KO Slams the "conservative right" over corporate sellout of America

Today, the Supreme Court, of Chief Justice John Roberts, in a decision that might actually have more dire implications than "Dred Scott v Sandford," declared that because of the alchemy of its 19th Century predecessors in deciding that corporations had all the rights of people, any restrictions on how these corporate-beings spend their money on political advertising, are unconstitutional.

In short, the first amendment — free speech for persons — which went into affect in 1791, applies to corporations, which were not recognized as the equivalents of persons until 1886. In short, there are now no checks on the ability of corporations or unions or other giant aggregations of power to decide our elections.

Unions are a dying breed, and republicans have been waging a war against them, even holding up the appointment of a new TSA head over fear he might allow TSA workers to vote on whether to unionize or not. So comparing the ability of a union, like UAW, Teamsters, or Local880 to fund a campaign against, say, an Exxon, or an AIG, or the Cartel of private ownership that is the FED would be a waste of time. Simply put, corporations, even those foreign-owned incorporated here, can pump election-distorting amounts of money into backing a candidate of their choice - and we know that those candidates will be nothing more than corporate SHILLs, doing the bidding of their backers.

We have that now, to a lesser degree, with corporations using PACs and fronts to funnel money to a candidate, but at least there are road blocks impeding the complete debasement of our politics, and exposure can undo some damage when it's recognized. But now? They can operate openly and we can't stop it.

Right now, you can prostitute all of the politicians some of the time, and prostitute some of the politicians all the time, but you cannot prostitute all the politicians all the time. Thanks to Chief Justice Roberts this will change. Unless this mortal blow is somehow undone, within ten years, every politician in this country will be a prostitute.

And who will speak for the little people, the average American? Corporations want to steam roll legislation that prevents them from raping this country, that stop them from sending ALL of our jobs overseas to cheap labor camps, in short corporations want total globalization for maximum profit, at the expense of our citizens. While the right demonizes Unions, keep in minf Unions still (for the most part) fight for benefits and rights for their workers.

Be prepared, then, for the reduction of taxes for the wealth, and for the corporations, and the elimination of the social safety nets for everybody else, because money spent on the poor means less money left for the corporations.

Be prepared, then, for wars sold as the "new products" which Andy Card once described them as, year-after-year, as if they were new Fox Reality Shows, because Military Industrial Complex Corporations are still corporations. Be prepared, then, for the ban on same-sex marriage, on abortion, on evolution, on separation of church and state. The most politically agitated group of citizens left are the evangelicals, throw them some red meat to feed their holier-than-thou rationalizations, and they won't care what else you do to this corporate nation.

Be prepared, then, for racial and religious profiling, because you've got to blame somebody for all the reductions in domestic spending and civil liberties, just to make sure the agitators against the United Corporate States of America are kept unheard.

Be prepared for those poor dumb manipulated bastards, the Tea Partiers, to have a glorious few years as the front men as the corporations that bankroll them slowly unroll their total control of our political system. And then be prepared to watch them be banished, maybe outlawed, when a few of the brighter ones suddenly realize that the corporations have made them the Judas Goats of American Freedom.

And be prepared, then, for the bank reforms that President Obama has just this day vowed to enable, to be rolled back by his successor purchased by the banks, with the money President Bush gave them his successor, presumably President Palin, because if you need a friendly face of fascism, you might as well get one that can wink, and if you need a tool of whichever large industries buy her first, you might as well get somebody who lives up to that word "tool."

Be prepared for the little changes, too. If there are any small towns left to take-over, Wal-Mart can now soften them up with carpet advertising for their Wal-Mart town council candidates, brought to you by Wal-Mart.

Be prepared for the Richard Mellon Scaifes to drop such inefficiencies as vanity newspapers and simply buy and install their own city governments in the Pittsburghs. Be prepared for the personally wealthy men like John Kerry to become the paupers of the Senate, or the ones like Mike Bloomberg not even surviving the primary against Halliburton's choice for Mayor of New York City.

Be prepared for the end of what you're watching now. I don't just mean me, or this program, or this network. I mean all the independent news organizations, and the propagandists like Fox for that matter, because Fox inflames people against the state, and after today's ruling, the corporations will only need a few more years of inflaming people, before the message suddenly shifts to "everything's great."

Lest you think you'll have alternate outlets, like the Internet, that circumvent corporate media control, guess again:

The Internet? Ask them about the Internet in China. Kiss net neutrality goodbye. Kiss whatever right to privacy you think you currently have, goodbye. And anyway, what are you going to complain about, if you don't even know it happened? In the new world unveiled this morning by John Roberts, who stops Rupert Murdoch from buying the Associated Press?"

Another truthism. We rely on corporate media to deliver to us the news. Will the corporate media, right or left, deliver news that impedes their goals, or impunes their reputation? Interferes with their agenda?

The Right claims this is about "free speech" - but is free speech really free when it's being sold to the highest bidder? What libertarian or ordinary citizen can go up against the extreme wealth of an Exxon, or the FED, or any of the Military-Industrial corporations, with their billions in profits every quarter. Sure, you'll still have the right to your precious free speech, but the corporate-owned media will have the right to drown you out with corporate-backed campaigns.

The Supreme Court's Non-Violent Corporate Coup

According to the New York Times, during the last election cycled, the Fortune 100 companies alone had combined revenues of $13 trillion and profits of $605 billion. A third of the Senate is up for reelection every two years. Let's say the largest corporations give an average of $10 million to each Senatorial Candidate. (Of course, to sway an election, it would be more in big states like New York, Texas and California, and less in small states Wyoming, Montana and Rhode Island.) That would be $3.3-$3.4 billion every two years. Let's say they spent another $4 billion on the Presidential election every 4 years or an average of another $1 billion a year.

For less than 1% of their profits, the 100 largest corporations would likely be able to control the Senate and the Presidency, and through that, the Supreme Court. (This doesn't even count contributions from the next 400 companies in the Fortune 500, or from slightly smaller corporations.) Good luck passing legislation to limit greenhouse gases, regulate insurance companies, or to reign in the power of the big banks.

The "conservative" sellouts:

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky called it “a monumental decision’’ that reflects “an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights of these groups by ruling that the Constitution protects their right to express themselves about political candidates and issues up until election day.’’

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele called yesterday’s ruling “an affirmation of the constitutional rights provided to Americans under the First Amendment. Free speech strengthens our democracy,’’

The critics:

President Obama blasted the ruling, saying the high court “has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans,’’

John McCain, in his 2002 law, usually called McCain-Feingold, banned the broadcast, cable or satellite transmission of “electioneering communications” paid for by corporations or labor unions from their general funds in the 30 days before a presidential primary and in the 60 days before the general elections.

Justice John Paul Stevens said, ''The court's ruling threatens to undermine the integrity of elected institutions around the nation.''

I'm not even American and that upsets me. I wish more people could quit watching reality TV and pay attention to the massive sellout of your country that has been going on. This is not a right vs left issue but a people vs the corporation issue. It is sad to think people died fighting to build a free country for the people only to later allow it to be sold to the highest bidder. Good luck.

It should upset everyone, at least every American that obviously have more at stake in this.

The Supreme Court ruled in 1886 to recognize corporations as individuals, granted rights under the Constitution of the United States, which led to their dominating the citizens.

100 years later, the 1945 FCC Fairness Doctrine was repealed, so that we were bombarded by lies, deceptions and outright propaganda without any regard for the truth.

Now, Citizens United, a strictly conservative attack group, wants the right-leaning Supreme Court to abolish the 1907 Tillman Act, in order for corporate America's huge coffers to influence our political landscape with even greater numbers of political attack ads - as if we don't have enough of that already!

After spending $1 Billion on the presidential campaign in 2008, a huge sum of money (remember all those robocalls at all hours of the night?), America stands on the precipice of stupidity once again, to open our airwaves with even more vicious political attacks through corporate America. And not just attack ads distorting the truth, but "documentaries", or the more appropriate "mockumentaries" made to attack one candidate.

America is already subjected to bought-and-paid for Congressmen, with Corporate Lobbyists and special interest groups flooding and influencing how Washington works. This is a full blown sell-out BY THE CONSERVATIVES.

Yet the "conservatives" are quiet - every one of their mouthpieces are siding with the corporations. And like a vast army of sheep, conservatives only get outraged when instructed to do so.

I suggest everyone that's upset about this change their facebook status/tweet/socially blare a simple message:
