Spartacus-Blood and sand!

Having loved Rome! I was really interested to see this quite similar series being made, especially since Rome only ran for two seasons it left a big hole for me!

So as it's not over here yet(uk) I watched it from the net, and I have to say, it's filling the hole pretty damn good so far! and i'm only on episode 2 can't wait till friday!

The gore/fight scenes in it are great, very 300 like, which is fine by me! and it has a little Rome feel about too, it's like Rome,300, and Gladiotor all mixed up with a lower budget! just really likng this so far

So anyone else catch it? and how are you enjoying it? if at all!

Oh and it has Xena in it still as hot as when I was a kid!

As a fellow ROME fan, I watched the pilot of Sparty Blood & Sand also.

IMHO,

it's more 300 than ROME, very little plot and more violence and slow motion gore.
Theres no Politics where as ROME had the politics of the Caesar vs The Senate and in domestic it was portrayed brilliantly by the conflict of Attia and Servilia.

Sparticus has a limited plot , he is going to be Crucified at teh end of series sheven, eventually, but ROME had a Grand canvas that, unfortunately, the budget did not allow.

I too am a fan of ROME and was very sad to see it go. I loved the political aspects and sadly I see none of it with 'Blood and Sand' but i'll keep watching and give it a fair shake.

The only thing about ROME that bugged me was they didn't explore Caesar enough! He was brilliant his entire life and the character deserved a lot more, IMHO.

Still enjoying it myself, I never expected it to have the politics of Rome or be as big! but it is what it is fight scenes are great! blood is great! an hour well spent every week!

How do you know he will be crucified? I thought he died in battle?

Spartacus' body was never found. It is recorded that he died in battle. There is no record of him being crucified. However, 6000 of his followers were crucified and subsequently staked along the Appian Way, left there to rot as a deterrent to any other would be rebellious slaves.

For me, the show has too much of a comic book feel to it. Like when the blood splashes up during fights. Personally, I like things a bit more realistic.

Still loving the series so far!!! though I thought Spartacus finding out about his wife and the way she died was a little soon imo, would have liked to see the relationship between him and Batiatus develop a little more so it come as even more of a blow to Spartacus!

I just keep wondering how it will all play out. There really isn't much in the details of Spartacus' life other than the major events which the show hasn't even started to get into yet so I suppose they can keep this story line going for some time before getting into the big stuff.

I haven't mentioned what the major events are in case someone reading this thread hasn't read his history and wants to be surprised

Yeah I do hope they drag it out, I don't want it to end! easily likeable characters imo, even the bitchy ones

Interesting to see if they develop the story with spartacus and ilithyia, maybe a romance? I know that sounds like the last thing that would happen but you never know, it's such a weird relationship I think they could be planning something because she's such a bitch to him? I dunno....think I just like the idea in my head more than anything

Well I seen the final episode! sad that it's ended but wow I loved that episode....so much blood!

Seeing Batiatus finally get it was great and his bitch of a wife! I would have liked there deaths to be more brutal though, in a sick way

So they are out on the run now to the mountains! series 2 will be called Vengeance! really can't wait.....spartacus has a new love interest maybe? and the romans are gonna have there hands full!

His wife may not be dead. the last time they showed her, she was slightly moving her arm towards Batiatus' corpse.

I suspect that she will somehow survive. Maybe saved by Ilithia (so she can be used as a pawn). Also, we have that coward, Asher...grrrr I wanted to see him die by Crixus hands, alas we must wait another year +.

I loved how Xena got back at that blond bimbo, even though it blew up in her face.

My only problem with this series, besides the computer generated blood which is cool yet cheesy, it that it's a little homo erotic. Too many dudes in loin cloths. So far I've had 2 homo erotic dreams that I attribute to watching this show.
