Yes but that was after the propaganda funded by the insurance industry, first the push the Obama care as socialism branding Obama a socialist for trying to control them, then they vilified public option that actually would have really help the needy, because it would have gotten into profit making, the misguided propaganda is just an example of things to come

Well now China and any other Nation with interest in America financially at corporate level will also have a shot at government, something that was not allowed before, foreign corporations are also persons.

The house is made up of representatives elected on a one person one vote basis. The Senate on the other hand representes the states and is therefor biased toward smaller conservative states which in turn are biased toward big busness. If America were a democracy we would let the more democratic house pass the laws. The Senate is a carryover of the days when the early leaders didn't really trust the people to run the country and hedged their bets by letting the states have their very own body. The senate is antiquated be
cause it is not representative of the people and should either changed to a system of electing Senators by one person one vote or be dissolved.

All this is going to do is raise the amount of propaganda we will see on our televisions, internet, and billboards. If the people continue to believe what they see and hear instead of getting the facts then this is indeed a bad thing. There will be campaign "posters" on coffee cups, receipts, to go boxes, flyers in products, internet pop-ups, images on the bottom of your tv screen, etc. You will walk into a mall past a lcd screen telling you to vote for so and so. I can't wait. lol

No matter what kind of laws or rulings come down, the elections are already bought and paid for. Do you think this Supreme court ruling changes anything.?? Just a minor inconvience.

But untill congress takes away the vote, all the money in the world can't stop mad voters from trying to put their favorite man in office. massachusetts proved that. Americans will just have to look for the best man themselves. They can do it with the right motivation, like a depression, and high unemployment. Americans have typically voted their pocket books over and over. if the Dems can't straighten up the economy, they'll be voted out. it's plain as day what they're doing isn't working. What kind of dumbass worries about healthcare when no one has a job to pay for it??? That just shows the arrogance of those people. They are totally out of touch.

I don't see the problem here. The left have had there right to free speech around election time "given exceptions" for years now. (Unions, MSM etc..) Now that the playing field is even of course the left is going to squeal!! What makes GE'S opinion (owner of many media outlets) legal and GM'S opinion illegal? I think this was a good call by the supreme's and I applaud it. _javascript:icon('

I got bad feelings about this but unions and so forth have been doing this forever. Big money has been funneled through front groups.

This maybe good as previously posted.

Now, we'll know who supports who!

silver lining?

Wow. What a stink has been made out of this.

Any group of people should have the right to use their money to advertise for whomever they choose. It sucks, but using regulation to curb something like this has the opposite effect.

Instead of buying advertisement, they buy things like journalists, newspapers, lobbyists, and politicians themselves.

And to think that Corporate facism was was delivered by the SCOTUS; the same conservative judges that we looked to to preserve individual freedom. And coupled with this www.abovetopsecret.com...&addstar=1&on=7955470#pid7955470

The political system, or at least the illusion, as we once knew it, is dead.

Ironic.
[edit on 22-1-2010 by whaaa]

No, whaaa, this is the conservative court that was supposed to overturn RvW. This is the conservative court put in place by Republican presidents, whose base consisted of big business and religious right. (Increasingly international) corporations have succeeded, and that was all the elections the last 30 years have been about.

Ronald Reagan's campaign adviser said that democracy was an illusion. Karl Rove's cynical fifty-plus-one strategy to elect Republicans worked. The bait of guns-god-gays brought in the voters, and then the switch happened. These justices were not put in power to preserve individual freedom, but rather to make decisions such as this one.

Before 1980, citizens actually stood up to corporations ... until in the 80s they got SLAPPed -- strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP).

And unions/citizens groups vs corporations? HA! Americans since 1980 have been forced to flee from unions, as jobs went overseas or employers reorganized. To paraphrase, first they went after the unions and I did nothing (or participated in demonizing them), then they went after citizen organizations (ACORN eg) and I did nothing (or participated in demonizing them), until no one was around to stand up for me, unless I became a corporation.

And, no, Mr. Paul, we are not moving toward soft fascism ... this IS soft fascism.

The only way to counter this threat is to accomplish something never before achieved. A national boycott. Every citizen identify and disseminate information identifying the political machinations of every transnational corporate enterprise and their agenda. Every citizen must be willing to completely forgo whatever commodity any politically offensive corporation sells or service it provides.

- Soundly unrealistic? Most assuredly so.

Can we exists without the services that financial institutions provide? Can we survive as a society if we decide to suddenly stage a three-day national strike?

Could we as a culture 'behave' ourselves long enough stage such a instance of national purpose? Are we strong enough, united enough, and inter-connected enough to tell the corporate world that their time of living without a detailed and iron-clad charter is finished; that their abuses and exploitation will stop because we say so; because they have proven over the last century that they obviously cannot be trusted to be the kind of 'person' who deserved to be treated as a 'citizen?'

One has to question that functionality of the institution we trust to protect us from just such a tragic decay in in our governance; our culture.

I propose that education is the key. And we must force the government to return that institution to the hands of the people. They are killing us and crippling our children. We, I suggest, are in fact examples of what the paradigm shift in education has produced; and there are very few of us equipped to respond to the crisis in a meaningful way.

Hello, new here. Just thought I would throw in my two cents. This is a first amendment issue. All they are doing is saying that the McCain-Feingold Act is an unconstitutional law in accord with the first amendment. Has anyone here even read the SCOTUS opinions?

I mean this is not a slippery slope argument because what they are revoking did not exist before the year 2000.

Also, Grayson is definitely not a politician that can be "trusted". The guy actually sent a letter to the federal AG asking that a investigation be started on a private citizen for misrepresenting that she is in his district.

Angie Langley started a website named, "MyCongressmanIsNuts.com" and his reaction is to have a federal attorney general investigate her? And people are taking HIS side of this issue? It would seem to me that if this guy is against anything it is him against anyone exposing anything he is doing that could be shady. You can look up the case at citimedialaw_dot_org and search "Grayson v Langely.

seism

are you implying this ruling does not allow foreign corporations to have access to our politicians?

Also, individual citizens have a limit on political contributions, corporations don't under this ruling.

If the individuals in those corporations wish to support a particular candidate, they have their freedom to do so. But many corporate directors, like Union bosses, don't give two flips about the people that work under them. I had to be part of the teacher's union to be a teacher and so much of what the Union stand for is such liberal crap combined with churning out students that are nothing more than facilitating automatons.

And I'm supposed to be believe the neo-con version of fascism is safer than the liberal brand of it? lol.

I gues you have not noticed that these countries are already at work in the US. This will allow compaines that support conservatives to donate. The Dems are pretty upset about this. They do not like it when the playing field is level. They dig up the dead to do their work for them. You know, vote and donate large sums of money to the dems. Relax and lets see what happens. I am betting a lot of legal money goes to the Republicans. THANK GOD, we need to get the socialist out of there and fast. Nonnie

The US is NOT a democracy, its a republic. A democracy in full true form amounts to mob rule, a republic tempers this. The senate has exactly this purpose to temper the passions of the moment and avoid mob rule. This is why passage in the senate requires a super majority.
Mob rule by its very nature tramples the rights of the individual.

I think that either there will be little change, or deregulation will change the election process for the better. Third parties will now have more opportunity to get funded and take seats in government. There will be more publically funded debate by candidates you would otherwise never hear of. The candidates will still have to court the widest constituency they can, which includes the general public and unions. Raising money will still be an issue, the country is still roughly divided in two on certain issues. I hope that perhaps now the country will be divided into 20.

Now is the time to institute short term limits and get rid of career politicians. It costs a lot more money to get elected then to stay elected. Perhaps one-term limits would eliminate the advantages incumbents enjoy. The two party system is no longer viable; there are huge groups of which neither the dems nor the pubs fairly represent, but because of current practices, are forced into alegances with one or the other. I believe also that campaining while in office should be illegal; the practice is wasteful, and takes our representatives away from their appointed duties for excessive lengths of time. Obama traveling to Massachusetts is one example.

The more I think about it, the more I think this is the kind of change americans asked for, and needed. Of course I could be wrong, but I dont think so.

News Flash:

WE ALREADY LOST THE COUNTRY!!!!

I don't know when we lost it, but for me personally it was upon the discovery 9/11... what really happened.

I second Doomsday 2029's post! How is this going to change anything? Why is the administration packed with Goldman Sachs executives?
I love ya Grayson, but you're a tad slow son. At least he's on the right track but he missed the train

I'll "third" Doomsday... this place is done, jab a fork in it.

Start thinking bushbama-like, war = peace, dont let this go to waste. In this case bad = good... its going to make the circus more obvious and wake up more people... just think how hilarious DC is going to become.. if you still care... don't let the increase in foolishness go to waste, keep cleverly pointing it out over and over and maybe, eventually, enough people will take notice.

IMO the best we can hope for is that the vatican /freemason/ illuminati PTB GOP/DNC DC mafioso continue to drive their 2 party jalopy 100 MPH straight down unadulterated fascism avenue.. soon enough they'll cross a line even 2-party worshiping war loving surfs won't cross.
