccounted for has happened on his watch -- whether he wants to admit it or not. I for one would have been happier to see his stop with the "I walked into this disaster" bit yet again. The time for that has passed. Everybody knows what happened in the last ten years. It's time for him to take ownership of this country and his presidency and I don't feel that he has done that.

5. Lobbyists
This one outraged me. He may have passed a law banning lobbyists -- but at the same time he granted waivers to those he wanted to hire that ARE and WERE lobbyists. So again -- he passed a law banning it and then whenever he deems it necessary simply waives HIS OWN law. I find that incredibly deceitful on a number of levels and wish that more people would take a stand against this sort of practice. All he has done is passed a law that the PEOPLE wanted and then overrides it whenever it's convenient apparently hoping we are too stupid to realize it. Sorry -- he lost TONS of points with me on this one. It's not as if it was even some other President's law -- it was HIS law and the least he could do is follow it.

6. Priorities
The mere fact that his agenda for the coming year has not really changed very much from last year's agenda is the most telling. He is going to focus on jobs, the economy, and healthcare. Much like he said last year at this same time. He again, in my opinion, is not streamlined enough in his approach to fixing the US. He was very vague about how -- he threw out numbers that can't be backed up for job creation -- and once again he is tauting construction, rail, and expansion. The only difference is that he finally dropped the term "shovel-ready". We were supposed to have these same types of jobs within months of his speech last year -- energy, tech, science, and construction he said in 2009. There is no reason to believe he can deliver now when he was unable to deliver the first time he said it.

7. Global Economy
This part I kind of liked and found myself silently rooting "go USA!". I think we need a huge morale booster right now. I think people need to remember what the US is capable of -- not we are now. I was very pleased with his acknowledgement that China, India are growing and so can we -- and that the United States should not settle for second place. He didn't seem to have a very sound approach as to how we are going to stay on top -- but the fact that he claims to want us there and was willing to dismiss China and make it clear we would not sit back and watch them grow and take more and more of our money was promising. I also like his comments regarding fair trade agreements and his willingness to ensure that everybody's following the same rules. I was wondering -- given the enormous amount of debt owed to China -- whether he would take such a strong approach and I was happy to see he did.

There's way more that I could have touched on, but those are probably my key comments.

As one final note however, the speech means nothing. Rhetoric does nothing. I'd like to see him actually DO something beneficial for the PEOPLE of the US. Further, I don't know who these 95% of Americans with more money in their pockets thanks to him are -- but I am certainly not one of them. Are the rest of you? Can I possibly be the only one in the 5% bracket?

Bail on the banks!

This speech perpetuates the myth that our federal government works for us.
The camera panned and displayed the most corrupt group of individuals in the WORLD. Pathetic liars, yes men and women, thirsting for more power.
The surest way to turn your brain into mush, tempting A.D.D. to inflict you, is to be subjected to a SOTU in contemporary America. If a word of truth was actually spoken, the audience would gasp in horror...stunned into silence, their carefully molded reality shattered as if they awoke from a dream.
But, fear not, the script was skillfully read, and the actor executed the required facial expressions flawlessly,
and the myth lives on.

I'm saying that Obama is simply a tool. To the elites, he is an easily manipulated and disposable black president. What he says has absolutely no bearing on what he will do. Hold on, let me rephrase that: What he says is the exact opposite of what he would do.

So this Moron wants to take 30 billion of OUR tax dollars that the banks gave us back as a partial repayment for Tarp funds, Then GIVE IT RIGHT BACK TO THE F------ BANKS SO THEY CAN GIVE US SMALL BUSINESS LOANS.

This is out of control. The SBA is run by the BANKS and they have full control of the loans.

SO NOW THAT THE BANKS SUPPOSEDLY GIVE US SOME OF OUR MONEY BACK AND HE HANDS IT RIGHT BACK TO THEM.

I'm calling on some brave U.S. Generals to please put America back on track by removing these crooks.
