KJ - I read your response in the Obama "gays in the military" thread - - and highly respect your opinions.

I have not been in the military - - but have worked various jobs in different levels. One incident - - I was grabbed pulled into a store room and was molested to a point - - but he wanted consent - - which I did not give.

At the age of 63 I experienced before the women's lib movement of the 60s/70s - - and after. Seriously I was once threatened with firing because I had a run in my nylons.

Women - and ONLY Women - can make themselves equal. Allowing man/society/attitudes - - and Yes! Even other women - to interfere with that equality is not acceptable.

Sorry have to go - continue later.

Very well, and thank you. The respect is mutual.

I look forward to discussing things in more depth when you have more time.

Until then...

Peace

There is so much wrong with this post I have no where to start.

Everything from the base up is wrong.

However, it is enlightening of what is going on in the heads of people who are apologists for bad behaviour.

There is a difference between having bad things happen to you for no reason, having bad things happen to you for a reason, or putting yourself in a situation where bad things are likely to happen. I do NOT condone one person harming another, but I will have less sympathy for a person that places themselves in a situation that significantly increases their chance to be harmed.

For example, say I go with a friend to watch the soccer, and we sit in an area surrounded by enemy fans. Now imagine that my friend taunts them whenever one of their team's players misses a goal. He screams right into their faces "You guys suck! You are pathetic! Go home and beat the traffic!" Let's say he does this over and over. Eventually they ask him to stop doing this but he continues. Towards the end of the match the enemy fans snap and one of them punches my friend in the face and breaks his nose. Sure, punching him and resorting to violence was wrong, but I would be stupid to think my friend didn't bring it upon himself. By me saying this, does it mean I condone people being punched in the face? No, it does not.

You don't have the OPTION of rape. Even if you do it to the enemy, the fact is that you leave behind a trail of problems in the civilian populce that has impact which comes back to bite you in the ass. You aren't a terrorist organization with a loose structure. You're one of the few large scale armies on the planet, attached to a government and a people with international interests of all types. Most of which are harmed by such undisciplined expectations.

If there is no option, then how does rape occur? There are good and evil people in the world, and there are good people who do bad things and bad people that do good things. Free Will. There is no metaphysical field protecting people from getting raped whether they live in a democracy or a Terrorist Camp. If the opportunity arises, the act will occur. Laws and rules are placed on society for a reason.

Rules and regulations are meant to be put in place to deter undesirable/anti-social behaviour, but they cannot stop the behaviour. Many instances of harm could be avoided if the potential victim shows precaution and awareness before they find themselves in a situation where they are vulnerable.

Oh good.

Well, I happen to be quite attractive.

Shall I stop enticing men with my lovely hair and big boobs, so that I am not encouraging you guys to rape me in public? You know, because I should KNOW better, and know that you cannot help yourself?

Shall I stop dressing nice, get fat, and put on a burqua? I wouldn't want to cause you to have to break the law or your own standards of ethics by wandering around outside without an escort that makes it clear that I am not available to your inability to control yourself.

Well, since Islam is defined by the Koran I can only find few references to manners in dressing. Here are some quotes from en.wikipedia.org...

“ Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. ”
— Qur'an [24:30]

“ And say that the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms ... ”
— Qur'an [24:31]

“ O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not harassed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful. ”
— Qur'an [33:59]

Fascinating - I didn't say anything about Islam.

However, there appears to be several 100s of millions of people who seem to not agree with your interpretation.

And of those, I've actually seen Imams and Mullahs lecturing on how women with their hair showing are evil tempresses who are our of their place and undermining the spirituality of good men with their stray hairs floating about.

And even if you ignore that, I note that you conveniently ignore the underlying assumptions of the rest of this post that I am using to make fun of a certain mind set. Probably because, you actually have that as your underlying mental filter about genders and therefore it doesn't trigger you to notice that anything is essentially wrong with it.

Actually, I have NOT provided you with my interpretation! LOL, it seems that you too have interpreted the Koran in a non-extreme fashion.

All I provided were some verses from the Koran which refer to dressing manners in response to your "Western women dressing manners" vs. "Muslim women dressing manners" implicitly implied by your post (pretty big boobs vs. fat burqas).

I know Millions that don't dress like your stereotypical, media indoctrinated view but that would require you raising your head out of that hole you have dug for yourself.

Governments and establishments in these so called Muslim countries have been bought and paid off by western corporations. So I wouldn't go around believing so called Imams like a brainwashed little girl until you get a grip of reality.

No need to wear a burqua but showing some modesty would be a good idea. Anybody can dress in stylish, fashionable clothes without looking like a slut. What message are you sending when you wear clothes that clearly emphasise and expose your assets? And that goes for men too. I don't see why men should walk around topless in public. Most of them are doing it to draw attention to themselves and not simply to escape the heat.

Do you really think it's such a bad idea for men and women to dress more modestly in general? That does not mean either needs to walk around like ninjas, but just cover up areas that are likely to draw attention for the wrong reasons.
