I am currently practicing and perfecting breaking down my weapon of choice completely, blindfolded, and then reassembling.

Planning on making a video and uploading in the near future.

Is this a necessary skill or am I just nuts

Ever thought about it or can you already do it?

I can easily do this with Springfield XD.

It has to be one of the easiest firearms

to field strip. Not a problem with its three

main parts. Now for my other two firearms,

the Walther P22 and P99, its not gonna happen

Would not even be worth the headache.

Other than giving you intimate understanding and knowledge of function, what scenario would you ever be doing it in?

Actaully, it is a good skill to aquire. Why leave it at that. Try moving around your house/bugout location in the dark. Try carrying out everyday chores in the dark. You never know when you may need that skill.

Additionally, practice moving around outside without the aid of a lamp. The darker the night the better. You will be surprised how well it will aid you.

In my oppinion, any skill that you can practice may give you some benefit in the future. Is it likely that you'll ever have to do this? Probably not, but if such an occation should arrise. Then you will be prepared.

Your not going nuts, but i suspect there could be more relavent skills that you could focus your time on perfecting. Perhaps making a weapon from scratch out of things that you may find in certain situations.

After only a year of owning my AR-15 I can break it down, clean it, and put it back together without even thinking about it. I think it is a good skill to have but not really necessary. Unless the sun disappears or there are no candles and you absolutely need to clean it right then and there, but most modern guns do not need to be cleaned in an emergency situation. I have used my gun and put it away without cleaning it many times and then just picked it up and shot it. On numerous hunting excursions I have gotten it completely submerged and dirty and not been able to clean it for days and it still worked well. It is a great skill but in my opinion not necessary. However, you are not a nut for honing your skills. I would call that PROFESSIONAL!

Carry two. If the crap has truly hit the fan, you are not going to have a chance to disassemble your weapon to clear a jam. Holster or sling it and pull a secondary weapon. You can clear it later, if you survive.

Necessary? perhaps not. Are you nuts? Absolutely not. Of course what good is a pistol in complete darkness? If you can't see to strip it you can't see to shoot either in all probability.
Do you have a tac light, laser or night vision?
Maybe those are more important questions to be asking.

If you own a weapon and cannot dis and re assemble it blindfolded your not completely trained to utilize your protection. Sure it may not be necessary but why not learn it. Not only will doing it blindfolded help you if you are ever in a conflict at night, overall it will make you that much more comfortable, say you get into a jam and need a quick weapon check, you will be that much more comfortable in a tight spot, while someone who hasn't practiced might be bumbling around wasting precious seconds. When it comes to protection for life/death situations just be prepared. Reminds me of sparring and repetition in martial arts, the point of it is to be comfortable so you can control yourself while in the heat of the moment.

Keep to the same caliber on the second weapon so that you don't have to carry twice the weight in ammo and if both weapons are of the same make then your clips will work in both and again this will save weight! In these times this knowledge is an acceptable talent which should impress your mate that you love them as you are willing to protect them. Better demo of love than flowers!!!!!

When the # hits the fan everyone without a gun will be dialing 911 and you have only yourself to protect your loved ones and yourself!!!

Another thought for you to purchase reloading kit with bullets, primers and powder because one day you might not be able to purchase reloads!!!!

I think it would be an awesome skill to have if owned a gun myself. However I prefer the bow and bladed weapons. Protecting yourself in the dark is always unpleasant, so the more you can do blindfolded the better. There is a way to see in the dark without special equipment, but it wouldn't be ideal for combat. There is a mushroom you can eat that will dilate your eyes to a point at which you can walk in to a forest and see very clearly...the downfall is that you are on a trip, which would most likely be a trip to meet your maker if you were in combat.

Yes and no. For survival purposes why would your gun not be assembeled? I know you would have to take it apart for cleaning but then why would you be cleaning your gun in the dark?

I would rather be able to do it than not if it someday helps me. How about you?
